I've loved this movie since I first saw it in 2000, when my local second-run theater played it for a whole week. I discovered the works of Pedro Almodovar in '97 or so, while I was a university student majoring in Spanish. My professors, who were from places like Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Puerto Rico, and Paraguay, were fans of his work and would talk about his films or play short clips from his films in the context of class. I was really happy to see the film win the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, since it was such a personal film for the director. Every technical aspect was on point, to the cinematography to the gorgeous soundtrack. The film should also be commended for its trans and LGBT+ representation, including not only trans characters but also the lesbian relationship between Huma and her younger co-star. My favorite part was the part that Joseph mentioned, where La Agrado speaks to a theater audience about what it has cost her to become a woman, even taking that literally, honestly giving the price of each cosmetic procedure she has had done. The dedication at the end to all mothers, all women, all men who have wanted to become women, etc. is just fantastic. All About My Mother is a true work of art, one that all film lovers with an open mind should see at least once.
I love PA's work, its so challenging and beautiful. He never stops inspiring me. I grew up in a insane Catholic back round. He is a life force for joy and honesty. Master film maker. I do not know my mother or father, the government in Ireland took us from our own people and put us as children with others. Those parents were seen as bad too they worked hard for us. Its a nightmare to be ripped from your mother. Some people do not get the damage. Anyway love this film and love you both. Respect from Ireland xx I will stop crying nowxx
I think its overrated. Talk to Her blew me away to the level its one of my alltime favs. watched pain and glory, Julieta other than these. Yet to watch a lot of his films. Surely id put this one at the bottom.
