Hi Ben, I got into pole fishing a few years ago and bought a 401, to be fair I can’t fault it and would recommend anyone just starting to fish with a pole to look at one at their local tackle shop. I would say to people always go and hold the poles your looking at first as different poles will suit different people.
nice to see the differences in sag and lightness ,i have poles i fish with and they are ok ,but to be honest i do not like fishing poles as they are uncomfortable to fish with i used to kid myself they were the bees knees ,but using light rods is far more enjoyable ,but if you match fish you need poles to compete .and all the back breaking gear you have to drag to your peg ,,,,now i fish the pin and 15 ft rods for river fish ,its wonderful takes you back to being a kid ,well thanks for the info and good luck with not getting this virus and tight lines when ever that comes hopefully about august time cheers,

Great video, but it contradicts what pretty much every shop told me when I was purchasing a pole a couple of months ago. I phoned for best prices for the 501 and 601, but was told to avoid the 601 as the extra cost is not worth it. It's two shalla kits for £450 RRP extra. Two shops didn't in fact stock the 601 as they don't sell very well. They will order one in if you really want one. The 501 is their best seller, even Andy May uses one for his coaching and windy fishing.
Like I say bud poles are personal choice you need to pick them up. 501 is the most popular in the range but I could defiantly feel the difference when picking them up side buy side & at 16m
the 501 and 601 are on different mandrels, so the difference isn't just "two shalla kits extra for £450". Shops will always try and sell you what they have in stock rather than ordering in. If I had a choice of 501 or 601, I'd go for the 601 as it has the same mandrel as the higher range poles (so if upgraded in future your 601 would be spares) and the same as the C2 carp pole which is undoubtedly better than the C1; so my backup pole would be a better mandrel choice then. (for context, I have 2 x 901's and a C2 backup carp pole)
just wondering ben what would you say the best pole is round the £500 mark.plus if they have the 10 metre extension for the preston edge monster,what does it feel like and how much sag is there at 10 metres please

Looking to purchase a pole 14.5m is probably as far as I’d go. I was looking at Preston innovations pro type x300 but map 301 or 401 has caught my eye, what do you reckon? I want be able to catch carp heavy end of the scale on commercial fishery, but also be able just pull out the normal bream, perch etc
Would've been good to see what you think of the 8.5 map power margin .. i just got it and it seems nice to me, got 3 topkits too.. but you've seen and held a lot of poles so would know better

Love MAP poles, knowing if you upgrade the tip kits will interchange is a great thing.

I did the same many moons ago with a map pole and think I've only ventured from the map brand once in 20 years.

The 601 is certainly a better pole than the 501 made on a different mandrel its more responsive stiffer straighter just a more complete pole

You've forgotten to mention that the M10 and C1 interchanges with the 401/501 and the M20 and C2 interchange from the 601 to the 901.

401 is better at length but if your a silvers guy with occasional carp dont over look the sensas nanoflex range

Both similar in quality use etc it really comes down to how they feel for you and if the package is right for your fishing
What's your opinion on the MAP TKS 1001 Margin pole, as a margin pole instead of buying it to interchange with the 1001 3G?
Great pole very strong dont discount the m1 margin cheaper but very strong
How does the 401 3g compare to the mtx 3? Currently choosing between the two but not sure how the weight and stiffness compare between the two.

Any of those are great comes down to how you find them to sit with & which package is right for you. if it was my money mtx4

Looking at a map801 or the xs 70 pole, which is better in your opinion, cheers
both are fantastic I would have either it comes down to you holding both and what kits fit your fishing the most.

not too sure bud but on par with everything else at this price range a little stiffer than most as well
