Hi Brad. Good video. However, the manual says NOT to screw down the hydraulic fluid dipstick when checking the level. Just sit it on top of the fill hole. Otherwise your level will be too low. Also, I would have liked info about the breather cap and getting air out of the lines. Rich

Hello Brad, that has to be the cleanest hydraulic oil I have ever seen changed, but necessary none the less, now you are set for many many hours of run time, I need to do the same, Thanks for the leg work on filter part number, I was sort of dreading that research time, You did good!!!

Always check the hose clamps on each end of that clear hose! They are known to come loose.

Great video. I have the same splitter. I have done about 30 cords with it. I serviced mine last fall. Good info about the hydro oil filter. I got mine at tractor supply when I bought it, knowing that I wouldn't have to run back for it after 25 hours of use. That filter was a bigger to get off. first I broke a harbor freight filter wrench, then fought with the biggest set of channel locks I have to get it off, careful not to break the mount housing. My 15 year old son learned some new words that day.

I just bent my oil filter wrench trying to get the filter off. How did you finally get it off? Did the big channel locks work without damaging anything? Thanks this thing is pi**ing me off big time.

I don’t know if you noticed or not but if you look at that bottom of the block on the engine there looks to be like a drain plug on each side of the block and the one on the left side looks like it is clear to drop oil straight down off of the engine.

I have a County Line 30 that's 3 years old. I use Norwegian Maple lmost exclusively for firewood in a custom modified [by me] Earth Stove because it burns clean. The splitter does a FAIR job on 20 -30" rounds but gets extremely hot when you dog it hard & fast. The Kohler 9.5 needs better cooling and this thing also needs a good hydraulic oil cooler in the worst way. Basically they are a cheap "made in China" piece of crap that will barely do the job for a premium price, and almost ALL splitters are carbon copies of each other. Those 4 way splitters are a royal joke for big rounds and I always use the splitter with the rail in the vertical position,....unless you like to lift 100# rounds all day long [dumb a- - -ses use it horizontally on small trash wood]. Weld you a bigger 16" x 20" cold rolled steel foot onto the POS factory installed foot for a big improvement for big rounds of wood. Also needs a good trailer tongue jack for lifting this beast onto a 2" ball.

Replacement hydraulic oil filter for #60001
    Fram
    Part# P1653A
    Or # P1654A
I had a hard time finding a filter for it so I ended up calling YTL international and they gave me those #s for a Fram filter so I can get it locally.

Just picked up this same splitter the other day. Same situation. The guy only had it for a short time. The paint is hardly worn off. Wish I only paid $600 ($1150 I think it was a great deal considering they are 1699 now). Hit it with the power washer and did a service on it. I'm not a fan of the dipsticks on this unit. I missed the part in the manual where it said to let it overflow.I fiddled with it for a little bit. I'm pretty impressed with its performance so far. I'm gonna order up an hour meter for it.
I've been watching your channel for a little bit now. Great content!

You know my step-dad has a Huskee 22ton thats about 20yrs old.. split 10+ cord on average every year, and so far he has NEVER changed the Hydraulic oil or the motor oil.. engine needs replaced but only due to rust and the top falling off, but still runs great you just gotta start it real funny. It sat outside the entire time uncovered and uncleaned too.

Thanks for the tip on the hydraulic filter! and doing the research for us! Just bought my first log splitter and wouldn't have thought to pay attention to the difference between the micron filtration, but totally makes since. I paint cars and with paint you have to have proper micron filter to filter certain metallic paints and thicknesses of different types of paint. Thanks for the video!

This joker wasted 6 gallons of fine hydraulic oil. The splitter also needs a longer tongue, better bearings with greasers, and larger tires so it can be pulled at highway speeds instead of being limited to a max speed of 45mph. Universal hydraulic oil filters are readily available almost everywhere = NAPA, Rural King, etc. Hydraulic oil needs very little filtration anyway, unlike engine oil.

I have a county line 22 ton. It's still splits and I believe has full power, but once it warms up it starts blasting hydraulic fluid out of the cap. Could this be because the breather cap is bad, not breathing and then pressurizes? Could it be an air leak?
There's no other visible leaks, The fluid looks clean, and it still works but once it heats up it starts blasting like a mofo out of that cap.

    • @FirewoodattheFurnace
      @FirewoodattheFurnace  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Check your fluid level. If it gets a little low in can cause the intake to draw in air. This causes the oil to get bubbly or foamy which takes up more space in the tank. If the volume of foam or bubbles build in the tank it can cause it to come out of the vent

Great how to video on servicing your log splitter. One suggestion I can make that eliminates the guess work about when to service your splitter. You can buy cheap "hour meters" on amazon to track your splitters operating time. These meters run about $5 each. I just installed one on my splitter and they work great. No battery or power hookup is required. You just wrap the inductive pickup wire around your spark plug wire a few times. Then double stick tape or screws to mount the display on you engine. Whenever the spark plug is firing the meter tracks the time.

Maintenance goes along way to dependable service. They are a good splitter and I have only had one issue popup with mine. I tow mine behind a tractor or side x side to where I down the trees . Make sure to turn the gas off if you tow it as it appears that bouncing around a little while in tow the float may stick and flood the crankcase with gas. Mine would start fine but run bad and stall. The first thing I checked was the oil and low and behold gas in the oil.

Why are there two oil fill plugs on the engine? Two yellow fill plugs. Thanks

Hi Brad. Thank you for doing this video. Even though I have a Yardworks 25-ton wood splitter, the setup of my machine and yours is about 95% the same. One of the BEST video on how to service and fill all the fluids. May I make 1 suggestion. On the side where your Hydraulic filter is, you might want to have a wood or metal board about 1/4 thick, just in case a log falls off the machine. This way it won't do damage to the filter or oil lines. Again, THANK YOU.

Great video as always, but you forgot to change inner hydraulic filter in the hydraulic tank.

Thanks for showing us how it’s done. Routine maintenance on various types of equipment can go a long way in productivity and long useful life which saves a lot of money in the long run.

Good maintenance. Some people run their equipment into the ground and wonder why their stuff doesn't last long or longer than it should. Good vid. WST

When putting the air filter back on I noticed you put the wrong wing nut on watch the video and you'll see when you took them off you put them back the wrong way

I have the same splitter I purchased in 2017 new at tractor supply. I’ve had a few issues while splitting 200+ cords with it. Ive had the entire engine fill up with water when I left it outside uncovered and don’t know how it gets in (my friends did the same thing). Ive had the engine quit running twice now and both times it was a lose rocker arm. Tightened it up and still going good. I also broke the control valve where it was sticking forward or back. I called service and they sent a new one as we’ll as a new filter just in case. For the money it’s a good splitter and has helped fund my eastonmade 12-22 on order.

Thats great. Thanks so much for the feedback. Those are things I will keep an eye on. Sounds like your plan is similar to mine. Definitely looking to upgrade in the future. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

Glad it was helpful. A good rule of thumb for hydraulic oil is about every 100 hours

Time for a Drainzit Oil Changing Aid..., i.e., an extension hose with cap. Also, it's a good idea to close the choke before removing the air filter to keep debris out of the carb. Then vacuum the filter housing and carb intake to remove the dust and debris... Closing the choke is something I picked up from my Game of Logging trainer in regards to chainsaws.
