I don't think any reactors have noticed Gus passing his body double in the tunnel. The guy was younger than Gus, but would look similar from a distance and was dressed just like him. He was crossing over to Gus' house so to take his place while Gus went over to the command center in the other house.

The idea that Cliff should just realize that Jimmy went to the lengths of dressing up like Howard and stealing his car in the middle of the day just so he'd witness that scene is pretty ludicrous. No one would make that connection in real life.

@@dog-eared6991 Jimmy also created a tv add that could have ruined D&M's reputation as a law firm. But aside from what he did in D&M, we saw how far word has spread that Jimmy helped a cartel member; from lawyers to street thugs. Cliff should know that Kate is married to Jimmy and should at least suspect that she called him there to see Howard's car drive by. It's really not that far of a leap to think someone is setting Howard up; namely Jimmy.

@@johnreede6558 that ad doesn't add anything to your argument. Again, Clif literally sees Howard's car and someone who looks just like Howard. There's zero reason for him to go yeah Jimmy totally was able to get Howard's car and do this. He saw the fake cocaine fall out of his locker. He heard the Kettlemans talk about it. There's nothing there to make Cliff go yup, totally Jimmy and Kim's doing.
And word about the Lalo situation has seemingly just spread within the people working at the local courthouse *that day*. Cliff isn't working in that courthouse every day at ABQ, he's in an entirely different city and is only in town for some meetings.
Beyond all of that people's view of Kim is very different than their view of Jimmy. Even if it was reasonable for Cliff to just jump to this all being Jimmy's doing (which is still absolutely ridiculous) no one would believe that the respectable Kim Wexler is in on this scam against Howard.

The reason for the court staff shunning Saul isn't necessarily that he was defending Lalo...in the justice system of course someone needs to represent Lalo. It is that he was representing the false persona Jorge De Guzman - presenting to the court Jorge's family, etc., trying to help gain bail access; all while knowing it was Lalo.
Like Bill said in reference to everyone just knowing Saul had knowledge of the situation..."There's proving, and then there's knowing."

    • @MarkHogan994
      @MarkHogan994 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

And any lawyer who lies to the court about the identity of his client would be very, very poorly regarded. I don't know what the law is in New Mexico but in some places doing something like that is grounds for suspension or disbarment, if not worse.
Jimmy used deceit and participated in a scam (the fake family) in order to get the judge to grant bail. That is at a bare minimum a serious breach of ethics, if not outright illegal depending on the legal system. No matter which lawyer did that, they would be viewed as a shyster.

    Jimmy/Kim/Howard situation:
The motivation behind Jimmy & Kim's scam isn't just a revenge trip, however - there's a major financial element. Back in Better Call Saul season 1, Jimmy unearthed a massive lawsuit at Sandpiper Crossing retirement home, whereby the owners were systematically overcharging elderly residents. Jimmy passed the case onto HHM and Davis & Main, but is entitled to a 20% cut. Unfortunately, he hasn't seen a dime since, with Sandpiper's lawyers still going back-and-forth haggling over the settlement sum. Kim theorizes that if she and Jimmy can destroy Howard Hamlin's professional reputation, Cliff Main (he of Davis & Main fame) would immediately agree to the settlement Sandpiper was offering, fearing the potential damage a disgraced Howard could do to their position. That offer currently stands at $26 million, mean Jimmy would receive a cool $2 million.

It must also be added that Howard is not so innocent. He held Kim back in her career as her boss. He listened to Chuck to shaft Jimmy when he knew it was personal and wrong. Hell, he turned on Chuck without giving it a second glance. Howard's not a criminal, but has negatively affected Kim and Saul's lives. Kim ends up quitting H.H.M. and immediately gets a better offer from a prestige firm. So much of this is karma coming back to bite Howard.

I think Kim has her own personal vendetta against Howard for how he treated her previously .. maybe partially as directives from Chuck to injure Jimmy indirectly .. but even Howard confessed to Chuck that he was punishing Kim for not protecting the firm. And to top it all off Howard has treated her as some fragile naive flower needing (in her mind) his ineffectual protection.

@UCqT9Rlr6cXZ5XuRDvhaeSiQ That's true, but I also have to wonder why anyone believes Jimmy would want Kim anywhere near someone like Walt, to warrant a Breaking Bad appearance at all. Jimmy's not even working in the same office anymore this season so their paths have already started to diverge. It wouldn't make sense for her to show up out of the blue once Saul is deep into the game. Remember that Lalo only knows who Kim even is because she went straight to him. Jimmy never would have let that happen if he had the choice.
However, I think a split is still a big possibility. And if they do split up, I think it will be Jimmy's doing, and at least in his mind, he'll be doing it to help Kim somehow. If Kim took all the heat and it was Jimmy's fault or god forbid, ended up dead. I don't think he'd be nearly as upbeat and colorful in Breaking Bad
I suppose the writers could also just pit them against each other through a series of unfortunate misunderstandings like what they did to Walt and Jesse's relationship but it would take some doing. I think Kim is too smart at this point to not consider that Jimmy may be playing her. She knows he's not above deceiving her. Even then, I could only see her turning on him if she truly felt wronged by Jimmy somehow

Howard held back BOTH Jimmy and Kim in their careers. He still doesn't deserve it completely, especially after Jimmy made Howard believe that solely Howard was responsible for Chuck's death. This time, instead of ruining the life a lonely old lady in a retirement home they are ruining the life of a colleague/rival who did them wrong many times in the past. He called Jimmy "Gollum" for asking for a "handout" when demanding his part of the Sand Piper settlement. Again, I love Howard, he doesn't deserve the hit to his reputation, but Kim believes Howard can weather it. Jimmy does have reservations, he does hesitate but only for the sake of Kim.
And we have seen the driver tailing Kim before, in Breaking Bad and surveilling the Germans, maybe other times. Gus might be the one that is responsible for Kim's eventual fate now, and that is as scary as Lalo being responsible.

"His car probably smells like his hooker." Don't you DARE talk about our Wendy like that! She's fucking solid.
I'm not sure exactly what Gus is up against, but the point is he goes into "his" house, changes, then heads through a tunnel into the house next door. That house we thought was his was never his. But it's fully still functional. He can cook dinner and eat with Jesse there, if he wants to.

I think the major takeaway from this "prank" is actually Howard's marital fallout. Like y'all said, the groundwork was laid for Howard's character assassination. And sure, he threw a prostitute out this time, but it wasn't a one-off. Both Howard and Cliff were eating lunch when Jimmy sent two prostitutes over to them in Wexler vs Goodman. And Howard has recommended therapy to Jimmy in the past (season 4, episode 5), so Jimmy would know about this potential "pressure point." Pretty sure his wife is gonna buy it, and they'll split up. Kim and Jimmy get their $1.6 million, but they also cause more harm to Howard than "just" his name and reputation. I'm not thinking suicide, but who knows? The question is, how would Jimmy and Kim respond in that situation? Did Jimmy know this could happen? Like Walt knowing he'd have to hurt a child to justify the ends?
I can't recall if there were other times Howard shared his marital troubles with anyone. Ah well, nice thing about the show is, I love being wrong.

It must also be added that Howard is not so innocent. He held Kim back, in her career, as her boss. He listened to Chuck to shaft Jimmy when he knew it was personal and wrong. Hell, he turned on Chuck without giving it a second glance. Despite Chuck being the driving force of the firm from day one. Chuck help grow Howard's firm when it was a "mom and pop" shop. Howard's not a criminal, but has negatively affected Kim and Saul's lives. Kim ends up quitting H.H.M. and immediately gets a better offer from a prestige firm. All of this is karma coming back to bite Howard.
