Pendon is a wonderful place. I last visited, decades ago, with a friend. It was so long ago that we met and talked to Roye England, who tried to recruit us as model makers! No way that we could live up to the standards required, so we politely declined his very kind offer. A very special memory and one day I hope to visit again.
Thank you for sharing your story, we always have room for another model maker 😉. We really hope you can visit us again one day, so much will have been added since your last visit.
The level of realism is unsurpassed. This museum layout is the most inspiring model railroad and 'Time machine' ever build. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully one day I can visit !
Filip, your very positive comments are gratefully received by the team at Pendon. The ambition of all at the Museum is to try to recreate as accurately as possible views of a time gone by for our viewers and visitors to enjoy and share. We really hope to welcome you in person to the Museum one day.
Thank you for visiting us and for your great review. We are so pleased you enjoyed the museum and video. Please do subscribe to our Channel and enjoy seeing other trains in close up detail.
I never get tired of seeing the beauty, ingenuity and uniqueness of Pendon. In my mind, it is a living place that many who return time and again to see it surely would love to shrink down to scale and live within! Thank you for presenting a "point of view" perspective of it. It would be amazing to see something like that along the lanes of the villages, between the beautiful houses and gardens.
Many thanks for watching our videos and for your very kind comments. As you say, it is a magical place to explore and so many returning visitors discover something different each time they visit. A great idea regarding a video tour around the buildings and landscape, the modelling is exquisite close up, we have added your request to our future productions list. To stay up to date with new additions, news and some hidden gems, simply sign up here: pendonmuseum.com/youtube
I know it's not necessarily the right area but I feel this could be overdubbed with the theme of Last of the Summer Wine or Dvorjak's largo movement from Symphony no9. This just feels so beautifully bucolic and reminiscent of a simpler time.
Thank you @OllieTattersall for your comments and suggestion, maybe when we produce another Drivers view we can incorporate some extra effects. thank you for watching.
We are really pleased you enjoyed it. Yes, we have been busy in the background producing more videos to share with our followers. Not long to wait before we release the next one.
Many thanks for your comment, we are really pleased you enjoyed the video. Many more to come in the future, which we hope you will find equally as interesting. Pendon is superb as always. Looking forward to another visit after this pandemic is over. A Driver's Eye journey on the Bristol / South Wales line would be a great complement to this video. A video of the 100 wagon coal train, my favourite, would also be most welcome.
David. Many thanks for your very positive review. We will add your ideas for future videos to our list and really look forward to welcoming you back to the Museum in the very near future.
Fantastic video! Would love to see more videos like this, especially with different trains passing through on the other line! Can’t wait to be able to visit Pendon again when you reopen
Joe, many thanks for your very positive review, we are really pleased you enjoyed the video. Thank you also for your ideas for future videos. We look forward to welcoming you back to the museum very soon.
Marvelous. Always an inspiration since I came to know it through “paper” means. Thanks for so much care put in it and for sharing with us modelers. Cheers from Spain!
Thank you for your kind comment. We are so pleased you like Pendon and all it has to share. If you would like further info on our virtual meetings and workshops or access to exclusive materials, do visit us here: pendonmuseum.com/youtube

OK, wow. I had a go at one of these drivers eye videos years ago and I've seen others attempt the same thing but that was fantastic. The all round atmosphere and complete attention to detail, even where its not visible to the public is astounding. Would love to see more like this please.
James, many thanks for your positive comments, we are so pleased that viewers old and new have enjoyed their non-stop journey through The Vale. More videos in the pipeline for you. Stay subscribed!
That track work is really SMOOTH. A very high-quality railroad in all respects. I'd love to see it in person. From a video perspective, I think a slight boost in saturation and contrast would make it even better but I don't know how you shot it.
Many thanks for your kind comment and suggestion Paul. This was an early video in our series and quite special as it offers another unique view of The Vale. We are planning even more this year, so please stay tuned. If you would like to see some more of our hidden gems, just click here: pendonmuseum.com/youtube
This cab view allows us to see the amazing details of the trackwork and lineside. Perhaps one day you could try a driver's eye view from a cab, I think this should be possible as things get smaller. Maybe you could then broadcast live videos on TH-cam! Great for those who live a little too far away to visit you.
Many thanks for watching John and for your comments. We are considering a slightly different view (as you suggest) for a future video. A great idea re the live stream event, as you say for our many online visitors who cannot come to the museum, it would be great. Thanks again and if you would like regular updates, please sign up here: pendonmuseum.com/youtube
Hi Pendon. Newish to TH-cam, and just found you. I first visited in 73, and had the great pleasure to meet Roye England in person on several occasions. Sadly lost touch over the years, but memories still vivid (thankfully). Great to find other visitors recordings and see the progress made. Still hugely inspiring. Recently retired so hope to visit once more in the not too distant. Is the Potentate still riding the rails? And Zippy still dozing?
Hi Robert. Many thanks for posting your comment. Great to know that you actually met Roye England. We all have so much to enjoy thanks to his inspiration, creativity and hard work. You will be most welcome back at Pendon and we really hope to see you before too long. You will be pleased to know that Potentate is still travelling and that Zippy remains unwell, so we don’t disturb him…. See you soon.
Dan and Kevin. Thank you for your thoughts. As mentioned, it is a very impressive and true to scale layout. It is actually built to EM gauge (18.2mm). We hope that helps and you are enjoying our videos.
Yes, you are correct. The driving cab view is from the cab of an auto coach which would have been propelled by by a 14XX loco. We hope you enjoyed the journey....
Have the greatest respect for all of you at Pendon. Out of all the videos you have on this channel, which are absolutely awe inspiring, do feel this one doesn’t do you justice at all and certainly not as a headline video. Personally, I’d remove it, it’s not in the same league as your other offerings at all, with regards to film quality, sound and usual narrative content. With all the ceiling lighting in clear view, operator crossing in the background, back wall apex and viewing glass panels in the shots, it begins to look like the thousand upon thousand of other exhibition videos out there or cab views. It’s fine but, doesn’t make me yearn to be there, like your other videos.
Andy, many thanks for your honest review. You are correct that it is not the same quality as other videos focused on a particular train or area of the Pendon Diorama, however this unique video was designed to show how the Diorama looks from the driver's viewpoint and to give viewers the opportunity to experience from ground level, the amazing size and detail of the layout as it is within the 'living' museum. We have some evolving ideas on an enhanced version, so please do keep watching and thank you again for your review.
@@PendonMuseumVideos thanks for getting back. Really didn’t want to come over in a negative way, as what you do and have done, is truly awesome. Rather my point being, as a possible future visitor, it didn’t really sell it to me, as all your other videos do and the vistas really stand out from all other content on you tube because of the sheer detail and magnitude, effort and may I add narration/history. This one, that comes up on your channel, as the main focus one to click on, just doesn’t show off all that is totally breathtaking and unique about Pendon. Yes, am sure such a small camera can/may hinder quality but, it was far more than that. Do get the urge to do a drivers perspective but, if I’d seen this first, may never have clicked on another, being my thought. Keep up the terrific work and let’s hope I can get down soon. ❤️
Many thanks again Andy. We appreciate your views and your positive comments, they help our Museum team better understand how we can add even more enjoyment for our online and in-house visitors. We will try rotating our highlighted video regularly, offering something new to our regular and new viewers. Stay tuned…

Thank you again for your observation, @railwaymechanicalengineer4587 . Another of our much viewed and enjoyed videos. We hope you too enjoyed the visual experience of seeing the Vale from the drivers cab.
Many thanks for your suggestion @saltspring Railway We are always looking at ways to further improve our videos and when we produce our next ‘from the train’ episode will have your suggestion in mind. Many thanks for watching.
A visit in 2010, was a history in its self, could have stayed there all day.
Thank you @jonethomas3892, your endorsement of our museum is much appreciated. We hope to see you again in the near future.

Superb! My wife and I visited 10 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice to see the engine driver’s view.
Thank you for watching and for visiting. Maybe we will see you again in the future. In the meantime do please keep watching.
You can see how good the track, points, ballasting, line side fencing etc are. Really something to appreciate.

And no giants in the video. Excellent.

James, try again now. A polaroid cube camera on a flatbed with a small bit of foam rubber under it does the job well.
Nice cab-ride.
Was hoping to see the hidden storage area as well.

How many trains an hour can you expect to see passing through Dartmoor or the Vale Scene?
Thank you for your question. On a normal running day you can expect to see around 20 train movements an hour through the scenes.
Is it oo gauge or o looks massive layout
I'm pretty sure it's OO. Impressive though, whatever the scale.
Dan and Kevin. Thank you for your thoughts. As mentioned, it is a very impressive and true to scale layout. It is actually built to EM gauge (18.2mm). We hope that helps and you are enjoying our videos.

Obviously the loco does not have a coreless motor ! And sounds as if it is in desperate need of some decent 12v DC motor lubricant !!!!
