- Outside perspective of the full journey of the Heritage Darjeeling Himalayan Railway route between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling. My friend Natarajan and I followed the train from Siliguri Junction to Ghoom on a hired scooter. From a hot, dusty December morning, we ended up with a rain soaked cold evening, all the while constantly clicking still pics as well as videos.
Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, which is other wise referred to as Darjeeling Toy Train have most number of services between Darjeeling and Ghum and couple of Tourist specials from Kurseong as well. But just one daily train runs between New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling.

Dear friends. Looking at this wonderful video and realising that 242 people (an insignificant minority, of course) placed a thumb down, for once I would like to enter the minds of these people who, everywhere and every time, have some pleasure in expressing feelings contrary to common sense.
There are a few trains services in India gifted by the British.I have been on the Ooty version done south.

Fantastic filming! I've not travelled on the railway itself, but have travelled that route with my wife's family when visiting them in Siliguri. You have really captured the unique atmosphere of this wonderful location 👌

Train looks cool but darjeeling looks beautiful........u should visit in the month of November to may as the weather is not cloudy at these months......there's a lot of beautiful places and also you can see mt. Kanchenjunga clearly at these times.....and make sure you go to sandakphu😅

7:13 - Dog is acting like a crossing siren and a marshal.
Must say, this is a great catch of an interesting infrastructure.
Another great video. However I dislike the “Toy train” description. It’s a narrow gauge fully functional railway. The NDM-6 locomotives do a fantastic job. I’ve travelled the line a few times in the last five years and I’ve found it a pleasurable experience each time.

Do they still run train from Siliguri to Darjeeling? I heard they stopped the service from silguri
That line really has some steep grades and tight curves. Reminds me of my first model train layout. Probably the three car train is about the limit the engine can pull/push upgrade. Nice sounding horn on the engine. It sounds a little like the old Baldwin switchers over here in the US. Thanks for posting this!
There's a reason narrow gauge was employed for the job.

I thought Darjeeling rail has a steam engine locomotive. Have they removed the narrow gauge steam locomotive.....
Steam locos work on tourist special between Darjeeling and Ghoom, and Siliguri - Rongtong. For the rest, it's always Diesel.

.....i had visited Darjeeling last when i was a small kid in 1992 and now i,m planning to go with my kid and family :)
@@CyrusInIndia yes. This train starts from New Jalpaiguri and goes all the way to Darjeeling. Due to operational reason, Diesel loco is preferred over the steam for the full journey. Steam locos are used for short runs and tourist specials with lighter load.

We travelled by this train in 2018 March after seeing many videos. No flattery...exceptionally superb video with a special reality feeling..We three friends once in an year travelling through mountain areas especially prefer mountain ,meter gauge routes. Really feels some speciality. Good job

I saw this as a 9y old I am 64y now. That was the time when the steam locomotives were there now it has changed to Diesel traction now, but the beauty has reamined. Was a little disappointed that the Batasia Loop was not shown.

No special process. Whenever railway resume service, you can book the tickets through irctc.
