Oh the memories! I can still remember that special taste and as a kid crouching over the empty pit picking off the very warm stones bits of meat and veges that might have fallen out of the baskets. I now live in Hawai'i but those memories still have me salivating! My pakeha friends always insisted I take them to the next hangi. Happy days. Kia ora.

So I was supposed to go to New Zealand for a semester (but covid happened). As such I was looking into New Zealand dishes and came across this video. If I have another opportunity to go to New Zealand, that’s one of the things I have to try! It looked super good!

its not really something you can go and just buy to actually organise this you have to help in order to get fed and it takes a few hours

I’ve replicated the cooking process as best as I could where I live, which just involved a slow cooker

That's how you cook a hangi with the corrugated iron on top instead of dirt straight on top of the food that's how we do it on the marae in raukawa but we heat up irons in steel barrels we use irons instead of rocks cause rocks explode when heated

They only exsplode if there not heat treated. Volcanic rocks are best. Irons last for ever tho

Now thats how you do a hangi with corrugated iron dont let the steam out instead of dirt straight on the food could of had the whole a little bit deeper but oh well nem mind
