Great demo. Thank you. You probably already knew this but I thought I would mention it for those who did not think of it. Dry silicone is one of the best lubricants for lubricating the deck for keeping fine sawdust from gumming up the sliding of the head stock, tool rest and tail stock. Oil and grease will collect that fine stuff and make it hard to have smooth movement.
Picking my 2014 up from Home Depot later today along with the 46 inch 9 drawer tool chest that I will be mounting it to and I can’t wait even though I am down sizing from a Grizzly G07066 but need the space back in the shop. Thanks for the great review
I finally ordered my 2014. Home Depot is the only one that I could find that would ship it to Hawaii. But free shipping to the store is a good deal. It is supposed to be there on November 7th. My fingers are crossed. They wouldn't ship the stand but I don't want it any way. I'm going to bolt it to a rolling work bench and turn outside in the hawaiian sunshine. Now I'm going to watch more of your videos on it.
@TheMessuStudio, the had a special show price at the symposium in Louisville so I could not resist. It is coming Wed. Good Bye Laguna 1216 (when I find a buyer!)
Very nice Billy.. I look forward to a review after you have turned a few things because I would love an upgrade for myself. Take care and stay safe and most of all Happy Turing. David
I'm pretty sure the only thing I ever read the instructions on was my daughter's car seat, and that was almost 16 years ago ! Boy... that Kim can talk can't She! Happy New Lathe Billy, it looks Awesome!
Hi Billy, You sounded as excited as I was when I had my big lathe delivered. Enjoy it Billy. I can only imagine the person who has given a thumbs down is jealous. LOL. Take care my friend. Cheers, Huw
Thanks, Huw! I was just as excited to get this one as I was when I got its big brother 14 years ago! And you are probably correct on the thumbs down. That, or I have a troll. But it's no skin off my backside! LOL Billy
Congratulations Billy! Looks like a real nice lathe I had no more room or I would look closely at one of these. But that means I would need to part with other things.Which I already seemed to have 2 of..lol Take care, Gary
Nice lathe, Billy. Depending upon how it does with your Black Jack Oak test, I may consider selling my Jet 1642 (which I rarely use because I don't turn anything over 12 inches) and getting the mini Mustard Monster.
Thanks, John! Roughed the Blackjack oak this morning (had to fill some cracks with resin so we have to wait). But I will say this, I started with a bone dry 12" blank that weighed about 20 pounds. It was badly out of balance so the first few minutes was turned at 200 rpm. I'm on the middle belt (30 - 1800 rpms) and never once bogged it down. After I got the balance a little better I was able to run to 650 rpm past the wobble comfortably. This beast has all the torque you could ask for. Needless to say, I'm ecstatic! Couldn't be more pleased. I know this is only one test, but I've had 6 other lathes and the only one that comes close beats it. And it is my larger PM 3520B. Would I make the same decision again? In a heartbeat! Billy
Thank you, sir. I threw a 12" chunk of bone dry Blackjack oak on it yesterday and couldn't bog it down, even taking big cuts. I did manage to slip the belt once, but only once and it might be because I didn't tighten it enough. That video should be up in the next few days... but I'm still working on it. It will be my first of several review vids. Billy
Congratulations on your new lathe! I hope it serves you well. It looks like a quality piece of equipment. Do you have 3 phase power in your shop? Stay safe. Bill
Thank you, William! No, I don't have 3 phase power even though both Powermatics have 3 phase motors. They have converters in their control boxes that let them run off standard current. The 3520B requires 220 volts and the 2014 uses 110 volts. Billy

Thanks. Just bought this lathe. Looking forward to setting it up.
Cool, Mark! Hope you enjoy it!

Congrats on the new lathe Bill! My wife didn't buy in on the idea that I should get a new lathe too. I can't wait to see it in action. - Ed
Thanks, Ed! That is unfortunate considering the sale Powermatic is having this month. ;-)
Billy
Billy Burt so what I should be telling her is that it will cost me more money if I wait. Ha ha
Congrats on the new toy! Looking forward to seeing it covered in shavings.
Coming soon! But FWIW it already is. And I LOVE this lathe! ;-)
