7:17 in s2 Mike had no problem with being more physical and touching Will's hand cuz he used to think of it as platonic cuz he was clueless back then while in s4 Mike can't do the same thing cuz he's aware of his feelings for Will and thinks of it as more than platonically which would also explain why their hugging scene was that awkward(because of Mike and his internalized homophobia and repressed feelings)
@deboracoelho9100 Exactly. That's why in the first 2 seasons when they were in middle school, Mike didn't really know how love really works. But by the end of season 3 when she and the Byers were moving away, he definitely started to realize something when she kissed him with his eyes open in front of Wills open closet. She told him she loved him too but he just stood there all confused. Also wanted to add, however in the first episode of season 4, he read her letter which she had said Will was painting for someone he likes " maybe it's for a girl ". So the second episode at the airport and the roller rink, Mike was jealous because he saw that painting at the airport then he heard about Angela. So in Mikes mind he was thinking Will liked this Angela because he didn't know El was being bullied until after she showed up at the roller rink.
I have two thoughts on this scene. 1. I believe that the couch was positioned like that so that it wouldn’t have a back, inclining both Will and Mike to lean forward, paralleling the scene they share close with each other in season 2, as well as the many heart to heart discussions they had throughout season 4. It also emphasizes the rays of light, which cover more of their bodies, but also focus in on their faces and expressions. 2. The sun coming through the window and creating deeper contrast of light and shadow remind me and could possibly be paralleling the scene in season 2 where Will is possessed and Mike is trying to get through to him by recalling how they met; a very emotional scene, where a great deal of new information is revealed, not only of the characters in the room with Will, but also the grip that the mind flayer (or maybe vecna) has on Will. Will’s face is completely covered in light, while Mike’s face is only half lit up. To compare with the couch scene, Will is once again receiving most of the light from the window, and Mike is seated in a place with less light. Not sure what this could symbolize, but I do believe there is a reason that Mike is almost completely obscured from the same light shining down onto Will.
2:24 with the light being symbolic of things topic, many people say that mike's face having a shadow/ being in darkness means he's still having mental turmoil or smth and you see how the light is shining directly on will but mike is in the darkness. idk if it means anything but I wanted to point it out.
5:43 Did you notice that the patch lit up on Will’s shoulder is the area which Mike grabs later in this scene? It’s like Mike is the source of light keeping Will away from the dark (like in Season 2)
I love that scene and the way Mike looks and smiles at him. Will is so open and emotional and then Mike calms Will down when it becomes sad. I think Mike still cares about Will but still can't figure him out and wondering what will happen when Will tells Mike he loves him
Great analysis on symbolism! There's def a lot more to these scenes than first meets the eye. I think in the context of the story, a reason for the couch being in a different place than when they left it but still messed up (upside down, as you put it), is because Jason and his squad trashed the place earlier in the season. In terms of the set design I think you're spot on that it was placed that way intentionally for the purpose of symbolism, but it's cool that there's a story excuse for it as well.
@@lesbianmindflayer Oh yea Jason and his friends hung out at Benny's Burgers, but I meant the scene when Lucas told Jason that he would lead them to Dustin, but actually led them to Hopper's cabin, in episode 3 iirc. I'm not 100% sure if it was Hopper's cabin though cause it was late at night, but as soon as they arrived, Lucas abandoned them there.
A year late, but to add to the theory that Byler will spend a lot of time in the UD. Beside the couch, there's a board game called Chutes and Ladders and on the box it says, "An exciting UP AND DOWN game for little people." Aaand there are also the most recent leaks online too. So, yeah!
Green light in film indicates corruption, sinister, and dangerous activities. Therefore wills nervous behavior is probably just indicating hes scared for whats about to go down
Byler is much more than a friendship, since it has been building since the first season (confirmed by Noah Schnapp) and I find it very strange that being 4 in the group of friends, show more interaction in both than with the others, I do not think they put Will's feelings towards Mike just because, Something stronger is going to happen with both of them, and Mike is going to let go of what he's been holding back for so long.
@@taylaclark7624we aren't sure of that but will is *VERY* interested in mike and we fans are hoping that mike will reciprocate the feelings. S5 next year will decide it all
I love your analyses so much!! although it makes me feel like I don't watch the show lmao the time you must spend on this!! I would love to see Will and Mike in the upside down, it reminded me how the light theory ? something like that, if I remember well someone that that the lights flickering in season 1 after Will leaves Mike's house could mean that in the upside down the olders version of them are in it and sharing a heart to heart moment or something (it's a waaaaay longer post but I don't remember it sorry) I hope they do something like this

Also in that shot where there's a big ray of light shining onto Will and Mike (but more so Will), if you look at the windows around them they seem to have like blue/yellow/green hues to them. To Mike's left, the window is blue and has blue around it so the light appears slightly blue, in the middle the light is slightly more yellow especially on the window just above Will's head, and then on Will's right the window (because of the woods outside) gives off a green hue
@@justpeachybaby5929Definitely not. In fact every couple besides stancy has formed in one season. There is definitely still time, especially with the rumors s5 episodes will be longer.
It's not weird, we're shipping them because they are tied together and understand each other, they have a stronger bond than any other which clearly shows more than just friendship. They have been building BYLER up since season 1, just like Jopper so it certainly wouldn't be too late.
It’s funny because Mike literally had to brace himself to say I love you.💀

Wait I thought it's more Mike is starting to work out Will loves him. So do we think Mike loves Will too I'm confused 🤔
Yeah I really hope Mike and Will are endgame and save the world TOGETHER.
Pretty sure it’s going to be a group effort with a focus on El and Will! At least that is what the show has been hinting at. 😊

Actually that’s not the same location. Jason and his crew were at the abandoned Benny’s Burgers from season 1! ☺️

Also in that shot where there's a big ray of light shining onto Will and Mike (but more so Will), if you look at the windows around them they seem to have like blue/yellow/green hues to them.
To Mike's left, the window is blue and has blue around it so the light appears slightly blue, in the middle the light is slightly more yellow especially on the window just above Will's head, and then on Will's right the window (because of the woods outside) gives off a green hue

the metaphor for that is "Turn upside down the closet"
