  • Something a little different from me today! I had a few minutes spare and these guys arrived in the mail yesterday, so it seemed like an opportune moment to take a look in the boxes and see what you get from The Plastic Soldier Company. A solid box with one or two issues, this would be a pretty decent place to start for a skirmish game in 20mm (1/72) scale.

    Thanks for the review. I have been wondering how they looked. Your review answers a lot of questions.

      On the whole they're pretty good. My one real bugbear is the swapped position on that water bottle and respirator bag, but with that exception they're bang on in most respects. Can't really complain about the price, either!

    Thanks for the review. I can't be bothered gluing together 1/72 miniatures. A company called Zvezda do great miniatures in this scale and are pretty good value. They're available on Amazon for about £11 for a box of 40 or so miniatures. Caesar Miniatures do a box of 42 WW2 partizans for £8. I just painted up a set of these and the sculpts are great.

      Caesar Miniatures I hadn't heard of before, definitely going to have to check those ones out. Especially for something that's ordinarily a little more difficult to find like partizans.

      @@SonicSledgehammerStudio Caesar British soldiers are one of the best British soldier kits out there.

    I think you got one of the early PSG Sherman sets. Later sets give you a bit more variety- including different gun sizes and stowage.

    one thing you didn't mention was that the prone bren gunner comes in three parts the bipod and barrel being a heck of a fiddly bit to assemble so I'll stick to the 15mm wher ther are only two parts to assemble lol

      I'd actually completely forgotten! You're not wrong, either. What a pain in the butt that was to assemble. The 15mm figures are retooled and more accurate than these older 20mm figures, I believe. I know they've at least got those respirator packs on the correct side!

    Great and informative video on the use of 20mm models in games typically thought to be 28mm. I was thinking about getting into Bolt Action on a budget myself with some Italeri 20mm infantry and I still don't exactly have a good picture in my head how big these guys are. In the video they look about right but I still have yet to see a direct comparison of one of these models next to a "proper" wargaming mini. It doesn't help I haven't seen a Bolt Action mini in person myself, but from comparison pictures I've seen online they are a bit smaller than GW Cadians, which I'm familiar with. Could you compare the height of one of these next to a Bolt Action mini and an Imperial Guard mini? Thanks.

    Hey I've been binge watching your videos while painting, do you think you could do an easy and quick way to paint a power sword? cheers!

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ordinarily I just do my power swords silver with a little blue glaze around the 'power source' deelybopper that most Imperial ones have on the blade. Are you thinking of something more like the traditional blue, crackly sort of effect?

      Like the kind you see on the box but a little less... Complex??? So I guess I'm looking for the really ethereal blueish colour

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio

      Hmm. Good question. I'd probably start from Calgar Blue, then drybrush most of the blade - up and away from the grip - toward the tip with Fenrisian Grey, then blast some sharp highlights with White Scar before giving the whole thing a blue glaze. It's something I've honestly not tried before, but that Guilliman Blue glaze is a miracle worker, so you could probably start from near-white and see what comes of it. Even over Celestra Grey that might work as a great base for that shimmery blue.

      These ones I happened to have spare from some Perry Miniatures Desert Rats, but you can get the same bases separately from Renedra for next to nothing.

      They're nice and quick to assemble, too, and still hold a lot of detail. If I were thinking Tank War for Bolt Action I'd definitely look at 1/72 as the best option.
