EZM Electronics Studio model ESR-2501C "ESR Meter": Description & Video User's Manual

  • This is my attempt to make a 'video user's manual' for the EZM Electronics Studio model ESR-2501C "ESR Meter". This is a widely available and affordable meter for measuring the ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) and DCR (DC Resistance) of capacitors. Unlike some other inexpensive ESR meters, it includes an appropriate case (rather that just a circuit board), and its has better accuracy than many others, and it also measures DCR (many are just ESR). Another plus is that it comes with a small array of different test probes/test clips for various ways of connecting to capacitors. It is also able to measure capacitors 'in circuit' and 'out of circuit'. The main downside is that the manufacturer provides absolutely no documentation on how to use the product; nothing of the sort comes in the box and I could find nothing online. There were only a couple videos about this product on TH-cam, and they were not useful. So, I learned how to use it, corresponded with the manufacturer, and did a lot of experiments to reveal as many details as possible, and rolled all of that into this video. I also wrote a 10 page User's Manual and a 'Quick Guide' card which can be glued to the rear of this meter's case; both are available as PDF downloads from the following fileshare webpage (look under the "EZM Electronics Studio" heading in red text):

    This was very helpful.. trying to decide on which to get and this looks like the best bargain for money and accuracy over a couple other inexpensive options. Thank you. Will download your manual and the feet are a great idea. I have some larger heavier black rubber ones that will add even more weight.

    Hello mister! Thank you very much for this great masterclass! I have bought this esr meter but I discovered from you that I need to buy the battery apart. I have been looking for the 14500 battery in 1600 mah but I can only find it in 800 and 1300mah. Can you please tell me if you know it it will work with a battery of 1300 mah or if you could provide a link for the 1600 mah battery? Thanks a lot! Fernando from the Balearic Islands (Spain).

      @alvaropmi , I don't not know the answer to the battery question. If you cannot find the 1600mAh battery locally, it is readily available from online sellers.

    Hi, I am a newbie to using a ESR tester but after this video I bought this tester but the readings on a brand new Capacitor is not even close to the numbers on the table, a 470/10V reads 0.29 ohm and the table says 0.16

    • @youtuuba
      @youtuuba  7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@RuneKC_DK , the table on this tester is just a typical value, not an absolute. 0.29 Ohm and 0.16 Ohm are very similar values.
      This is another case of what confusion can happen when people try to use equipment without having enough background knowledge to make sense of what the instrument is indicating. Some self-study is recommended.....

    Thanks for your effort and work. Where did you buy it from? Could you share the manufacturer's web page?

      @@youtuuba due too battery safety with litham battery's as it don't regulate correct, a good example is vaping mods that uses separate cells you'd be hard pressed anyone that use in built charging also a good brand battery is key, and good example of charger is Vapcell S4 Plus Battery Charger Tester V3.0, look at it like this remember old car chargers that just use to pump in volts till the battery was charged its the same idea

      @namAlexander maybe you have a point in there somewhere, but it is difficult to understand what you wrote; one long run-on sentence, grammatical and spelling and punctuation errors. Perhaps English is not a strong language for you.

      I pointed out that there were issues with the intelligibility of your comment, and your reply is to NOT fix your problem but to try and turn it into MY problem.

    I found some 14500 batteries locally that are 3.2 volts. Wondering if this is a critical error?

    Hi. I bought this meter, but I don't like the length of these measurement cables, they are very inconvenient to use after attaching the tips. I wonder if they can be replaced, for example, with tweezers. Maybe you have an idea. Regards

      attex576, I think I mentioned in the video that I tried extending the test leads but found that the meter would no longer zero properly.
