I was in my stand three years ago when I noticed something just on the edge of my vision creeping from bush to bush. Maybe a half hr later I had this intense feeling something was behind me and slowly turned to look and the biggest Florida panther I have ever saw was on the ground looking up at me. I couldn't remember if they climbed trees or not but I was about to find out I shot the ground at its feet and it ran away. Let me tell you that was the scariest trip back to my vehicle I've ever had. That cat was had snuck up on me and was either about to come get me or was waiting for me to come down. Either way I did not want to be Kitty food.
@lostallnerve Because their population in Florida is measured in the hundreds. If it came after me, I would have shot it, but scaring it off was the better option. Besides, I don't know that panther is something I would eat.
I live in a rural area with a lot of woods. I have spent quite a bit of time in the woods and never really saw much save for some animal encounters. The only big thing that really happened was at a state park. I was with some family and we were hopping along the rocks in the water. We were going along trying not to get wet when we happened on the most interesting thing I came across in the woods. There were two people doing the nasty. They saw us and ran. That was the only out of the place thing that ever happened to me in the woods.

Around here there are some dangerous normal animals but they are not the type to hunt you down. Usually you got to be more the aggressor. Then you have to watch out for hunters during hunting season. Generally it is fairly safe unless you fall or wound up lost which isn't really the woods fault.

I recommend it for anyone in the area, very scenic, or if you're not from near here, read up about it. Don't go at night.

This really gave me so many chills and memories.. 3 years ago I was hunting in North Louisiana by Alexandria in the middle of the wilderness and something was stalking me and I heard something very similar to that screech...made me drop my phone. I havnt been hunting ever since..

I literally live on the Freetown line. I can't believe this! I'm honestly 110% familiar with the forest and the extension of it to Copicut Rd. My Uncle committed suicide when I was 3 in Copicut. 85% of the roads and lanes in Freetown are named after my family. Demoranville, Chase.. so on. I've heard all the stories of the satanic rituals and haunted stories of the Freetown State forest. I can't believe this story! It's so crazy. We go off roading in the forest all the time. I spent most of my teens and early 20's in this forest. I never thought I'd hear it on here. Something I gotta add about this though is that there are people out there in the forest at all times of night. Especially between 11pm and 2am so idk why they say it's unlikely. It's where everyone goes 4 wheeling

After a couple days he returned the kid to his neighbourhood and his parents, who according to the kid neglected him, were so happy to see him but there was something that I didn't think about until the story had pointed it out and I can very clearly remember the shock I felt, you see when the psychiatrist faked the kids death, he had taken the child's student I.D I think it was, and planted it on a body that was found by the police in a dumpster, I had forgotten about it since it was brushed aside rather quickly and was treated like a small subject so it was rather forgettable but the story had pointed out at the very end asking who the body was that was mistaken the the kids which I hadn't thought about up until that moment, its one of my favourite stories despite only hearing it once I really want to find out the name of it
