In any company or organization, there will always be some that are not happy, complain, and decide to leave. That doesn't make the places themselves are bad--it's just that not everything is for everyone. We all also have our own perspectives through which we view the world. I hope NYT will do a follow-up article in which they present the views of those who have been with Shen Yun for a long time and have benefited as much, or more, as what they feel they have given. If NYT has the journalistic integrity that all fair and unbiased news sources should have, then they will certainly present the other side as well. In the meantime, I think the 3 Musketeers past videos, as you point out, already refute the article's claims. And anyone who has seen Shen Yun, or even knows of someone who has seen and loved Shen Yun, will not be swayed by the negative comments of a handful of disgruntled people. Please keep up the great work, stay focused, and don't let anything sidetrack you from the beauty and goodness you're spreading around the world! The show you guys put up is so smazing I have never seen anything like that! You completly changed my atitude to music, my mind was opened to feel music, only something very harmonious and spiritual and kind can have such strong effect.... I don't know if someone was unhappy at some point but like you said there have to be some proportions... we are still humans after all... I know some people who actualy take part in the school and the show and they are so kind and profesional and they love it!! The goodness you spread is so great I just hope many many more people will have a chance to see you!
I know a friend in the company's social group who responded in the group that he knew most of the people who were interviewed in the negative NYT article. And what's in there doesn't reflect the truth. He was sad because one of them was once a very close friend.

Does NY times want to see "Diverse" dancers on the Shenyun stage like Paris2024 opening ceremony? I am one of Shenyun audiences. I like to watch the pure Shenyun proformances on the stage. All famous classical dancing company have only well-trained healthy and beautiful dancers. Highly trained dancers don't have any exceed fat in their body at all. We call this "Professionalism".

My 16 year old son had his MCL, PCL and ACL surgery this summer!! He is walking w/o crutches and going to PT twice a week! The PT helps a lot so do not cancel your appointments!
In any company and work environment, there are disgruntled people. I’ve encountered many of them throughout my career and listened to their grievances. At times, I sympathized with them-we’re all human and have breaking points. Oftentimes, their concerns were well-founded. Yet, it’s the people who stay, continue working, and strive to make things better that deserve attention. They usually focus on the positive. It’s a different story if the mission isn’t relevant, but your mission is inspiring and needs to carry on!
I believe in Shen Yun. Every time I watch artists perform, I feel like my soul is being cleansed: there is no suffering, resentment,... Shen Yun has opened my worldview a lot, helping my work get better and better. Not only that, since knowing Shen Yun, I have understood what true traditional culture and the meaning of human life are? I appreciate what Shen Yun has done for our world. When epidemics, wars, natural disasters, and human disasters are constantly happening. Shen Yun has given us ultimate faith and hope. That is extremely valuable. It is something we need to cherish and protect. I think that the lies, slander, and distortions of the truth about Shen Yun are like a few dark clouds trying to hide the sun. But no matter what, from past to present, the sun always shines, and the truth is still the truth.
I feel sorry for the former dancers in the article and for The New York Times for publishing it. What they shared did not come from an objective perspective, nor did they consider others. This makes me think that it’s really hard to be a good person nowadays. When you strive to improve yourself every day, there are still people who criticize and slander you. The members of the Shen Yun Performing Arts are truly courageous and compassionate. Just read the article and so upset with NYTimes. NYT has lost its vibe as a long time and prestigous newspapers. Shenyun is doing so amazing to reset beautiful tradition art. Leave them alone to continue their mission!
It is so sad that a highly established company like Shen Yun is being attacked in such a low manner by NYT. First of all, you don't have to look far, look for the money and you find who is behind this. NYT is bowing for the CCP, therefore is not being reliable source of news and doesn't care for the FACTS. Secondly, Shen Yun is a high level performing arts that is to be compared with world top athletes. If you look into the life of an athlete, it is 100% about discipline and the right work attics. Without such discipline, they would never break world records. This is how I see what Shen Yun does, they perform at the world athlete type of a level, not like any ordinary dance company. That is also why they excel and people are so moved by what they do. This work attic is of course not suitable for everyone. Not everyone can become the top 1% in the world at their craft. But it is very sad that the previous workers, are joining in these attacks as it exposes even more how weak they are as human beings and are not fit for greatness. It is fine to be ordinary, but just don't go and complain about those who seek to become extraordinary. NYT is seeking the victim hood people and therefore their article is so poorly written and is almost like empty air to read. Clearly NYT is not seeking to become great at their craft either, but just succumbing to to bullies like the CCP! Shen Yun you are appreciated and are the best at what you do, it would be an honor for anyone to be part of your company!
WE know that Shen Yun artists and performers do practice a spiritual school. And WE know that engaging in a spiritual practice involves sacrifices as well as blessings 🌷WE have seen this in so many spiritual communities like some christians' confréries etc...thus, some things such as thé fact that thé mind state of a person and his physical health are interconnected- are things quite known and common in spiritual communities. What IS saddening IS that most of thé speech of thèse former Shen Yun members IS OUT OF CONTEXT....many things they spoke about simply Shouldn't bé adressed liké that. I believe that they simply didn't understand what they were doing or practiticing. And even in that case, they could have quitely quitted without badmouthing or stirring trouble 🙁
The motto of the NY Times is/was "All the News That's Fit to Print." Those of us who see how the NY Times pushes its views say, "All the News that Fits, We Print." Muckraking is a genuine term. They dig for issues and they find people willing to "dish the dirt." You guys are great. Stay strong. Stay beautiful.
When I read the article from the NYT, I was really surprised and saddened that they could report on Shen Yun in such a way. The first thing I can say is that looking at the demeanor and aura of the Shen Yun performers, they all exude positive energy. They are friendly and approachable. They train very hard, and I know it is very strenuous and difficult. I see the fatigue on their faces, but above all, they still respond with smiles that, to me, are very warm. Such things cannot be faked. You need to have a pure heart and a positive spirit to always maintain that state. In life, conflict and disagreement are inevitable; they are a given, but they are not everything. We cannot let those negative things overshadow the meaningful and great things. And as the three musketeers shared, Shen Yun has been established for nearly 20 years, and the NYT could only find 25 people who expressed dissatisfaction. This information speaks volumes; Shen Yun has truly done an excellent job. We should all learn from them. We should not become narrow-minded and shallow people. Thank you for the dedication of Shen Yun and the dancers. I wish you all the best.

Shenyun put what happened in China on the stage because their life are really being threatened. They need to show that to people to contribute to stop those things. If not going to that serious step, they will not do so.
When I watched Shen Yun, I noticed the recurring theme of good people being oppressed-whether by communists in modern times, by corrupt individuals in ancient days,but finally justice served… and now, a media jumped out and labeled themselves as “bad”, apart being pathetic, they could also be used into the stories as a different form of “bad guy” and I want to see the justice comes sooner, on the stage.
@Loxinary Thank you for replying. Mostly, you may be right, but I think they will not let people label themselves as bad so easily. About 1999, they also gave the ccp government enough time to know about them that they don't have any hostile and threat to the government, and they're just a group of people who use "truthfulness, compassion, tolerance" as principle to require themselves, but finally ccp still persecuted them even never stopped. I hope NYT can realize that the article is obviously irresponsible, and revocate or apologize as soon as possible.
Remember how the mainstream media attacked Yale Law School Professor Amy Chua for her Confucius-style parenting of her two young children? She raised two wonderful young ladies, who came forward to defend their mom for applying high standard and strict discipline to their upbringing. Like the U.S. Marine, Shen Yun’s training isn’t for everyone. If some people don’t like to be held against high standard and strict discipline, they should go ahead and enjoy the freedom elsewhere.

Thank you guys for speaking up, I'm glad you are treated well. I just have a question: does Shen Yun provide medical insurance for its dancers / employees? You said you were flied out and got surgery quickly, then rehab, which are expensive I assume. What type of insurance did you have through SY (your employer), if any? Did you have to pay high premium / copay out of pocket?
Being a dancer takes a lot of effort and determination! It's not for everyone. If some dancers left the group, probably they need to find other ways and start a new journey, instead of complaining.

Just read the article and so upset with NYTimes. NYT has lost its vibe as a long time and prestigous newspapers. Shenyun is doing so amazing to reset beautiful tradition art. Leave them alone to continue their mission!

It is so sad that a highly established company like Shen Yun is being attacked in such a low manner by NYT. First of all, you don't have to look far, look for the money and you find who is behind this. NYT is bowing for the CCP, therefore is not being reliable source of news and doesn't care for the FACTS. Secondly, Shen Yun is a high level performing arts that is to be compared with world top athletes. If you look into the life of an athlete, it is 100% about discipline and the right work attics. Without such discipline, they would never break world records. This is how I see what Shen Yun does, they perform at the world athlete type of a level, not like any ordinary dance company. That is also why they excel and people are so moved by what they do. This work attic is of course not suitable for everyone. Not everyone can become the top 1% in the world at their craft. But it is very sad that the previous workers, are joining in these attacks as it exposes even more how weak they are as human beings and are not fit for greatness. It is fine to be ordinary, but just don't go and complain about those who seek to become extraordinary. NYT is seeking the victim hood people and therefore their article is so poorly written and is almost like empty air to read. Clearly NYT is not seeking to become great at their craft either, but just succumbing to to bullies like the CCP! Shen Yun you are appreciated and are the best at what you do, it would be an honor for anyone to be part of your company!
WE know that Shen Yun artists and performers do practice a spiritual school. And WE know that engaging in a spiritual practice involves sacrifices as well as blessings 🌷WE have seen this in so many spiritual communities like some christians' confréries etc...thus, some things such as thé fact that thé mind state of a person and his physical health are interconnected- are things quite known and common in spiritual communities. What IS saddening IS that most of thé speech of thèse former Shen Yun members IS OUT OF CONTEXT....many things they spoke about simply Shouldn't bé adressed liké that. I believe that they simply didn't understand what they were doing or practiticing.
And even in that case, they could have quitely quitted without badmouthing or stirring trouble 🙁
The motto of the NY Times is/was "All the News That's Fit to Print." Those of us who see how the NY Times pushes its views say, "All the News that Fits, We Print." Muckraking is a genuine term. They dig for issues and they find people willing to "dish the dirt." You guys are great. Stay strong. Stay beautiful.

When I read the article from the NYT, I was really surprised and saddened that they could report on Shen Yun in such a way. The first thing I can say is that looking at the demeanor and aura of the Shen Yun performers, they all exude positive energy. They are friendly and approachable. They train very hard, and I know it is very strenuous and difficult. I see the fatigue on their faces, but above all, they still respond with smiles that, to me, are very warm. Such things cannot be faked. You need to have a pure heart and a positive spirit to always maintain that state.
In life, conflict and disagreement are inevitable; they are a given, but they are not everything. We cannot let those negative things overshadow the meaningful and great things. And as the three musketeers shared, Shen Yun has been established for nearly 20 years, and the NYT could only find 25 people who expressed dissatisfaction. This information speaks volumes; Shen Yun has truly done an excellent job. We should all learn from them. We should not become narrow-minded and shallow people.

Shenyun put what happened in China on the stage because their life are really being threatened. They need to show that to people to contribute to stop those things. If not going to that serious step, they will not do so.
When I watched Shen Yun, I noticed the recurring theme of good people being oppressed-whether by communists in modern times, by corrupt individuals in ancient days,but finally justice served… and now, a media jumped out and labeled themselves as “bad”, apart being pathetic, they could also be used into the stories as a different form of “bad guy” and I want to see the justice comes sooner, on the stage.
I see… but NYT thinks they are powerful and can lie with no cost. That’s not the case.
@Loxinary Thank you for replying. Mostly, you may be right, but I think they will not let people label themselves as bad so easily. About 1999, they also gave the ccp government enough time to know about them that they don't have any hostile and threat to the government, and they're just a group of people who use "truthfulness, compassion, tolerance" as principle to require themselves, but finally ccp still persecuted them even never stopped. I hope NYT can realize that the article is obviously irresponsible, and revocate or apologize as soon as possible.

Remember how the mainstream media attacked Yale Law School Professor Amy Chua for her Confucius-style parenting of her two young children? She raised two wonderful young ladies, who came forward to defend their mom for applying high standard and strict discipline to their upbringing. Like the U.S. Marine, Shen Yun’s training isn’t for everyone. If some people don’t like to be held against high standard and strict discipline, they should go ahead and enjoy the freedom elsewhere.

Thank you guys for speaking up, I'm glad you are treated well. I just have a question: does Shen Yun provide medical insurance for its dancers / employees? You said you were flied out and got surgery quickly, then rehab, which are expensive I assume. What type of insurance did you have through SY (your employer), if any? Did you have to pay high premium / copay out of pocket?
Being a dancer takes a lot of effort and determination! It's not for everyone. If some dancers left the group, probably they need to find other ways and start a new journey, instead of complaining.
