Thank you very much for the explanation. A structured process also for the mechanical parts of a mechatronic system is very urgent!

It will be great if you can explain it with some example or case study..

Do you have recommendations to translate ASILs in to the mechanical domain?

@emesde thanks for your question! Our recommendation is to allocate the safety relevance (ASIL) to the requirements of the mechanical system during the development of the safety concept. The mechanical subsystems and/or components which implement these requirements will usually get a special characteristic (MSE.2 BP4) to signalize safety relevance. We hope this answer is helpful!

@@ULSolutionsSIS But how to proceed with the ASIL requirement in the mechanical domain. How does one calculate that the design takes the ASIL target into account. I'm not really a fan of the terminology special characteristic (or is that just me :p)

@emesde as ISO26262 does not define the development methods for mechanical systems/components, there is no mapping between ASIL and methods to be used. Nevertheless to take into account that there is a safety relevance, you could use already mentioned “special characteristics”, which is defined in SPICE for Mechanical Engineering.
