    As a black man who grew up in a white town, and white neighborhoods I never really felt like I belonged. This song and beef showed me it's a choice to engage with it. Hip hop isn't the only way to connect with my blackness, no matter what I am black and I can/should always be proud of that and my people. People can and will unify and I want to be part of it. Thank you for explaining all this, I appreciate it.

    "I know what the cage bird sings" is a novel by Maya Angelou that "illustrates how strength of character and a love of literature can help one overcome racism and trauma. In it, she transforms from a victim of racism with an inferiority complex into a self-posessed dignified person capable of responding to prejudice. "

    • @jfongborden1
      @jfongborden1 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      🎯🎯
      The cage = racism, trauma, etc
      Bird = victim
      Even though the bird is still caged, just being able to see past its "cage" / current situation gives enough hope to sing. Basically, this has nothing to do with Maya Angelou lol!
      Instead, the owl (mysterious, dark eyed, nocturnal predator) is restrained / put in a cage when it comes face to face with K Dot. He's caging a nocturnal predator (F.A.N. / 69 god)😂

    Kendrick became one of the biggest employers because so many TH-camrs are making bank off everything since the beef. It’s truly remarkable the amount of people benefitting. From the music producers to Krumping to students, people really tuning in, analyzing with such interest, having dialogue. Kendrick was born for a time like this and his patience and delay in response so that he could strategize only the way he can shows how wise it is to wait, watch, plan , calculate and control your self before action is taken. A real leader moves this way, truly is a leader at heart and Gods hand was upon him from before this moment, but he proved himself ready for this day

    Just my opinion: The opening song line doesn't say "broccoli." It's "Woke up looking for the Barclay...IP ownership the Blueprint is by me...,"all referencing the Barclay Center, IP ownership and working with JayZ bringing the coasts together.
    So, Jay is by KDot. Jay was a huge part of re-opening the Barclay (where KDot would definitely perform if he came to NY during this cultural moment) and Kendrick owns his IP like Jay did once he bought his masters, including the Blueprint album.
    Not to mention KDot owns a beautiful waterfront condo in Brooklyn.
    The Kamasi part refers to the famous saxophonist Kamasi Washington who is the founding member of the collective West Coast Get Down. Double, triple entendres and more. 🔥🔥🔥

    • @Juana4ev
      @Juana4ev 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Yes I agree but I also believe Kendrick purposely combined and pronounced it that way as to cover both…
      In my mind, He was out stargazing (Kendrick wanted to study Astrology & Psychology in school before all this) and not around. Life gotta go on as for as this Rap career. In his spirit he knows he has to still do what he has to provide & set up his kids/legacy. He’s back here now from wherever he was (astral) projecting, Woke up, and first thing he is going to do is literally & figuratively smoke this joint (Broccoli); Reminding folks how he comes with the beats (west coast encoded. TPAB with Kamasi) and all his lyrical content is authentically from him & owns it just like you said with Jay-Z connections.
      Feel like this will be a Reincarnation of “Damn” album which was his peak commercially since he says it in the beginning. Using some of those beats DJ Mustard said he was constantly sending him. Cover this newfound interest of the upbeat bangers side of what he can do after “Not Like Us” success but still true to his roots and lyricism of whats going on and the culture. Wonder if all features will be just West Coast
      Could all be a reach 😂 but excited

Those who study numerology, consider 444 to be symbolic, ( gentle reminder or nudge from angels ) to give us clarity. I'm still learning. As I stated earlier, wisdom, peace, strength...and so on. Perhaps affirmation of being on the right path? Kendrick has always been that artist who uses symbolism in everything he does. I don't know, I could be wrong. Exactly!!! Whitney came through with the Nuketown kill shot from deep on some C.O.D. sniper type shit! Deeper than all that, I truly believe Drake envies Kendrick’s relationship with Whitney. If you go back to ‘So Far Gone’ that whole mixtape was essentially about being afraid of not being able to find true love. Listening to Drake’s verse on the remix to ‘Unthinkable’ with Alicia Keys, that verse echoes the same sentiments. Look at the video for ‘Falling Back’, this guy desires the family life and here comes Kendrick, a guy who Drake has ALWAYS thought himself to be better than in every aspect, having a high school sweetheart/fiancé and two young children both from the same woman. The whole battle was about Whitney. He tried to sew seeds of doubt about their union and it did not work. No matter how much money you have, you can’t replicate a loving family.

    I don't think the 5:55 reference was a stretch. One thing I noticed about Kendrick Lamar's videos is that his metaphors are multi-layered. I too noticed the length of the video, and thought it intentional. I interpreted the 5:55 from a numerology perspective.

    Drake fans want ppl to believe that he lost b/c of an imaginary 20v1. Meanwhile Ross said, "Pulitzer Prize winner switchin' up like dyed denim" was a direct shot toward Kendrick and guess what Kendrick did? Paid it DUST b/c Drake is his target! Simply put... it doesn't matter who is outside throwing rocks at your house when the person that's trying to take you out is already inside!

    The 5:55 is angel number for transformation and growth time.Also it's a sign he is stepping out his comfort zone.

    15:03 Drakes IG response to the part of the song really highlighted his disconnect from the rest of the culture. He could have picked from any one of the disses in Euphoria but decided to go with a scene from a teenage rom-com because that was the first association he made with the lines.

    The hopscotch scene..did you notice that he skipped the 6 box? If you know, ya know.

    Thank you for the dmx reference because I see so many ppl thinking it came from other references but the culture knew off top when we heard it on Euphoria

    Yeah, I noticed Kendrick see the bars but, the owl I’m guessing and “people behind Drake” can’t see the bars. They literally don’t know they can’t go anywhere from here. Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!

    One thing that people overlook with Kendrick is how well calculated, and thought out every move he makes is. Just goes to prove how he will always be regarded as one of the greats.

    The not like us music video just showed me how Kenny and Drake are entirely different . Drake in rap battle enters defensive mode when his opponent hits hard e.g i cant date a mimor coz i famous or if i would have dated one, i would have been already arrested.
    Whilw Kenny still uses the attacking mode when the opponent says something that can be used against him. e.g instead of saying that the kids are mine and there is nothing btwn Whitney and Dave free, he just had scenes in the music video do the actual talking lol🐐
    😂😂😂😂
