In the actual mythos of transformers, when they rebelled on cybertron, the ones who became decepticons were police/military robots while the ones who became autobots were all workers robots and things of the like. Thats why they take the form of non-combat stuff.
To be fair, the first transformers movie actually has some good scenes and a bit of soul. Now, that's only the first. It goes down hill from there quickly. Very quickly.

I was just about to post my own comment when I saw yours. I’m glad somebody knew the film since it’s considered a classic by many.
The Hitchcock film "Rear Window" was itself based on the short story "It Had to Be Murder" by Woolrich, which was itself based on the H.G. Wells story "Through A Window".
Bumblebee was such a breath of relief. Finally the pain is over. The characters actually *look* like their classic selves The Deceptions actually have *personality* The action isn't just pieces of scrap metal thrown at eachother. There's no random ass growling mumbling. They don't violently rip eachother to pieces. Etc.
I respect your opinion but personally i found the bumblebee movie underwhelming and the designs for the transformers are now bland and unappealing. I hope if they are to make a sequel, they will increase their budget and improve the cgi. The designs need major improvements.

The third gen(Example being a 1990 Camaro) was a visual downgrade too but at least they had some amount of sex appeal. I know a lot of people who disagree with me on these though.

To me, Bumblebee has about as much personality as Ironhide, which isnt much. I think characters like Jazz, Optimus, Megatron and Sentinel Prime have more personality. What I love is how the exterior paint is beat, but underhood, it's satin black, fresh paint and all chrome and such. I'd love a quality condition car that looks like a heap on the outside.
Thing is, Barricade is also the only Decepticon to survive all 5 films of Transformers and appear all shiny and new despite being beaten up by Bumblebee, getting shot in the head and even having his leg blown off. Plus he has been a Ford Mustang in every single one.

I would like to note that Hasbro had previously asked VW for licensing permission for toys, and they said no, so that probably played a role too. Also, the Mustang used was customised by Saleen, so the car is technically kinda a Saleen, not a Ford, which is how they bypassed needing a Ford license for the toys. However a couple years later, when new Barricade toys came out, they were licensed by both Saleen AND Ford. Weird.

When I heard the description of "Disturbia" I had to think about the movie "Rear window", by Alfred Hitchcock, where a guy with a brocken leg looks out of the window and think he has witnessed a murder. Great movie.

I hate how Bumblebee does not look like his G1 animated version. I liked the horns and gray face with semi-rectangle eyes. I didn't like the new movie but the designs were largely improved. The Michael Bay continuity still sucks. Where's Autobot city? They had that built in 2005. A better reboot is in order sometime, hopefully.
I hate how people complain about Bay not following G1 when he was not the first to deviate from it, and on top of that, the original didn't even match up with the original, so it was better just to do his own thing for the films.

The Bay movies were most people's first introduction to Transformers, people who have literally never heard/cared about the brand started off with the Bay movies. So a good first impression would've been nice. But instead it felt more like a parody of Transformers made by a guy who doesn't care about the brand. It makes sense for the shows to do something different, we already had years of G1 back in the 80's, so during the 90's they tried something new with "Beast Wars" and it was a fresh change of pace. People don't hate the Bay movies because "They're different", people hate them because they're bad.
