I've been through 3 wars and a humanitarian mission with really skinny people with AK47's trying to shoot you. I lived for 6 years in a country with a communist insurgency, 2 years of which they were going out their way to kill Americans, resulting in 2 years of life under constant threat of being attacked in my home or to/from work, resulting in hyper vigilance at all times. I spent 6 months in Egypt in the early days of Al-Qaida where they were actively killing westerners. I've seen and experienced the absolute worst humanity has to offer. Suffice it to say, I am not an emotional light weight. Quite the opposite. Yet here is this tiny Japanese girl with a big voice whose vocals can bring tears to my eyes. How she is able to do so without me understanding a single word she is singing is a complete mystery to me.

The Endless Rain as they called it. And there was a single tree that survived and stood among the devastation, the Hibakujumoku. So you have the rain, and the umbrellas, and Su walking around in the rain, because ponytail - the girl in the video has to be Su. Su is a native of Hiroshima, and some of her grandparents are Hibakusha - bomb survivors. The bomb isn't history to Su - her family lived it, and I think that's what we see in the video
This is a concept album and each song represents a dimension they visited. It may have such reflections, but that tree is obviously Yggdrasil. The rain in the song and video is not a good rain, just like the firework is not a good firework.

I am typically not a person that gets super emotional with entertainment even when it means a lot to me...but something about Su's vocals in this song hit me hard in the feels the first time I heard it. It was a weird experience for me...I like the song but don't think it's some amazing track...yet I had an oddly strong emotional reaction. I guess it's just because I have been listening to Su since she was a kid and her voice in this song just pierced through.
Su has such great control and straight up emotional projection in her vocal and it's unreal how I could enjoy her voice that much compare to all the kind of insane vocal I've heard in music
For real bro. I too had those feel tho at first i play the song it was good after few more times of listening it was damn fking good and got me emotional. Usually i dont get emotional too but this track man her voice is so GOOD especially the build up part until the drop and understanding the lyrics got me deep bro. Cant wait for the new album!
A great song (one again). It's very beautiful and atmospheric. Probably not a track I will listen to a lot on its own but I assume it will fit perfectly on the album.
I've listened to it many many times. I really like the song of Su between the verse and the chorus. There she sang straight with some kind of breakdown in her voice.
I love your reaction, Alan, more than Japan. And wait, wait, I see this a lot in the comments section, but Su has never made a big show of being from Hiroshima...No Rein or not, fans are just spreading their own delusions, and I think Babymetal is singing about something more universal. I hope they have the courage to attack Finland, the very edge of Eastern Europe, on their tour with Sabaton next year. I believe it is to support this song.
Not sure about anyone else, but the more I listen to Divine Attack and Monochrom back to back, it starting to feel like it was meant to be one song like Tales of the Destinies and The One, and they decided to cut it into two.... Either way, I definitely like the new sound they're heading with in these two songs..... Monochrome sounds like a combination of Brand New Day style of vocals with From Dusk Till Dawn sort of electronic effects.... Love it.... Still wondering if the are going to throw in a fun food theme song into this album, like they had Gimme Chocolate, Pa Pa Ya, or even Awadama Fever for their past albums....🤘🦊🤘
Thanks again from Japan 有難う 💛。 When I heard "Divine Attack", I thought "We (BM fans) all know this is just one of their various faces that we are going to witness from now on. Let's not be judgmental in haste." This second song has proved it, but in a more drastic way than I expected. Su's pure voice resonates with the bones in my whole body. Vibrating to the resonance, I am now pondering on what the implication of the lyric is. 🤔 For example, do you have any idea about "that monochrome firework" that has stark contrast to "the sky decorated in a spectrum of dreams" ?
New to your channel, I like the honesty in your videos... at least the couple I've seen so far. Great reaction too! I also want to see them do this live, I think it'll be amazing
Alan, you're not alone at feeling the emotional impact of this song, just sayin'. "During the dusk of Ragnarok, what are we to see? No matter how long the night, the morning will arrive." That's the thing about this band, they always inspire a positive message. Watch "Karate", for instance, or the song, "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" (Bullying, No Good, Absolutely) about standing up for yourself. The world needs heroes these days, not anti-heroes. The world needs a positive message of good. Babymetal delivers that, and maybe for some, gives the strength to go on. On the other hand, Papaya is goofy as shit.
I love the pop vocal hook amidst all the power chords. This is like an old metal ballad of yesteryear but with 8 string guitars, washed in keyboards, with girls instead of guys. I'm an old Rush-o-phile and I always felt like Babymetal was the rock children of Rush. Heavy guitars, drenched in keys with those high pitched voices just feels like the next evolutionary step in Prog metal. From Rush and Yes to Dream Theater and now Babymetal. I haven't liked a song this much since I was a teenager hearing Tom Sawyer on the radio for the first time.
😮 The fact that SU, a native of Hiroshima, is singing this song now has a strong message of peace! The fact that SU, a native of Hiroshima, is singing this song now has a strong message of peace!😢😊 I cry, especially at concerts...
you had said a comment that is my opinion also. i also can't wait to see both new songs live. how many bands are like that. when a new song comes out we are anticipating it live because it is Babymetal and that is where they shine. someone had commented on this song saying Brand New Day 2.0 but i dont think so. this song to me shows again how mature Su's voice has gotten to be since beginning of 2021. its not heavy but still love this. another comment was Babymetal has a song for whatever mood you are in and i totally agree with that. just feels positive vibes to me even though dark undertones.
Yeah totally agree, totally different, BND is a song composed by MEGMETAL, this one is by YUPPEMETAL, plus BND got City Pop elements, this one doesn't. The only thing that makes them comparable probably is the guitar section, but that was from Polyphia's guitarists but even with that for me sounds different. Both are enjoyable and great songs in their own way for sure.🦊👍
“Rock”…. Exactly!!!! That intro is going to get smashed by Hideki & Barone in live events. Two straight tracks showcasing the maturity of Su’s vocals. Another reactor said this song is more mainstream. I disagree it’s simply more BabyMetal and I’m all for it!!!
◼ ◻ 🖤 🤍 Some folks are disappointed this isn't heavier, and are missing how good the song is. Can't wait to see a live performance with choreography, live Kami Band backing, etc. And I'm really looking forward to seeing Moa sing this one with Su.
That silhouette of the girl with the umbrella..I was hoping it was an anime music video with Su and Moa, but I still love the visualization of this, especially it cutting to a fully coloured picture of the tree growing out of the destruction
Saying i was a Babymetal Fan would be a Lie but still...Without them i would ve NEVER discovered Band Maid and Nemophila. For that Reason they are Special to me. My Introduction to Japanese Metal.
By the time we get to the album release I am gonna be destroyed if thing’s keep going at this rate. Love this song from the first listen, and yes this sounds like it could be the new “brand new day” live!!!!! Fucking amazing
This one is growing on me. I wasn't too sure about it on first listen. Mostly because I am just so over hyped for BABYMETAL and in my eyes they can do no wrong so I actually get nervous before a new song. Like, what if I don't like it? How could that happen!?! I don't want to be let down by my favorite band. So this one.... was ok the first listen, but after a few more listens it is growing on me more and more. I can close my eyes and see Su and Moa absolutely owning the stage again. And we all know how much better this will be LIVE. With Kami Band an the girl wowing us visually as well. I too hope that they have a song or two that is just fun and makes us all smile like idiots the entire time. 🤘🦊🤘
Back after 3 weeks and yup, this is one of my favorite songs now. The line "No matter how long the night, the morning will arrive" hits me hard after something personal in my life happened. So this song is extra special even more so now. 🤘🦊🤘❤
Great reaction. Love the enthusiasm, joy and happiness you are projecting. Been a BM fan for 3 years. Started with great drums and solid heavy guitars and then shifts, typical Babymetal. This is my second listening to the song. There is A LOT to unpack, process, digest here. This will take me some time to process which is a good sign it's a great song. Very glad you will tackle the lyrics. To fully appreciate Babymetal you really need to understand the lyrics. Keep up the good work and looking forward to the lyrics analysis.
I've liked and appreciated Babymetal, but never loved them...until now. These last two songs hit me right in the sweet spot. Can't wait for more! Side note: am I hearing a Harmonizer on the guitar tone?
This song. Absolute 🔥🔥🔥🔥 A song about sadness and overcoming it. Just by the title you can tell - "Monochrome" as in "monochrome skies" or "gray skies". It's "Brand New Day" all over again and I'm all for it.
I bought Divine Attack the moment it came out. I think I will wait until the album comes out for this one. It may grow on me after listening to it a few times but for now, not my favorite. There's probably 40 songs I prefer from them in front of this one. But I'm sure it will be much better when/if they play it live with the Kami band, who will put their spin on it. Go ahead, hate on me. I can take it 😀
From what I understand this song could be about the destruction and rebirth of her hometown of Hiroshima, and the tree is representation of one that survived the atomic bomb
I try to explain to friends and family when I get emotional listening to a song or my hairs raise.. but I just can't. They ask if they make me sad, but no! It's the complete opposite.
No matter how much I love their songs from the Headbanger era, their image of those times, so to speak, classic Babymetal (damn, no matter how funny it sounds, given the age of the girls), but I understand that they have to move on. Both in music and in aesthetics and in the visual series. PS But I also really liked the new songs, I just can't quite rebuild yet (their previous image is so firmly entrenched: Su, Moa and Yui, ballet tutus, black and red outfits and a crazy mix of metal and anime manga pop music)
I agree and disagree. I think they can move forward without moving on...if that makes sense. I ultimately do like this song quite a bit but I think there is a way for them to "mature" or adapt with their growth literally and figuratively without completely dropping certain elements that people imo falsely attribute purely to youth. For example, I freakin love the band Hanabie and they are exactly the same age as Su and Moa. Their music is very heavy yet they still throw in tons of "kawaii" elements that resemble what BM did in their first two albums and they pull it off perfectly. I'm not saying this topic exclusively revolves around those elements but that is usually the default point people refer to. At the end of the day, I will most likely enjoy their new upcoming album to some degree no matter what but I do get the feeling that the band and some fans are a bit too willing to act like age is forcing them to change things that they don't actually have to chance unless they truly just want to no matter what. Because its more than just the Kawaii stuff, it's the overall vibe and style of how their earlier music was more of an event than just standard songs. That to me is missing with both of the new tracks. They are enjoyable music but they do lack a lot of the theatrics and unique creativity that defined early BM and never needs to go away at any age.
@@Bones12x2 You can't even imagine how similar my feelings and thoughts about the new material from Babymetal are to yours (according to the Google translator). Let's hope that they will be able to find a balance and a middle ground. And on the way to new musical heights, they will not lose their unique style, image and branded chips. In an effort to bring in the "new", they will not forget about the "old".
@@MsDinazavr agreed. My fear is that Koba is trying too hard to appeal to too many people. The things that made people hate Babymetal in the past are the same things that made them a success. As much as I enjoy Divine Attack and Monochrome... They arent songs that produce super strong reactions from anyone that isnt already a fan. I felt an emotinal reaction to Monochrome because I am already a fan of Su and you could feel her emotion in the lyrics but otherwise its a pretty straight forward song. Its perfectly fine for some of the songs to be like that... But I just hope that with the other tracks they add in some things that make you go WOW... Thats unique !... Even if some people hate it. When Babymetal pisses people off... Thats usually a good thing. So no matter what Babymetal does as they "grow" the only thing that I would consider an actual failure would be to produce an entire album where they sound generic or they sound safe or they sound like just a normal band with Su singing... I want reactions from people to use words like... CRAZY, WILD, CLEVER, STUPID, WIERD, AMAZING, FUN, DRAMATIC, TERRIBLE, SILLY, POWERFUL, CONFUSING.... any of those words, even the bad ones are a million times better than havjng no reaction at all or just going... Meh.... 🤷♂️
@@Bones12x2 what do you mean by theatrics? We haven't even seen them performed yet.monochrome with the package of that video and the song seems pretty theatrical.i like it much better than DA....I think part of the problem with them sounding like just songs is because koba is taking songs from their catalogue and reimagining them because "they are those songs from a different universe" like DA is ROR and monochrome is NRNR I think this will be all ten songs so we are actually hearing songs we've heard before just delivered in a different way
I personally like the open spaces and the pause in this song. Sometimes an absence is more powerful than the loudest note. This is going to be a fun ride. Enjoyed hearing it for the first time with you Alan . Peace
GUYS i watched like 22 Polkadot Stingray Videos during the Past 7 days Please react to the Song JET its really Jazzy and relaxing and i really Love her Voice in that One.
I am unfortunately going to get some hate for this. I really like the song and its better balanced than Divine Attack, but, the "oh- wo-ohh, oh wo-ohhh-ohhh" is massively over repeated in the latter parts and doesn't really fit the song. To be brutally honest they need only have sung the second part "Oh wo-ohhh-ohhh" and that would have suited better, but, even then it would need to be used sparingly. So unfortunately to me the last quarter of the song started leaning towards the cringy section in BMC (BxMxC)... "Wanna wanna wanna be, wanna wanna wanna be, wanna wanna wanna wanna wanna wanna wanna be Want some want some want some beat, want some want some want some beat Want some want some want some want some want some want some want some". Western music, likes to do a lot of repetitive stuff to make songs catchy, to get it stuck in your head, but it doesn't stand up to repeated listening, it just puts you off.
I'm still on a journey with this song. At first I was a bit disappointed. I loved the intro part, but I was a little put off by the part you characterized as hardrock. I got the impression you felt like that as well, it felt a little weak after the intro. I'm still not a big fan of the verses. I hear people praising Su's vocals in the song, but for me it's not reflected in the verses. They feel a little shallow to me. The chorus is where I got turned 180 degrees. I didn't feel much the first time, but the more I listen to it, the more it hits me emotionally. By now I have dropped quite a few tears, just like you. The chorus (and the line leading up to it) are really showing Su's strength. But I will also say that I'm still not a fan of the "oh wo oh" part in the chorus. Which is a pity, since that's probably the most BABYMETAL element. But I believe it doesn't quite fit the emotional sound (and message). But it doesn't bother me as much as it did in the beginning. Following the lyrics also added to the song growing on me and revealing the emotional nature. From what I read, it seems to be about nuclear bombs (which I probably wouldn't have gotten myself, I'm very dim when it comes to these things). It makes even more of an impact knowing that Su is from Hiroshima.
I don't know about this one. It's not a bad song but after that really heavy and eerie intro...that "rock" guitar throws me off. But it will probably grow on me. Also took me some time to appreciate Divine Attack. Edit: Yeah...it's a banger
I don't know what to make of this song. If I leave it for a while and then come back to it, it hits me differently each iteration. There are some familiar things from other Babymetal songs, too many?
When I see the picture of the girl in this video and understand the lyrics it reminds me of the Anime called Irozuku Sekai no Ashita Kara: A Glimmer of Hope in a Monochrome World. A color blind girl who lives in a monochrome world.
A great reaction. This is an emotional song with probably reference to what happened in Hiroshima. The 'monochrome firework' refers to the nuclear explosion, IMO. Again, will let someone more knowledgeable explain this 😉

Her song always makes me cry and fulfills my soul by the God blessing .
Same here!
I've listened to it many many times.
I really like the song of Su between the verse and the chorus. There she sang straight with some kind of breakdown in her voice.
That begging rift with that rockish vibe 🤘🤘🤘 man that hit me
I love your reaction, Alan, more than Japan.
Baby metal songs are healing songs. When I retire back in 2014. Karate song keep me going.
🤘🦊🤘
It's a badass track
It would be sad if the new album is completely serious, as you say, although I'm sure Su and Koba have thought of all those things.
Holy crap, that makes a really horrifying sense. Especially given Su being from Hiroshima. This album is going to wreck me, I can already tell.
i didnt know awadama fever was about food lol

@@naawr2797 mint flavored bubblegum time machine... close enough. 😅🤘🦊🤘
Welcome aboard! Man honesty is double edged since I get hate for it lol Join us live sometime on twitch.tv/dicodec or our discord!
When you read the lyrics, you can't take it easy, the world.
Don't cry Alan, I cried too.
Babymetal's music videos seem to have a strong affinity with anime.
Their drummer might be the most underrated drummer on earth.
Metal + Hard Rock + Jpop = Monochrome
Alan, you're not alone at feeling the emotional impact of this song, just sayin'. "During the dusk of Ragnarok, what are we to see? No matter how long the night, the morning will arrive."
That's the thing about this band, they always inspire a positive message.
I would love to see them play the entire album live with one of their massive productions like Pink Floyd did with the Wall.
😮 The fact that SU, a native of Hiroshima, is singing this song now has a strong message of peace! The fact that SU, a native of Hiroshima, is singing this song now has a strong message of peace!😢😊 I cry, especially at concerts...
May the fox god bless eric so he can recover and react to this new song, im curious what he thinks of this one.😊
you had said a comment that is my opinion also. i also can't wait to see both new songs live. how many bands are like that. when a new song comes out we are anticipating it live because it is Babymetal and that is where they shine. someone had commented on this song saying Brand New Day 2.0 but i dont think so. this song to me shows again how mature Su's voice has gotten to be since beginning of 2021. its not heavy but still love this. another comment was Babymetal has a song for whatever mood you are in and i totally agree with that. just feels positive vibes to me even though dark undertones.
平和を願う曲に聴こえますね!
Im in love cant wait for album to come out omgggg 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈
Ragnarok and Ygdrassil. The end of the world, and its new beginning in a dying world of cold and rain and ice.
“Rock”…. Exactly!!!! That intro is going to get smashed by Hideki & Barone in live events. Two straight tracks showcasing the maturity of Su’s vocals. Another reactor said this song is more mainstream. I disagree it’s simply more BabyMetal and I’m all for it!!!
🤘🦊🤘
I doubt Barone he's in a new band
it’s definitely more mainstream but that’s not a bad thing
◼ ◻ 🖤 🤍
Some folks are disappointed this isn't heavier, and are missing how good the song is.
Can't wait to see a live performance with choreography, live Kami Band backing, etc.
And I'm really looking forward to seeing Moa sing this one with Su.
It's very Japanese. Japan loves drums. Sounds a little Trident. I love it. It's very very good. They should add Junna. I'd be for that.
Man... I thought it was heavy AF 😅
nice reaction🦊 I thought it was a very beautiful song❤
It is very beautiful!
First of all, that shirt's hella dope! And yes, my favorite part about this song is Moa's backing vocals. (Seems like it's mostly her)
Thank you!
world peace !!!
Hi from San Francisco California

Goddamn her vocals kill me...but in a Good way. Just that Part from 2:44 to 2:56
Great reaction 🤘 Absolutely in love with this song, it hits all the feels🦊❤️ Oh and ya the live of this song is going to be EPIC!
So good I got another video about it on the way

This song is really... way more complex than I expected 😅, nice to see they still dare a lot.
Expect the unexpected, you won't be disappointed.🤘🏻🦊⚡
The more you hear this song the more it will grow on you, especially when you put the lyrics in context with it
I was already feeling the lyrics when I was checking it out
@@dicodec I think they will do really well out of this song especially in Japan
True..
Being Japanese, I agree with you totally. And this continues along Babymetal's philosophy of taking one to a higher state.
Yeah, same here. I didn’t liked it that much at first but now I really love it. ❤🤘🔥🦊
Yes there is a harmonizer at certain parts!
Rock on guys! Can't wait! 🦊🤘🔥

雨後の雫のきらめきのような曲です。
This song. Absolute 🔥🔥🔥🔥 A song about sadness and overcoming it. Just by the title you can tell - "Monochrome" as in "monochrome skies" or "gray skies". It's "Brand New Day" all over again and I'm all for it.
Simply beautiful.
Thank you Alan 🤘😥

I bought Divine Attack the moment it came out. I think I will wait until the album comes out for this one. It may grow on me after listening to it a few times but for now, not my favorite.
There's probably 40 songs I prefer from them in front of this one. But I'm sure it will be much better when/if they play it live with the Kami band, who will put their spin on it.
Go ahead, hate on me. I can take it 😀
SU & MOA! the only thing I miss from these last two songs is decent guitar solo, but otherwise they are perfect! Fantastic songs!
I had that shirt
Kitsune Up!!!!!!!!!!!!
HIGE-METAL!!! Only OG's know...
Very true we appreciate you! We gotta out those titles back up!
PS
But I also really liked the new songs, I just can't quite rebuild yet (their previous image is so firmly entrenched: Su, Moa and Yui, ballet tutus, black and red outfits and a crazy mix of metal and anime
manga pop music)
Kinda Taylor Swift chorus. Which is fine. Su's voice live on this will be great, can't wait!
We haven't even seen them performed yet.monochrome with the package of that video and the song seems pretty theatrical.i like it much better than DA....I think part of the problem with them sounding like just songs is because koba is taking songs from their catalogue and reimagining them because "they are those songs from a different universe" like DA is ROR
and monochrome is NRNR I think this will be all ten songs so we are actually hearing songs we've heard before just delivered in a different way
I really need to buy this! Thanks Alan!
Of course
I personally like the open spaces and the pause in this song. Sometimes an absence is more powerful than the loudest note. This is going to be a fun ride. Enjoyed hearing it for the first time with you Alan . Peace
Ok the 2 nd Listen Won me Over if all of the Songs are THIS Good i am getting the Album
"Wanna wanna wanna be, wanna wanna wanna be, wanna wanna wanna wanna wanna wanna wanna be
Want some want some want some beat, want some want some want some beat
Want some want some want some want some want some want some want some".
Western music, likes to do a lot of repetitive stuff to make songs catchy, to get it stuck in your head, but it doesn't stand up to repeated listening, it just puts you off.
Where you get that shirt bro
Freaking on sale at hot topic! They were trying to get rid of them all. And I got the two they had there
So good ❤

Great reaction, i love babymetal, other wise, where did you buy that t-shirt?
The guitar kind of had a Queensryche vibe to me. Good stuff.
We just come here to watch you cry.
Awesome reaction alan.
Love the new album. To me the star of the show is the drummer. Whoever it is does an incredible job

A great reaction. This is an emotional song with probably reference to what happened in Hiroshima. The 'monochrome firework' refers to the nuclear explosion, IMO. Again, will let someone more knowledgeable explain this 😉
