I think a part of the reason the one bridge held out better was that the land on the far side was shaped different. So, while the bridge model may be a given length, the effective distance the zombies need to cross is larger than it looks.
Here’s an idea on how to stop flanks. Put a large unit of less powerful soldiers on the flank that totally reliant on numbers would be too powerful to ever even be touched by the zombies. But because they are the weaker/weakest unit on the field and rely on numbers, it makes the bridge defenders still seem like the chads who are fighting the main defense
Also it makes it almost seem like the giga chad bridge defenders are sacrificing themselves in an epic last stand holding off the hordes of walking dead for the sake of the rest of the army hiding/holding on the flanks
Insane how much things change when there's a flank. I wonder if a new series on real world battle recreations would do well? Recreate actual battles and see how things turn out. I imagine the hardest part would be finding terrain in the game that matches the real world terrain of a particular battle.
I had an idea for a new battle. The two islands are COVERED with Redcoats and French Musketeers. Outside the bridges are huge formations of different melee troops. They have to hold off multiple avenues of attack from a VAST variety of enemies
i think a major problem is the shooter units stay glued to one enemy even if theres a closer one or one attacking them. in the first it seemed theyd switch targets to focus fire on closer ones

If there is a risk of flanking put 1 super soldier to hold that point on hold move mode and if they die then they deserve for the flank to succeed

You should make a shield unit that does the lowest damage you can set but absurd health. Use them as walls to prevent flanks
