      Man, you took the words right out my mouth!!
      Back when i was 8,9,10yrs old i had an Uncanny X-Men mail subscription(pre-post gambits 1st appearance) during Jims run and his style clicked with me(and gambit *quickly* became my favorite) right away!
      Shit, when Image comics hit the scene, the game *completey changed.*
      Readin *every* comic on Image, skatin, listenin to WuTang and figurin out how to get a dime of dirt weed was my early teens in a nutshell.

    Jim Lee is one of my superheroes. As a poor Asian kid I never had role models and I looked to people who didn't look like me and never felt accepted by people who looked like them but seeing a confident Asian American man like Jim do his thing is really motivating. I want to be that someday for other Asian kids as Dumb and Jim are to us and to many others.

    9:18 , this right here, is mind blowing. I'm a visual artist, had my interest peaked with illustrating as a kid and that right there makes so much sense.
    I've always been hyper-aware of my self and others. Whether that be how I'm standing, sitting, or generally existing. I've just never internalised it like that.
    Always some dope guests on here. Thank you Dumb!

    23:18 I had this tape. I watched it constantly. They kept hinting at their upcoming Image comics secretly and I thought it was funny and rude at the same time since their boss was right there with them.

    Sorry Jim. As a Marvel fan who loves Batman, I would say that it is Not Batman 89 nor Raimi Spider-Man that started this Superhero movie explosion. It is and always will be Chris Reeve Superman. 'Nuff said.

    Damnnnnn!!! You got Jim on???? Ask Jim when will he start bringing in some ASIAN MALE superheroes? We need some ASIAN MALE superhero representation here. There are way enough White and Black superheroes already. Lets work on Asian male ones now.

      He recently did a series called 'Immortal Men' and it features an Asian man that he created named Caden Park (aka Mindstrike). It got cancelled and only lasted 6 issues but I think it's worth checking out.

    • @TheYnotThat
      @TheYnotThat 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeremiahpark233 VERY COOL!! Thanks, I'll look into it. We need Asian Male superheroes that are along side main White characters for now you know like Captain American and that Black guy, Bats and Robin...etc. Sometimes you just can't jump ahead to having Asian Male superhero as the lead yet. We've got to ease in slowly first.

    Well, I hate to be "that guy" who goes there, but I feel compelled to. I genuinely feel like someone has to explain this. When he asked Jim Lee about the resistance to changing established characters in order to reflect more ethnically diversity, here's the honest truth....
    For starters, comics is a genre whose market is 68% white males. Just, know that now. Next, over the course of the past decade, white males have increasingly been made to feel like they are under attack, and for no good reason. It's political scapegoating where everyone is told all their life's problems have one cause: old white men from history who are dead now. It's a daily occurrence, and it's incoming from all sides-- society, politics, and pop culture.
    Nowadays, white men are constantly being told they're what is wrong with society. That because white men from the past did _______ to _______ group, all white men must answer for it now. But when you're a white male who's alive today, such as myself, we look around and say to ourselves this is bullshit because we know we've never done anything to anyone. We know that we, along with our parents & grandparents, come from working class groups who had to work to get anything in life ourselves, the same as everyone else. We know that we never had anyone give us opportunities or rewards based on someone looking at us and seeing that we're white males. We saw the way our parents had to struggle throughout their whole lives too. The constant barrage of anti-White maleness by elites in the the media, entertainment, and academia fields starts to foster resentment and inspire resistance after a certain point.
    So, taken on it's own, the concept of recasting old established comic book characters into more diverse characters now isn't something anyone would care about or be angered over. Normally. But these aren't normal times. When you feel like you're under attack from all directions, you start taking even the insignificant things like changing comic book characters a little more personally now when it too has become another drop in the ocean building up around you.
    Again, I hate to have to be "that guy" who said these things in his post, but if you're someone who truly doesn't understand why there's animosity over changing a characters' race, gender, or sexuality, this is the explanation. This is the view from the average White male comic book fan. This is that perspective.
