King's Batman got me to legitimately tear up in the first issue, when Batman asked Alfred that one question while on the plane. That moment was just really touching.
Great review. I want so many of the Rebirth Books, just been buying Omni's instead and they take up more money than I've got available so none left for Rebirth Books. I do have Justice League Rebirth Vol One and I'm enjoying that though some say it's not good, I like it and that's all that matters. Thx again for the review and as soon as I can I will be buying most of the Rebirth as long as Instocktrades has them in stock. Have a great day.
Do you have the New Teen Titans Omnibus vol 1-3 by Wolfman and Perez? I want to get those old classic 80s comics..the new print because I hope they improve some of the mistakes in the first run.
Hello and thanks for the recommendations...I watched your marvel video as well. You said you respond to comments, so I'm throwing this out there for some help. I am a middle school teacher and newer comic reader. I teach 7th grade English and REALLY want to put together a unit for my kiddos using comics. I am putting together a list of trades to get. We will be examining what it means to be a hero, so I am looking for any and all types of heroes with varied and complex story arcs. I want to have a wide variety of heroes and stories and they will get to pick 3 to read and compare. We will of course examine the artwork and storytelling and use some of the concepts from the Scott McCloud Understanding Comics book to do so. So far, I've got Ms. Marvel, Fraction Hawkeye (I'm pretty sure they could read the first trade of that one), Batman: I Am Gotham, Spider-Gwen, Runaways. Someone recommended Planet Hulk, but I have been unable to find it. Vader was also recommended, but I'm unsure if it would fit with the hero analysis. Someone also recommended Powerless, but can't find it either. I just thought I would throw this out there in case you have any suggestions! Thank you :)
And of course, I am open to really expanding the concept of hero...not just superheroes. I have the March Trilogy for example and I'm even considering Plain Janes...maybe their attempt to liven their town through art could be considered heroic in some way? Might be a stretch, but just looking for variety.
Hi Laura, I'm more than happy to try and help you! I have access to a wide variety of friends who are teachers that know comic books and I will get their opinions ASAP! Off the top of my head, DC's Supersons and Marvel's Moon G irl and Devil Dinosaur are all ages books that are a blast! I will get back to you with more recommendations soon!
Ok, Laura, the suggestions are coming in fast and furious: The Unstoppable Wasp by Marvel, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl by Marvel, Gotham Academy by DC, Lumber janes by Boom, Miles Morales Spiderman, Superman by Tomasi, DC, Usagi Yojimbo and Bone. Nit me up with any questions you might have!
Also the most appealing book looked like the Grayson Omnibus, I wish I would have known about Mikel Jannen doing it's art before spending my Amazon gift cards. Can't buy any more expensive books like Omnibus ect for a month or two. Any more info about Grayson Omnibus? Is there a lot of action or any new characters created for the book?
Omnidog! Please read Rex Mundi. Highly recommended. Also, if you can get a hand on The Lords of Misrule (Dan Abnett, et al) please read it. Very intense. It changed me. Possibly the best comic I have read. It shows the power of comics and what a good story can do. Its a mix of Stephen King (at his best) and Kafka, has a deep sense of foreboding and is very disturbing.
Have you considered making a video about the worst of 2017? You know some think like worse story, worse art or stories that promised and in the end disappointed. Thanks for your fantastic recommendations....my Christmas list has grown :)
I've been subscribe to you for a while, but I don't think I watch your vids. I rather enjoyed this one. Thanks for a superb review of your faves. ( I like that shirt, btw, would you mind telling me what brand it is? )
I stopped collecting comics about 8 years ago: who's the regular artist for series collected in the SUPERMAN REBIRTH DELUXE HC? Or are those issues just part of a limited series?
I'm actually one of those people who is not that huge fan of Tom King. I really Iiked his Vision but didn't love it like everyone else. His Batman i liked I am Gotham story but i got bored reading i am suicide. I tried to get back on his Batman with The War of Jokes and Riddles because of the huge thing that happened in issue 24. I got the answer to the issue 24 but im officialy done with his Batman.
Hey OmniPussy ... This review is disturbing on so many levels ... you have "BURNED THROUGH" a lot of things in your day, we all know that ... Tom King called he said he wants his book back but you can keep the shirt.
King's Batman got me to legitimately tear up in the first issue, when Batman asked Alfred that one question while on the plane. That moment was just really touching.
As always, another great review!
One of these years I’ll finally get caught up with you and the Omnibros videos.
But yours is the best to watch!😊

I just grabbed, Grayson! Really looking forward to jumping into that!
Big love Omnidog!
Nice Job Jess, As always.. and i agree on all of these, besides i haven't read Clean Room or Grayson.
I'm here to validate that yes, I am a Harley fan thanks to you! Love the character!
Woof Woof Woof!
Translation: Keep up the good work Jess!
Thank you Jacob!
Got to read alot of the material that you showed in the video this year also so I can do nothing but agree on some great comics you´ve got there ^^
Alright! Thanks Joakim!
Thanks for the video...really enjoyed it Jess :) - from an Omnikitten
Thank you, Omnikitten!
The reason i didn't read Supersons is because Damian is in it.
But after hearing your thoughts on it, i might give it a chance and read it.
Great video matey and great picks, clean room is in comixology sale i almost grabbed it.
grab it, dude, it's awesome!

I love Clean Room. I agree that it’s Gail Simone’s best work. I got to meet her at NYCC and she signed my copy.

*hit me up, lol
My favourites from DC this year were:
1.Batman
2.Detective Comics
3.The Flash
4.Green Lanterns
5.Superman
Who were the villains of the Superman deluxe book?
Also the most appealing book looked like the Grayson Omnibus, I wish I would have known about Mikel Jannen doing it's art before spending my Amazon gift cards. Omnidog! How come you don't review Alan Moore comics or books by Matt Wagner or Neil Gaiman? Can you make some videos on them! Pretty please!!!
I feel like those writers are so well known that they have tons of YT videos on them already...
Agreed. But I would still like to hear your opinions. Especially about Matt Wagner's Grendel. Or how about an Alan Moore video only?
sure, I'll consider that!

I've heard many things about Tom King's Batman (mostly negative), but you can sell me anything!
Negative things about Tom King?! Good heavens. I really love his work on this book.
They just say Vision YES, Batman NO. Might gve it a shot tho...
snakemtt Tom King's Batman is absolutely amazing in my opinion, I really didn't understand why people don't like it.
Tom King's Batman is better than Snyder's, in my opinion. And I loved Snyder's run, at least all the way through Zero Year.
Jess I don't know if you've read Tomasi and Gleason's Batman and Robin but I'd love to hear your thoughts on that series!
This is so awesomeee!!!
Thank you!!!
I've been subscribe to you for a while, but I don't think I watch your vids. I rather enjoyed this one. Thanks for a superb review of your faves. ( I like that shirt, btw, would you mind telling me what brand it is? )
Thank you for watching! It's an Orvis shirt.
I haven't heard many people say anything about The Darkseid War Omnibus. Was it not good?
it was great! A fantastic story, but it's material is a few years old so I didn't review it
New subscriber...looking to get an older DC Omnibus. What do you recommend? I love all my DC heroes. Was thinking the JLA Bronze Age Vol 1 Omnibus.
that would be a good place to start! Also consider the JSA omni's by Geoff Johns.
I stopped collecting comics about 8 years ago: who's the regular artist for series collected in the SUPERMAN REBIRTH DELUXE HC? Or are those issues just part of a limited series?
Patrick Gleason is the main artist, although the Deluxe has a few different artists contributing. It's part of an ongoing series.
The Grayson omnibus looks interesting. Can it be read as a standalone book or should other material be read first? As always great video.
thanks! Grayson can be read as standalone, you can wiki his backstory, it's fairly simple.
Does it matter if you read Batman first or Detective Comics? I'll probably get both but I don't want one to ruin the other.
I'm actually one of those people who is not that huge fan of Tom King.
I really Iiked his Vision but didn't love it like everyone else.

If I send you some of my comics, will you review it?
So what about swamp thing? Is it worth it?
which Swamp thing? Which writer are you talking about?
Omnidog's Vault bronze age omnibus. ;)
ah ok! Yes, it's easy to read with legendary art!
