Is the NDIS costing Australians too much?

  • Developing Australians Communities Co-founder River Night has weighed in on whether or not the National Disability Insurance Scheme [NDIS] is costing Australians too much.
    The cost of the NDIS will reach almost $100 billion within a decade.
    Mr Night argued that the cost spent on NDIS is what happens when you’ve got a broken system.
    “This is what it costs when you’ve got a mental health system that is broken after 30 years working in the sector myself states don’t talk to each other, departments don’t talk to each other our system is broken,” Mr Night said.
    “So rather than me talking yes is it costing too much, this is what it costs when we don’t have our act together.
    “If we don’t get our act together it's going to cost a hell of a lot more.”

    Needs to be used by the person and not taken advantage of by the workes etc. They need to stop funding wars offshore first of all. Much money is wasted like the voice''. Albo should be made to pay it back.

    I don't understand how everyone is suddenly severely autistic now - especially the late diagnosed. How can you have a severe developmental disability that suddenly appears in adulthood? It astounds me how so many of these late diagnosed have partners, kids and were verbal before diagnosis. Meanwhile people with autism diagnosed before NDIS can't get any help. As for the overdiagnosis of kids, how about we take away devices and start spending quality time with our kids? I was diagnosed with autism in childhood and again in adulthood. I'll never have a partner or kids. I struggle to look after myself. I can't 'mask'. I need OT but I cannot afford it and I'm not eligible for NDIS.

    It’s expensive because it’s corrupt, for $1000 the NDIS installed a $40 wheelchair threshold ramp (to get over a sliding door rail) the installation included laying the rubber mat on the floor and kicking it to make sure it was ok ! To change a tap to include a hose to shower $1500, a $350 (retail) wheelchair $5000

    This is equivalent to the robodebt fiasco. From a perspective of taxpayers and NDIS recipients. Basically taxpayers support it, but don't get why it's corrupt. And want that corrected by governments.

  • @kdegraa

    The NDIS duplicated then crowded out existing providers many of whom were voluntary. The NDIS then encouraged people to seek disabled classification & encouraged a cohort of for profit entrepreneurs to take advantage of the rivers of cash flowing out of this service.
    The NDIS is a misnomer in that Insurance is part of it. Insurance normally is about paying premiums in return for coverage. The premiums are invested to pay for the outgoings. The NDIS is not insurance, it’s just a payment scheme funded by taxes, debt and inflation.

    sadly the best way to spend money more effectively is not give it to the NDIS. A just of the boat sick role person who has got themselves obese can get themselves 5 or 10 times the funding of a elder who has toiled their whole life. i would rather fund aged care for the frail aged then servants for the lazy.

    I'm a DSW and I have a client who has schizophrenia caused by their own substance abuse. All they ever want to do is get driven 120km round trips to by a McDonald's or KFC meal. This has been going on for 3 years, the plan reviews aren't working and the whole system is broken from Bill Shorten down.

    • @Jasonsadventures
      @Jasonsadventures 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would have expected someone in the field to know schizophrenia is (like autism) entirely genetic. And (like autism) diagnosable via physical methods such as eye scans and brain activity in early life. The drug use is _because_ of the condition. You have it inside out.

    • @grumblesmudie3141
      @grumblesmudie3141 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Jasonsadventures then you should also know that drug abuse can also cuase schizophrenia.

    • @Jasonsadventures
      @Jasonsadventures 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@grumblesmudie3141 It might cause something that looks like it or has been diagnosed as it. But it's not schizophrenia. It's much more likely it was a coping mechanism. I'm not a Schizophrenic expert since it's literally the exact opposite of autism with neurotypicals in the middle but it's still genetic like both other subtypes of the brain.

    It is a problem that is known worldswide. In Sweden is the health system extremely missused. People who can work choose to be sick because it is easier and more beneficial. I hope it will stop. People should work. Even pregnant woman. Nowadays even pregnancy is treated like a sickness. Woman get benefits for her children from childfree women and men who are working for them. Tragedy.
