    Hey thanks for the video. New to motorcycles myself and I was so confused where the tiny o ring would go. You pulling the filter insert apart was a lifesaver! Cheers!

    One of the things that I like about old bikes and cars, is that you can do the maintenance yourself.

    Synthetic oil ruined the starter clutch on my 1978 Kawasaki Z650, use whatever oil is recommended for your bike. Mine is 10/40 mineral oil.

    There is a steel mesh strainer on the oil pickup in the sump as well, a lot of kz's die after rebuilds because any stray gasket cement blocks the strainer.

    usually on those old metric bikes its best oil level is when the sight glass is half clear and half oil

    Easy to check how much oil should be in there on the Internet, easy to buy a measuring jug from the local supermarket, easy to pour in the correct amount.....I bought a bike recently which had 60% more oil in it than it should have....

    Wow our Wal- Mart doesn't carry any MC oil. Good way to get to know your bike.

      they keep over in the motorcycle section, next to the RV stuff, not in the regular oil area.

    Check out rotella t6. Tons of guys use it in their bikes and it's a very cheap full synthetic. I use it and change the oil every 500 miles

    Your bike is older than half the people in the world. Good thing you save yourself some money by doing it yourself.

    Hey, so at 12:17 in your video you see on the case it says, "OIL 3000 CC" Just so happens that 3000 CCs is almost exactly 3.1 quarts.

    • @Iseekoutthetrails
      @Iseekoutthetrails  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yea i saw that before, did not know what that was about, found a web site that has all the specifications for everything, so I added more oil, and changed the plugs, running good right now.

      Ha 9 years later, little questions like this and where specifically those oil seal rings go, have made me realize just how invaluable a resource having the original owners manual from 1975 for my bike really is 😅

    Why no mudguards, crap all over the engine,mud and grit into the carb's. Oil capacity on Kawasaki usually marked near the oil-level view window. 3 Litres?

    Your not supposed to use full synthetic i have a 77 gs400 even those it is old or may have a lot of miles the bike was never designed to have that kind of oil I recommend just using conventional oil it is also cheaper

    oil filter takes some oil as it is soaked with oil, I would put oil level up to mark on sight glass, up higher than you had it. That oil is way over kill for that bike, get your bike oil at Walmart, automotive oil from there is fine for that bike they sell 5 quart containers for $12.00 /5 quarts, "Do NOT get energy conserving Oil" or "Energy Conserving Oil" that will make your clutch slip, GET either Shell Rotella T 15w-40, or chevron Delo400LE oil 15w-40, get standard oil Not synthetic older bike transmissions sometimes like regular dindosaur oil better then synthetic oil, your bike weighs 420-lbs that weight listed on bike tag is the bike total weight limit, meaning what the bike can carry including its own weight, that filter bolt had a check valve/oil bypass in it the bypass is in case oil has not been changed so your engine can still get lubrication if the oil filter gets plugged
