- Test, review cordless jigsaw PARKSIDE PSTDA 20-Li B3 - What is the reality?
This PARKSIDE cordless jigsaw is housed in the classic case we've come to expect from Parkside, and the material matches the price. I guess only time will tell how much the case will really hold.
What we really like about Parkside's case is the ability to store the manual in the top of the case. You just pull the manual out when you need it, not that it's lying around under the saw or still stuck. This could be an inspiration to other manufacturers who haven't gotten this simple feature yet. The manual itself is detailed, well-done and we appreciate the easy-to-follow drawings always on the first and last page in the manual tabs.
The case has one more thoughtful feature, namely that you can put not only the Acu jigsaw with e.g. a 4Ah battery fitted, but also a spare 2Ah battery in the case. However, you have to buy these. In our case it was also not a set with battery and charger. The spare 4Ah battery will no longer fit in the boot. However, you shouldn't be sorry about that, because the 4Ah battery does have a longer life, but at the cost of the higher weight of the whole set. For this reason, it is better to get 2Ah batteries right away, which will have a lower endurance, but will make working with the jigsaw less tiring. Don't worry, a straight saw with a 2Ah battery marked PAP 20 B1 will last quite a long time.
The batteries are also compatible with all tools of the "PARKSIDE X 20 V Team" series and the charging time from full discharge is approx. 30 minutes when using the charger marked PLG 20 C3. The state of charge is indicated by a light on the side of the battery pack, which when pressed will display red, orange or green.
The jigsaw without battery weighs approx. 1.7 kg. If used with a 2Ah battery, expect to carry an additional 440g.
The overall ergonomics, manoeuvrability and build quality of the jigsaw is fine. We have a minor reservation about the workmanship of the plastic guide adapter and the plastic cover against chipping. Both are practical, but quite fragile and the chip guard in particular is likely to damage the saw blade before long.
As far as the saw blades are concerned, however, they are of good quality and do an honest job. In the package you get two HCS wood saw blades and one HSS metal saw blade. As far as the clamping of these saw blades into the jig saw is concerned, the manufacturer certainly deserves praise here. The clamping system is simple, fast and practical, including their "popping out" during replacement.
The saw stroke reaches 20mm and the maximum depth of cut varies depending on the material to be cut. The included wood saw blade allows a maximum depth of cut of 60mm, which is lower than the manufacturer's stated 80mm. The manufacturer recommends a maximum of 12mm for aluminium and 5mm for steel.
As well as a max speed of up to 2700 rpm, the saw also allows the pendulum stroke to be adjusted. This can be switched off completely or gradually adjusted from smallest to medium to largest.
The LED backlight is also a nice feature, which reacts instantly when the straight-edge cordless saw is switched on.
As an accessory, you will also find a transition piece for a vacuum cleaner in the package, and it is the vacuum cleaner that is more than a necessary accessory when using the jigsaw indoors.
The included longitudinal guide is handy, but its clearance in the clamping mechanism of the jigsaw before tightening it could definitely be less. After tightening the guide with both clamping screws, the saw will allow you to cut lengthwise with a maximum distance of about 14cm.
The saw also allows you to adjust the mitre cut to 22.5° and 45° to the left or 15°, 30° and 45° to the right. However, when the mitre is set to 45° on the left, the guide is very difficult to retract.
For locking, the supplied Allen key, which is conveniently located on the side of the jigsaw, must be used.
The overall quality and speed of the cut is good.
It's also important to note that Parkside offers a superior 3-year warranty on its tools, and that's certainly not something every manufacturer can boast.
