People wanted to make fun of him but they couldn’t…..he was simply such a talented singer and an extremely nice humble gentleman. We need more Slim Whitman’s.
It was not uncommon in the Fifties to have multiple artists hit with the same song, pretty much at the same time. And he was singing standards that had been performed since the 1920s.
I understand my daddy really loved his music.
I miss real late night talent like Johnny Carson. I saw Slim live in Laughlin in 1987. He and his son were fantastic.
Tremendous guy....really liked him from when I first heard him 70+ years ago....super interview with J Carson.

Slim saved the world from the Martians, bless his soul
Class act from the days talk shows were not crap like today.
Slim's decency and self-deprecating humour shine through his chat with Johhny Carson.
Thank you, Slim. You are handsome as ever and your singing is beautiful (I remember you).

Carson made fun of him then he finally invited him on his show.
Slim Whitman hit it out of the park.
They really looked like they were having a great time during the monologue.
I think people really made fun of the commercials production value...but his talent cut thru it
That song was a hit in the USA around the late 50s or early 60s. I don't recall the name of the singer but it wasn't Whitman.
Frank Ifield, he was British/Australian i think.
