This panel's responses were heartbreaking. I felt like Rich Wilkerson Jr. had great intent with this panel and led with the hopes the answers would be better than they were. Some failures:
    1) "What are we saved from?" - Judah said 'ourselves.' WHAT?! God saved us as individuals, so if God saves us as individuals, are we saved from the self God saves? No! We're saved from the wrath of God that is on the sin we've committed, which fills our souls without Jesus's payment applied to our lives.
    2) "What is sin?" Simply put, it's disobedience. Bianca said sin was something that separates us from God, but why not define it as disobedience and breaking God's commands?
    3) "How are we saved?" Veach said salvation is a gift through grace, and while true, the question was 'how,' and he never shared something as simple as Romans 10:9. He could have even gone deeper and explained Jesus's atoning sacrifice and imputation of Jesus's righteousness to us.
4-rest of the video) Give me theology, not stories and cliches. This did nothing to explain the work of sanctification or the Trinity.
As a pastor, this breaks my heart; I would never have passed ordination with these answers. So many of these answers came back to a foundation of 'self-help' and not giving ourselves fully to God. Skilled speakers but lacking in theology. Here's the problem: this comment will be seen by some as 'religion' and hate, but it's not. Think about this: Let's build a house. The foundation is most important, and if there are cracks in it, the house will crumble. These are foundational questions, and there are not cracks; there's nothing there; no concrete was poured. I pray these folks left and studied to show themselves approved.

This seems like a very reformed perspective. Nothing they said is unChristian or heresy. Plenty of these positions have been held by respected leaders in the Church, some of whom were native speakers in the Greek that the New Testament was written in, for thousands of years (Origen, Gregory of Nyssa, etc). Even C.S. Lewis denied the concept of Penal Substitution.

Well said. I would add that we are also saved from the devil, adversary, the father of lies.... Jesus took the wrath of God on our behalf by being handed over to the consequences of sin (judgement, death), yes, but he is also the only human being to never be deceived by the lies of the evil one. We are saved also from deception and lies through the life of Christ which is our example of how to truly live.
and none of this was mentioned.

You are saved from Hell. You are saved from God’s wrath. Oh this hurts. It is so simple to say. The day I realized that I was a sinner who needs saving and that my good works don’t cut it. When I realized that there is nothing good enough about me to dodge the reality of hell every thing changed. When I genuinely began to understand my sin and understand how worthy I am of hell is when I finally began to grasp how big the love of God truly is. What a great cost Jesus paid to save my soul. To purchase me. To adopt me. When you understand that you understand God’s love

You could really see this entire panel outside of Tennyson not understanding (or refusing to go there) what Rich was looking for. Praying for Vous Church, hoping this time bears much fruit and that they will lean into what Rich was striving for.

One of the main issues in the church today: people with the title of Pastor joke about how "deep" very basic theological questions are. You guys are the TEACHERS. It's not humility to brag about how much deep study you are lacking - it's foolishness. Example: We are NOT "saved from ourselves." We are saved from God's wrath. Speak the truth in the fullness of truth or do not claim the title of Pastor.
I know that may seem harsh, but this has to eventually stop in our cultural moment. The stage you guys have is too large.

Exactly. Amen brother. In Acts 2 we see the example that led thousands to repentance and it was the the truth- the full truth that pierced their hearts. The Word is enough. The gospel is enough. Jesus is enough. This lack of reverence for the Lord is sad and scary because of the level of influence that they have.

    • @jongrand

The Father sent His Son to save us from.... Himself? That's not very Biblical. Yes, ministers can get creative in how they package theology in order to be relevant, in the same way Christ used parables, even if we may not like their more modern examples. For your definition, however, we need to be clear on what God's wrath is. The wages of sin is death. It is the same death Christ experienced on the cross. He didn't die from loss of blood, either. He experienced the wrath of God. And God's wrath is eternal separation from those who choose to no longer remain-"they are like a branch that withers away" (John 15:6). "They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power" (2 Thes. 1:9). And eternal destruction is not eternal destroying, because that too isn't biblical. Both root and branch are ultimately no more (Malachi 4:1).

@@jongrand we are literally saved from the wrath of God. The "cup" mentioned by Jesus when He prayed to the Father is the wrath of God. In the OT the Cup is a reference to thw wrath of God. They simply should not have a platform until they go back to seminary, and learn how to carefully, thoughtfully and prayerfully exegete God’s Word. They’re trivialising and watering down the effects of sin on humanity and the wrath and Sovereignty of God. Underpinning their entire thinking is a gospel of ‘me’, not Christ. I get the joking about not paying attention in Bible school or not having a super deep theological knowledge, but man that is not setting a good example for the church. If you just wanna be a Christian motivational speaker do it. Teachers ought to understand and know the Word and not be confounded by simple questions

Ruslan brought me here. This was painful to watch. This entire panel except Pastor Rich and the Dr. need to go do a deep dive into scripture again. This was extremely exposing and showed how far the church is getting away from the meat of the gospel. Praying for these Pastors to get back to the word of God and gain fresh revelation of His Word. Discernment is increasing in the bride of Christ and we're starting to see straight through and discern those that are truly walking in the revelation of who Jesus is and living it daily. Pastors aren't going to be able to hide behind their pulpits and popularity anymore.

If I could be completely transparent, I clicked this video so that I could have ammunition for why these preachers and teachers aren’t worth listening to… When I look in, I see fame, wealth, beauty, and relevance packaged up neatly into some hip, trending pastor who has more numerical following than the risen Lord they profess and teach of. And let’s be honest, no one really cares about my opinion or uncharitable view upon these men or women. But if I may, I just want to say how absolutely impressed, encouraged, and unequivocally edified this video was, and these pastors and teachers were for my heart, mind, and soul. The way in which the Gospel of Christ was so articulately, and yet understandably displayed, was such a beautiful example that I really have some growing to do in the area of charity and humility. Do I agree 100% with how everything was teased out? No. This is not, and should never be my aim, though. I came here to poke fun and raise my nose, and left on my knees before the one, true God who calls me “son.” I repent for my arrogance, and thank you for your faithfulness. Eager to watch more. Thank you.

Romans 1 wrath is not the cause but the consequence of the problem = idolatry. Three times Paul says wrath is being handed over to the consequence of putting creation over creator.
Paul therefore goes on to declare that salvation does more to save us from wrath (the consequence) but to change me from the inside out (the cause). His power takes me from slave to sin to instrument of righteousness.
So isn’t “saved from self” as good or potentially a better answer than “wrath” to “saved from what?” The full work of salvation is not just get me out of hell, it makes me a new creation. Not just to fix the “wrath problem” but to fix the “idol problem”.

    • @biblemeetsasianletstalk1036
      @biblemeetsasianletstalk1036 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Well this would be true if the problem of idolatry is conveyed through the clip. Sadly while idolatry is a bondage to self it is a worship problem... which means the sinfulness of sin is rooted in the holiness and worth of God. But that is not clear destination the clip seems to bring most of its audience.
I think the reason you are able to point it towards idolatry is the influence of scripture and biblically sound preachers, i suppose. But Judah Smith's bent is on a false distinction between law and grace living that is derived from antinomian teachers like Joseph Prince. Thus the frequent echo of emphasizing the problem of mentioning the practice of the believer... not seeing that the practice proves one's profession and is an important fruit in Paul's writings as well.

It’s not a License to burn up in a burning building just because you see a path cleared!!!
That’s not how Christ works!!! “You will go on to DO GREATER THINGS!!!!”
“All men will be judged according to 👉🏽THEIR WORKS👈🏽” NOT THEIR BELIEFS!!!!
If you believe in Christ you will attempt to walk as he walked!!! Not celebrate him doing everything so you don’t have to do anything that is not scriptural!!!! Saved from real time death penalty!? YES!!!
Saved from the second death by way of God’s judgement!? NO!!!! YOUR WORKS DETERMINE THIS AS A RESULT OF YOU USING SALVATION AS YOUR STARTING LINE!!!
Salvation is NOT A FINISH-LINE!!! It is the starting line by which all things in the state of our world through the blood of Christ 👉🏽Can 👈🏽 be built!!!
Are you doing the work AFTER salvation or simply focused on the fact that salvation has been offered!?
That’s like sitting in a burning building in celebrating the fact that Christ cleared a path until you burn up having never got up and walked out of it!

    The Gospel:
    Plain and
    Simple
“But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent
beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your
minds should be corrupted from the simplicity
that is in Christ.” - 2 Corithians 11:3
Ask someone today if they are saved and
you will most likely hear responses like these:
“I have accepted Jesus into my heart.” Or “I
have made him Lord of my life.” “I’ve been
baptized.” “I said a prayer.” Sounds all good
and churchy don’t it; but it is difficult to de-termine whether or not a person actually
knows the gospel that saves them. These use￾less phrases don’t describe a thing about what
the gospel is and has left a devastating effect
of people not knowing what it is that they are
saved from nor how they are saved; which
leaves a more serious effect of people ques￾tioning their salvation.
Let’s not muddy the simplicity of salva￾tion that is in Christ with vague church
sounding phrases that do not communicate
anything. But rather present God’s word with
clarity and assuredness. So here is the gospel:
    plain and simple.
Sin was passed upon all men by one man
Adam, and death is a consequence of this sin
(Rom 5:12). Mankind has an eternal destiny of
condemnation and wrath - Hell - because of
this sin (Rom 6:23). No matter what good
works one might do we are still found sinners
in the sight of our Creator God. And all un￾righteousness and those who follow get in￾dignation and wrath. We cannot be found
righteous for by God’s law we are found sin￾ners (Rom 3:19-20). If we have broken even
one law we are found guilty.
It is for this reason of not being able to
create our own righteousness and being born
in a sinful flesh that we need a savior (Titus
3:5). Christ is that Savior, God manifested in
the flesh, sinless, died in our place on a cross
2000 years ago. Taking upon him the wrath
and judgement that was intended for us sin￾ners. And it is through his bloodshed, burial,
and resurrection on our behalf that we are
able to have peace with God and forgiveness
of our sins (1 Cor 15:1-4, Col 3:14). This good
news is unto all but only those that believe in
it are made righteous in Christ (Romans
    3:22).
It is then after we have heard this good
news of Christ’s righteousness available to us freely, that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit
and we are now part of Christ’s body the
    church (Eph 1:13)
There is nothing that we need to do, no
good works that are required, and no bad
works that can separate us from our new po￾sition in Christ (Romans 8:35-39).
Faith and belief in this information from
    God’s word is the gospel.
The gospel is not accepting Jesus into your
heart. The gospel is not making him lord of
your life, it is not saying a prayer and it is not
    being baptized with water.
So next time someone asks you if you are
saved. Give them the clear assured answer
“Yes! And let me tell you why
