The san diego zoo safari is home to hundreds of animals and it's signature exhibit is the african savanna which goes on for hundreds of acres. The wild safari park is home to a africa tram tour, balloon safari ride, a zipline and more. Some of the highlights of the san diego zoo safari park are the austrailia walkabout home to kangaroos & duckbill platypus, tiger trail, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, gorillas and many more.

When I went 20 years ago, we took the tram. The driver started by telling us that the people who made the movie Jurassic Park studied the tram ride for how to design the sets for the tour in the movie. It was ironic as the train broke down and we were stuck out there for two hours.

Safari Park Volunteer here. The gorilla was holding a burlap sack, not a blanket. They love their burlap sacks, especially the male bachelors. They play with them, sit on them, lay on them, and put them over their head. Not sure why, but they just love them. Same with the orangutans. Probably serves the same purpose as a kid's security blanket.

Tragically, a few years ago the San Diego Safari Park lost their northern white rhino, a male I believe, and so far as we know he was the last male northern white rhino. Only two females remain as the last northern white rhinos in the world, effectively meaning the species is extinct.
There are plans to attempt to revive the species, using semen and eggs that had been collected from northern white rhinos, and have the fertilized embryos implanted into female southern white rhinos, but thus far nothing seems to have come of it.
