Kudos to those who could follow these directions- I could not, I was looking for something easier than Photoshop. I have my own art and photos & can’t figure out how to make it into color pages.
This is a brilliant tutorial. Thank you. I still have a computer with Serif on it - predessor of Affinity. I'm sure it's super slow but I'm going to try it.
Sadly no. And Designer does not yet auto trace which is what you need to create vector line art automatically. You can manually trace but of course that takes longer.
This was so helpful. I have watched it repeatedly and then tried this process. It works so well on my desktop app. I have two questions: 1) How do I duplicate the "invert" step in affinity photo for ipad, and 2) doesn't the act of exporting it as a .png or .jpg flatten the image already? Do you even have to merge the layers? Thank you in advance!
Apologies for the late reply. I flatten the image to ensure I have no problems during the export. Not sure about the iPad as I don’t use it. If I find out I’ll update 😏
It works perfectly in V1, but I haven't been able to make this technique work in V2.0. The adjustment layer seems to be clipped to the layer that you're working on, therefore the changes you make affect both layers. Is there another step that needs to be performed for this to work? Thank you in advance ☺️
It's the HSL step that no longer works in the same way - it does not completely desaturate all the colour and leaves you with colored lines instead of B/W. I've tried different blend modes, going to black and white and others but no joy yet. Very annoying! I've written to Affinity to ask them what else we can do.
You need to make sure you’re on the right layer - see the video from 6:15. And choose the right blend mode. Again make sure you’re on the right layer again after setting the blend mode and before inverting (Control I)
Oh I see this only works for v1... I kept trying and trying but the outcome were not the same, until I read the comments.... 😭. I'm sure you'll find another way, will it work if we change the picture to black n white first?
@SylverZone Ok, I thought that might be the problem. I followed your instruction step by step. Once I went from blur to g? It wouldn't turn white when I used the slider. I tried to figure out the command, but can't seem to get it.
@@SylverZone You are correct. I mispoke. The method that you teach and that has worked so well for me previously no longer works. It may in fact be due to me using some AI generated images.
What a fabulous tutorial! You are so clear and so easy to follow! I love this. The macros were a fantastic new thing for me to learn. Thank you. ❤️
Aah - thank you. So glad it helped. 😊

Thank you Jane, much appreciated 👍
ty for that. great tutorial!
Wonderful! Can you take it a step further and export in vector? Or can Designer create lineart for colouring pages from images?
Sadly no. And Designer does not yet auto trace which is what you need to create vector line art automatically. You can manually trace but of course that takes longer.
@@SylverZone I think Inkscape (free software) can trace a bitmap to create a vector image that you can then use in Designer.
@@sandramaclean6595 yes it can
Great video. Thank you for sharing
You’re very welcome 😊
Fantastic video, thank you
Awesome video. Thank you so much 🥰
You’re welcome

@@Ruth--Butler sadly - no. Think I’ll have to ask again as I can no longer find the question.

I've followed the steps but when I get to control i the image goes darker like a negative instead of white. Can't figure out what I"m doing wrong.

Do you think this process could be repeated in other tools, like Photoshop, or Inkscape, or something?
I haven’t tried it, but no reason why not. Photoshop has macros (actions).
Why won't my picture turn white after I hit contl i
Can’t say without some more detail? I made this video using Affinity V1 some time ago. It works differently for V2 I think.

Is there a way to do this in krita or inkscape?
Sorry I don’t use them so I don’t know.
I misspoke. Affinity Photo 2 does not work when I use AI generated images that I attempt to convert to coloring pages.
Err … this was in Affinity Photo, not Publisher. You’re maybe thinking of the Photo Persona in Publisher?

I think it’s V2 that is the problem as I’ve noted in the description.
I’ll keep nagging at Affinity.

Were you able to figure out a solution with Affinity's V2?

what program are you using?
Umm - Affinity Photo ….
Which software program is this?
Affinity Photo as I say at the beginning :-)
Thanks a lot
What is the name of this program?
Affinity Photo as it says on the thumbnail cover 😊
Good vedio.
