Gorgeous blanket! I’m a 65 years young crochet “newbie” and you have me very enthused! You are a great 👩🏫 teacher. 👍🏻 I love hearing the sparrows tweet at the beginning of the video. You and I have something in common: we love pretty nails 💅🏼 . I get new nail art and colours every fortnight! I also have bright purple hair at the moment... not your usual grandma you could say! Guess I have better jump onto Amazon and get me some of that lovely yarn 🧶 to start this blanket. Best wishes from New Zealand 🇳🇿 🌹❣️
Love it Fran S! I'm sure you're an AMAZING grandma! You may be able to find some nice variegated yarn in New Zealand or from Australia next door a lot cheaper. Wishing you all the very best!
BonnieBayCrochet I do, but Red Heart seems to have better varigated yarns than I can find here. We work mainly in wool here too, merino or merino/possum mix being favourites for warmth and softness.
Thank you so much for this step by step tutorial, Bonnie. I made this, my first blanket, for our first baby granddaughter. I entered it in the local country fair and it won the blue ribbon!
Hi Bonnie, I just finished making my second baby blanket using this pattern. A friend of mine will be a grandmother soon and I made this for her grandson. I used Caron Baby Cakes by Yarnspirations in the color Dreamy Sky. I am going to email you a picture of it. Thank you so much! Liz B (from Corning, NN)
This has become my go to blanket over the past year. I love the way the colors work up. It is an easy and fast pattern to bring crowd pleasing comments at baby showers. Thanks so much for the tutorial!
Thank you ! My mother in law showed me this stitch years ago, she made countless baby blankets and Afghans using this stitch, she was a mother of 12!, I married her youngest son David 28 years ago, she sadly passed away last year and she suffered from dementia for years, so I couldnt ask her to show me again 😥 I've made many many blankets, using sc, dc and tc stitches over the years, but I've always wanted to make a few Afghans for my children and grandchildren using this beautiful shell pattern! Thanks to you and you easy to follow tutorial! I'm ready! I ordered a bunch of red heart multi color yarn! I'm excited to get started! I'm practicing tonight on leftover yellow yarn, my afghans will be done in a multi skein of browns cream and tans ( cafe latte) 😊
I had tried to follow the printed instructions for a shell baby blanket, and it was so crooked. I gave it to my niece anyway, figuring it would keep the baby warm, but she never used it. I followed your instructions here, and now have crocheted my second baby blanket with absolutely straight edges. Thank you so much for your clear instructions. May the Lord bless you!

Hi Bonnie I’ve been busy.....have just finished a cot blanket for my granddaughter in shades of pink, salmon, mauve & white. Increased the hook size to 5.5 and did 131 chain, resulting in a finished size of 90 x 120, so thrilled with the result, love this pattern and so easy to do
I have a hard time learning because of dyslexia but I love the beauty of crochet and could actually follow your tutorial! I'm so excited because I'm going to be a first time grandmother and this is what I'll give that precious baby! Thank you.
I've been crocheting for a few months and have so far only managed the granny square blankets and then I ventured into giving them the shell border. I love the idea of an entire blanket using the shell stitch. I'm off to the wool shop next week for some variegated yarn. Can't wait to get started. Thank you for a fantastic tutorial, I didn't have to pause it once or rewind as it was explained so clearly and precisely.
This is actuslly my favorite stitch/pattern... I’m currently working on two preemie blankets, using DK weight yarn. One is being done in Lion Brand’s Baby Soft... Circus Print, and the other is in Lion Brand’s Ice Cream...Blueberry. They both look wonderful. This multiple of 6 plus 1 is a much easier pattern than the multiple of 6 plus 2... All you have to do is to keep repeating row 2..
I’m totally getting it. I taught elementary school for 34 years. You are a great teacher ❣️😊. Please keep sharing. I have been watching a few others. They need to be sure we can get a good view. Discuss as you do helps. Going slower.helps. 😊 When turning I tend to need a little more understanding. 😍. Thanks!
I planned to make a baby's blanket. Saw your video. I never crocheted fancy stitches before..just your basic single and double crochet.... but your video inspired me. I fell in love with this scallop design. You showed every stitch in detail and I love this pattern. Easy crocheting and very relaxing.. Thank you so much......
Bonnie for many years I have tried to understand this stitch and for the first time I got it and understood the stitching and the pattern. Thank you so much for teaching this.
My first blanket I ever made was a shell blanket, but I never had a pattern for it so sometimes I would forget what to do at the end and beginning of the rows. Thank you for giving such great instructions. I have already made a blanket and a hat for my new little great nephew who will be here soon.
This is the first blanket I learned to crochet, then told mom I was going to do all single crochet (boy did that blanket take a long time to make) I started it for me by the time I got it long enough for a single bed - my daughter claimed it for her bed so I did not get to use it, she had it long time. It's a great blanket for baby, a single, or a full size blaket I don't know the stitch multiple so I make chain long enough to go across bed then start crocheting if too many I just take chains out or cut chain but leave some for end
You are the absolute best crochet teacher. I made this with the camo yarn and gave as a gift. It was an absolute hit. Thank you so much. Easiest pattern ever.
Thank you Bonnie for your tutorial! I have made this baby blanket several times and I really enjoy this pattern. If I start crocheting at night when I'm watching TV, it's so easy that the next thing I know is I have crocheted myself to sleep. LOL. Thank you for sharing your talent. Such an easy pattern. This is a great video thank you so much. I started creating my own Stitch last night using the same thing only on the third row it became a big ruffle and I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong now I can go back and it'll be beautiful like yours

Bonnie... I believe this pattern to be a multiple of 6+1...instead of the usual 6+2... I love it, because you end up simply repeating Row 2... The multiple of 6+2 has you repeating rows 2 & 3., and you are required to : crochet three dc’s...either at the beginning or at the end of the row (I forgot which). Call me stupid, but thus always confuses me, and that takes the pleasure out of the project. Thank you for teaching the easiest way to crochet acShell Stitch Blanket... I like to do a row of single crochet first. (It just makes for a sturdy base row) In light of that: if doing it that way, I found that a stitch multiple of 6+5 works. Beautiful pattern!! 😍

Thank you for the video, it’s very clear and I love my finished baby blanket… when I used a different yarn. You are a excellent teacher. And I e subscribed and love all your videos. One thing I must mention is that I did order the Red Heart Stripes yarn that states it’s Made in USA of imported fibers from Mexico, that noted…good or bad I found the yarn inconsistent, meaning the strands were thick, then thin, then very thin etc. throughout 6 different skeins of the same lot. I only wish is could share a photo. I also found blobs of yarn on stands at least 10 times in one skien… I’ve been crocheting since 1965 and the quality of yarn has gotten consistently worse throughout the decades, but this yarn although very colorful is not good quality at all. Hopefully all these stripes yarn are not like this… I don’t know I will not be using it anymore to find out!
Hi. Thanks for the great tutorial. I started this pattern, making it wider/longer, using different colors. Two questions - How do you change yarn/color at the end of a row? How do you start a new skein of yarn mid-row? Thanks again.

Bonnie, I love this blanket. Have made it once before and beginning to start another. If I choose to make it narrower, what increments should I make my chain...instead of 109 chain stitches, how do I calculate a smaller width?

Have just finished this blanket and very happy with it. Loved your easy tutorial and the video is excellent, easy to follow the instructions....thanks Bonnie On another note, I don’t think it needs a border if the edges are done correctly.
I totally agree! I think if you want to finish off the edge when you're done you could do a single crochet row at the end. I did a mock up for a very special little girl. She had a few to choose from and she chose this one (which I was hoping for)! The edges came out straight so I don't think this needs a border either!

Thanks for all your help with this blanket
Thank you so much. I'm starting one for my great granddaughter. Love this!!
Congratulations Miss Ziggy! You are a blessed lady!!
I like your shell stitch baby blanket tutorial. I'm going to give it a try. Thank you for sharing.
You are the best at teaching!! You are so fast but I can keep up because you are so clear! Thank you!!!
Thank you Tara! You can always adjust the speed of the video by clicking on the gear-shaped icon in the lower right corner of the video (3 vertical dots in upper right corner for cell phones), then selecting a slower playback speed. I hope this helps!
Thank you for your tutorial & sharing your talent. As you said looks complicated but you made it so easy to learn. I enjoyed watching you. It was clear and the camera angle was just right to see what you are doing . Not long conversation. All good , thank you. 🙏🏼🥰 God bless.
Thank you for your kindness Marzyeh!😊❤️

Thank you Isa!😊❤️
Love this! I’m going to try to make a large throw. I’ll try doubling the 109 ch
Only add multiples of 6 to the original starting chain so you won’t have extra chains.
I love the Retro stripe yarn!
I just made a cancer throw and a blanket for my dog using this yarn😊
Yes, such a classic color combination. Sure do hope they don't phase out this color scheme.
@@BonnieBayCrochet me too! I love it 🐶
Thank you for the video, it’s very clear and I love my finished baby blanket… when I used a different yarn.
Hi Bonnie im 61, my first blanket i ever croched i was 13 and it was a grannie square mind u my cousin didnt tell me when to stop and i ended up maken it to fit a queen size bed , all i have ever did was double and single in a line i never knew how to do anything else i did make some dollies but now at 61 im just learning to make these other stitches i wanna thank u so much now all i wanna do is make blankets

Your detailed instructions help so much!
Hi Bonnie, I just finished making this blanket. We are expecting a grandson in October. I used Bernat Pop by Yarnspirations in the color Birch Bark and Blue. I am going to email a picture of it to you. I really loved this pattern . Thank you so much. Liz B (from Corning, NY)
Thank you Liz! I so appreciate that! On a side note, I visited Corning in 2021 and even toured the museum there. Great time with hubby.
@@BonnieBayCrochet oh so glad you visited Corning, NY. It is a wonderful city :))
Bonnie, I love this blanket. Have made it once before and beginning to start another. If I choose to make it narrower, what increments should I make my chain...instead of 109 chain stitches, how do I calculate a smaller width?
Wow. Thank you Bonnie. This is gorgeous
You are a GREAT teacher!
Thanks for taking the time to encourage me today Ann! Blessings right back at you!
Great blanket for my little baby granddaughter thanks for the pattern
DBD Kilambi congratulations!❤️❤️❤️

Σοφία Σοφιανίδου congratulations on your new grand baby! That is an amazing blessing.😊😊😊
You are my favorite teacher
Awww...thank you! You made my day!
Thank you. Very Very much . Helped me out alot. Tried to learn it from other teacher's on TH-cam. But you made it so simple to learn. This throw will look so cute.
That really blesses me today Robin! Thanks for taking the time to encourage.
Have just finished this blanket and very happy with it. Loved your easy tutorial and the video is excellent, easy to follow the instructions....thanks Bonnie
On another note, I don’t think it needs a border if the edges are done correctly.
So glad this worked for you Judith! Blessings to you...
I totally agree! I think if you want to finish off the edge when you're done you could do a single crochet row at the end. I did a mock up for a very special little girl. She had a few to choose from and she chose this one (which I was hoping for)! The edges came out straight so I don't think this needs a border either!
