However the acid in the soda helps dissolve the chemical on the tongue since it has a very low solubility in water. Milk helps soothe the pain due to the fat content but does not remove it because it is only slightly acidic. The more acidic the drink is, the better the chemical will dissolve and be removed off of your tongue. Now this does not mean you should go around drinking HCl every time you eat some Hot Cheetos but if you just let some Coke sit in your mouth for 10 seconds and just move it around in your mouth and spit it out, it will definitely help. Just basic Chemistry.
