Yes, we get what you were saying about the Caribbean boys creating their own genre. That's the part that's false. Herc, Bambaata, and Flash did not create Hip Hop. They are considered Godfathers and much respect to them. They were great DJs, but there were DJs less popular to the masses that were also just as Big in the NYC area at the time, like Super Mario. Who also played breakbeats for the dancers. These beats came from disco records and funk records that were made by other Black American artists like James Brown. Herc said himself that he didn't play records from the islands because everyone would stop dancing. Manu track was heavily sampled throughout Hip hop and r&b but that was later on years after its creation. That particular record was released in 1972, which would not have made major waves in America's underground scene until years later. I'm sorry, but there are documentaries that cover this with ppl who were there, and they are well known like coke La Rock. They are debunking all these West Indian myths about the start and creation of Hip hop. 8/11/73 is reserved for the commercial anniversary of Hip Hop, but the 5 elements were created well before then by Native Black Americans.
