  • Our AFK adventure to West Texas continues with a driving day trip from Marfa down the Pinto Canyon Road (FM 2810), and continuing to the remote town of Candelaria, Texas where we find the end of the road. This road also parallels the Rio Grande River. We stopped in Ruidosa at the most remote bar in Texas, which is also the Ruidosa general store, for a beer and a chat. Today's adventure was more about the journey than the destination. There are many views of the scenery as we drove, so buckle up and enjoy the ride! Travel to Texas during covid.
We wanted to give you a glimpse of what driving Into the back country of West Texas is like, but of course, it is more amazing in person!
We really enjoy traveling and exploring Texas!

Oct 31, 81 I drove from Marfa in a 77 Porsche 911S Sunroof Coupe. EZ drive for me. Got the last room at the hotel in Lajitas. The Chisos Basin Lodge was fully booked, of course. Had supper at the lodge restaurant. As it had rained recently, everything was green and in bloom. Worked in the petro-chemical construction industry all over Texas. Plenty of state to explore...

Nice video. I've read that you should always have two spare tires and two jacks to make these trips. Lots of other things, too, of course, including lots of water.

The road was not too bad. Was able to maintain good speed for most of it. We did see a lot of border patrol. We always carry extra water in the desert. Never felt too far from help. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

I drove the exact same route in my Audi A3. No problem at all. No Country for old man was shot along the paveway.

You missed going by Chiniati Hot Springs, my dad lived next door to them,.... really a great place to stay.... been down Pinto Canyon rd many, many times...... looks like Ruidosa revamped the general store by the church. My dad used to take videos of school functions in Candaleria when he first retired out there

We had a stay booked at Chiniati Hot Spring, but right before we got there, an ice storm took out the power to the resort. We do want to stay there some day! The general store is closed now. I hope it reopens some day. There did not seem to be much going on at Candaleria when we were there. Do you know if the school is still there? Thank you for stopping by and commenting!

Hi friends. Sometimes the unplanned can lead to some really great adventures. Crazy how desolate it is out on the road. Very pretty area. Everyone should want to get out and see the beauty. Glad they didn't demolish the church. Hope they are able to get the restoration completed.

    • @AFKDays
      @AFKDays  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The desolation added to the beauty... It was worth the drive and we enjoyed getting out and away from it all! It was a neat church, we also hope they can finish the restoration. Thanks for watching!

Beautiful scenic drive. Love just being surrounded by nature. You certainly need the right vehicle, good advice on being prepared for this ride. We disconnect as often as possible, usually just shutting our phones off. loved the javelinas in the road. Those ruins were beautiful. Yep, that has to be the most distant bar in Texas. Can't imagine living out there but I can understand the attraction to living so remote. 👍

We had a great chat with Jennifer, she runs the bar and general store. There are about 20ish people that live in that community. A couple of other communities like that along the road. Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Exploring out of the way places off-grid is what we really enjoy. Thanks for your kind words!

Nice, most remote bar in Texas, looks like it was out in the middle of nowhere. Glad you were able to enjoy a couple of cold ones and take in the views.

Pinto canyon was our 1st offroad experience. We also stopped for a beer at the cantina. That was a highlight of our big bend trip

Yeah, I want to go back and go slower. did you get off the Road or just stayed on the main road? Trying to plan another trip back to have a beer at that cantina. We picked up some of the leather goods! Did you do both the state and national parks or just one? Did you check out Lajitas?

This is awesome that y’all did this drive. Never heard of any of this so it was cool learning about it. I’m going to chat this one up to see if there is any chance we could hit up that bar. Also you got to see some javelinas! That’s awesome 🤙

We really like going to out-of-the-way places that are cool and interesting, but not as popular. We would be happy to meet you guys at that bar! Definitely put it on your todo list!

There are several trails but most end in locked gates. We tried two... It was probably only a few miles. less than 10 on the longest one we tried. Don't forget to stop for a beer in the most remote bar ini Texas. Tell Jennifer we said hello! Happy driving. We have a couple of videos from the area. Check out Fort Leaton!

I wonder how the people who live out there make their money? It doesn't look like very good farm land. Everything so far away, I think it would be a hard life living there.

    • @AFKDays

A lot do ranching. It is 30+ mins to the nearest town. It would be an interesting life to live. It is something that we have talked about having that lifestyle many times! Thanks for your comment!
