    Imma let you finish, but the real winner here is Euron's horse. DIdn't you see the ornate headpiece that the horse was wearing? It was the most stunning work I saw all episode - I just couldn't stop staring... it really WAS that good!

    I think most (if not all) of the characters will wear black up to the series finale. Once you go black you'll never go back. But black becomes boring if overused, It's nice to see a pop of color even in the middles of winter, war and chaos.

      I have a feeling that they're slowly draining colour from the show so that we become starved of it during the winter, then at the end there'll be an explosion of colour that'll make us all go "Oooohhhh!" Sort of like Dorothy opening the door and seeing Oz for the first time.

    I absolutely love this series and the examples you give for possible inspirations behind the costumes, as well as similarities between characters and their growth. It's so interesting to see as someone who is a huge lover of costume design. It has definitely inspired me to pick designing my own concept arts for costumes back up again, thank you so much!

    I actually really like Bernadette's new look, but I do agree with you the show has to tone down the dark look a bit
    and I didn't notice the guy from the Iron bank was the same guy who plays Mycroft in Sherlock, I think this time they intentionally dressed him more like Mycroft.

    I actually think Cersei's hair makes no sense at all since it has been cut. Her hair has been wavy since the beginning of the show, and they were intense waves. Logically, her hair at the length it's in should be wavier, going into soft curls. If styled right, she would look a lot better, possibly younger, and more like a royal.

    • @Costume_CO
      @Costume_CO  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Persephone Hades Yes! I think when she was initially arrested and it was cut off by the Septas, I can understand that it would look ratty. But now it should have grown out.

      +Persephone Hades That's possible.

    • @pagesinked
      @pagesinked 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes! She may be keeping it short because in the books she often wished she was born a man so she could rule and have power. So it may be her way of showing that she can make herself queen and rule and that also goes with her more masculine looking dresses this season as well.

    • @carriel3054
      @carriel3054 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I thought it looked cute for a minute after she got out of bed with Jaime, when part was tucked behind her ear... more of a casual pixie, so I think it's the styling more than the actual wig. Anyone who combed their hair forward over their face would look goofy. Either way though - it's terrible.

    You know, as soon as I saw Cersei's handmaiden with the cropped hair, I instantly thought of you! I do actually think the women of the court are following her style on purpose. They always did before. I didn't realize, before this video, though, that we'd seen that actress before, a few seasons ago. Once you showed the picture, I remembered!

    • @Costume_CO

      I didn't know either! I actually had to look her up.

  • @songokuboy10
    @songokuboy10 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think the whole problem with Cersei's hair is that Cersei tries to reduce her femininity, there are many occasions where cersei mentions her desire to be a man, as she despises being a "weak" woman without power. It is more clear in the books, and alt shit X made a video about cersei where he sums up that cersei is basically a misogynistic woman. The cut hair symbolizes her masculinity and her desire to be as powerful as the ruling men

    • @Costume_CO

    When I saw her handmaiden with that hair I laughed out loud hahaha. Like, do you guys think they actually sat down and discussed that her hair had to change after Cersei blew up the Sept, or did she just figure that it was a good idea to do on her own LOL.

      +Darian Stokes Thanks Darian. Well, I think that Bernadette is staff, and what she is wearing is sort of like a uniform. And since Cersei is a control freak, ID assume she would make her staff dress this way. Personally, from a design point of view, I think it's stupid. Unless this was intended as a bit of humour.

    I love Daenerys' season 7 costumes!!! It makes her look very very powerful. I feel like it's much more practical than Cersei's costumes of season 7 yet they regain their regality and fiery fierceness. Also the change in the colours of Daenerys' costumes from white to charcoal greys to complete blacks alongwith red really does symbolize the fiery wrath of the Daenerys' Dragons burning people to a crisp because after the red hot fire has burnt everything, the bodies turn to a crisp black. It's completely fitting for a Dragon queen. I really think you should do a separate video on Daenerys' season 7 costumes separately covering each thing in detail along with symbolism. When she wears her house colours during her first meeting with Jon, you for to mention that red cape-like thing hanging from the dragon-chain clasp on her shoulder and falling on her back, one can see the entire red fabric manipulated to achieve a dragonscale look. You forgot to mention that.

    On the subject of Cercei's hair, I could not disagree more. The short hair makes her look bad ass and also speaks to how she is now taking up a traditionally male role, which she had always wanted for herself. I actually never liked the long blonde hair on Lena Heady. The actress, out of character, has such a edgy, rock n' roll look. The last thing she needs is to be made to look like a Barbie. I hope the pixie cut stays for the duration of the series.

    Sansa's ring reminds me so much of a bondage collar....especially since she's in black. Do you think there might be any meaning behind that? I mean, if you think about it, she's tied to her house, she's tied to the north, she's technically still tied to Tyrion by marriage, she's tied also to Littlefinger since he's got all those fighting men there...Just a thought there. :)

    Really loving this series on GoT costumes! And I totally agree that Cersei's wig is hideous. It's shocking to see the short wig contrasted with the way the actress looked in the long golden blonde wig with elaborate styles and braids. She could almost be a different person. It adds an extra layer of humor to Euron's swaggering "proposal" and statement that he wants to marry the most beautiful woman in the world. I realize the hair crew was in a tough spot - giving her a veil, wimple, headdress, etc (or a wig easily identified as such in-story) would prove that the Faith had conquered her with the Walk of Shame. And it's too soon for her hair to have grown out any more, I guess, though the timeline is a little wonky. But that is just a terrible look for her. Interesting note about the dressing gown or nightgown she wears in her chambers - it is the only clothing we've seen her wear in recent memory that doesn't conceal her neck. Since Maggy the Frog prophesied that the "valonqar" would strangle her after her children died and a more beautiful queen came to take her place, it's interesting that her neck is vulnerable in her chambers when she is alone with Jaime. Either the show is going full-on Jaime=valonqar, or it's a pretty nice easter egg for hardcore fans. Rarding Sansa's dresses - I'm actually not super impressed with them so far this season either. If they went to the trouble of designing multiple dresses, I feel like it would have been a better use of resources to make them more distinguishable from one another. I actually didn't hate the wolf gown from season 6. And I do get that they're dressing her as a no-nonsense Lady of Winterfell with ice in her veins who has no time for southron frivolities like elaborate wardrobes. But there's room for improvement. Likewise with her hair - it was better in episode 3, but I really didn't like the previous straight blowout with only a small braid pulled away from her face on each side (which was lifted from Cersei's style book). There are more important things than elaborate updos with winter arriving and all, but it's a very unflattering look on the actress IMO.

    • @Costume_CO
      @Costume_CO  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Kae Great comments! Thank you. Yes, it's the first time we've even seen Cersei in bed with Jaime...usually they're doing it on the floor or something. She lets her guard down with him, thinking that she is safe, but she's not.

    • @pagesinked
      @pagesinked 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Never thought about her covering her neck this season! I love the valonqar theory about Jaime, but I don't remember if they have actually mentioned that part of the prophecy on the show yet. Totally agree about Sansa's new outfits.
      Like the quotes said they are meant to show that after all she has been through that none of the things that mattered to her when she was younger do anymore. She doesn't need the beautiful gowns and elaborate hairstyles of the court she needs to look powerful and untouchable and not be vulnerable anymore.

    • @Costume_CO
      @Costume_CO  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +April Dawn The prophecy was told to young Cersei by Maggie the Frog.

      @pagesinked 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, yes that is what I meant haha. I watch some other GoT theory videos and Alt-Shift X did a video about Cersei and he uses the book sources and I think that when the show mentioned the prophecy they did not mention the valonqar part of the prophecy, just the parts about her children and the younger queen.

    Interesting that Clapton said that “she (Daenerys) can’t have a crown, she has not conquered yet” when it the books she does wear a crown that’s I recall she received form Quarth. And so do all of those who call themselves kings, even Robb and Balon who don’t claim all Seven Kingdoms. Only Mance Rayder I recall does not have one (and Jon isn’t a king yet). In the series even the Baratheon kings and Cersei do not wear crowns as frequently as they wear in the books I feel.
    It does make some sense form Clapton when you look at the overall symbolism of the show to keep crowns away form claimants. But for their individual story a crown would have been part of their character and the ways they are different shows their differences. Robb’s especially was my favorite.
    Additionally while the Game of Thrones looks are great, and I like how they aren’t just typical medieval like the books, often they don’t always show exactly how rich and important these characters are. Perhaps this is on purpose to keep the show more grounded (and the costume costs down maybe). The pilote episode that never fully has aired apparently had less wear on the outfits and they apparently didn’t look realistic. But The Song of Ice and Fire books are really much larger than life literally, Westeros is size of a continent not a England size kingdom the show implies. All the high lords are as important as kings and king of Seven kingdoms rather ought to be called an Emperor. So the outfits of the main characters in Game of Thrones series are often how I imagine the lesser nobles to dress actually and the main characters far more richer. But this would maybe make the main characters less appealing when they truly would dress like the 0.1% of wealth and status they truly are.
    And I don’t quite understand the looks that seem so similar to other ones like Sansa in this video. Seems like a bit of a wasted effort. If the outfit had been blue for example (which I would feel would fit Sansa’s arc) we would have been able to see it’s different dress and the show had had some much neened color. But maybe Clapton really wishes to keep the colors down yet can’t help herself but make many outfits and does not quite realize that it’s extremely difficult for us to see the details.

      Also when the Clapton quote was about Dany’s journey to red and black and she said that the characters take their time or die, whatever. That might speak of some frustration maybe. Perhaps she wanted to do more to someone’s wardrobe journey. Margaery (and perhaps Loras and Olenna) is who I feel might be the case. Clapton kept the Tyrells away form gold and green, their house colors, for the most part favoring teal with less bold color than gold. And the season Margaery died she was dressing in rags or subdued clothes so Clapton would not have been able to leave of with a costume high note (and Clapton was absent for most of season 6 anyway).

      Hey Sara, awesome analysis, btw. Thank you so much for commenting. While I love the costumes, Im not always on board with her decisions, as I have often stated. My least favourite is S7, largely for the decision to have nearly all characters in a variety of shades if greys and blacks. That, with the especially limited lighting this past season, made it hard to see the details.

      +cynthia van teylingen Yes, poor Sansa is a bit down, and then Bran had to bring up her wedding to Ramsey.

    Cersei explains the hair herself, when she gets out of bed and says "I'm queen now I can do what I want". She doesn't have anyone to impress and isn't playing by anyone else's rules anymore. In other words, she just doesn't care.

      Costume Cinematografico yes, short hair wigs usually look terrible. They could have made the same point by giving her some sort wrap or head covering maybe. But I suppose if she looked exactly like the evil queen from Snow White, people wild interpret that as too literal and cartoony.

      +Meghan Pesclovitch Yes, I'm not sure what the answer is. I thought about a head covering too, but I get your point. Although, have to say I love Regina's evil queen costumes from Once Upon a Time.

    The wigs have been a disappointment this season. I'm getting tired of the braid "crowns" that Dany has and now Sansa. I would like if Dany had more simple braids for the style of curls she has. All those braids look like ALOT of hair. I need to see her hair in a new style besides all those teired braids! I loved when he hair was looser like when she first conquered Mereen. I also dont like those two strands of hair in the front when most of Danys hair is pulled back, it bothers me. I'd rather have it all pulled back but i understand the need to frame her face. Sansa's wig looks dry and wispy. I honestly get confused if the women naturally have curly or straight hair. Everyone has the same waves for the most part which is really annoying.
    All costumes were nice this episode. I didnt notice at all that Sansa had a different dress. I also had a thought that what if Clapton is waiting to dress Dany in more red for season 8? She will need a kind of armour for the war so i would imagine she would have a true black and red armour. Or maybe its all just a tease, what if Dany dies or she doesn't want the throne anymore? She was on her way to wearing those colors but never will. Good work with the videos :)
