Interesting detail I noticed! When the frozen ship called the “Ray of Illumination” burnt down, the only letters that where left spelt out the word, “Rayllum” the name of the ship between Callum and Rayla!

The whole time I was watching it I was like the writers are probably laughing at our faces right now. But it was pretty funny.😂😂😂

Seasons 1-3 Rayllum was great, it felt so natural and just made sense. Season 4 was…awkward..but I actually am in the minority and didn’t hate that they’re..broken up. I adore Rayllum, but considering what happened in through the moon, I feel like they may have broken up even if she didn’t leave. Still..despite the awkwardness, I feel like it’s clear these characters still care a lot for each other. Season 5 is honestly much less awkward, and I love their dynamic and I feel season 6 can only expand on that.
I don’t at all think the ship is dead, but Rayla is going to have to apologize before things can move forward. They still clearly haven’t really talked things out, and that has to happen before they can truly move on. I really want to see these two develop more into a team that believes and trusts in each other’s strengths. I think Rayla before..might have taken Callum’s strengths for granted..but now she’s starting to see just how capable he truly is. Honestly I’d personally love if they made some parallels to season 3 when Callum is talking Rayla up, about how she’s a hero. Only this time it’d be Rayla saying those things about Callum.

I have to say, I've just gotten into your content and I've really enjoyed it? Your analysis is quite well thought out for the videos to which they pertain. Keep up the good work! Also, i think Rayllum could be very good, even great, but it didn't get enough time to fully develop.

I'm not a person who is really emotionally invested in ships to begin with. For lack of a better way to explain it I simply do not see romance as the main thing to invest myself when it comes to reading or watching a fantasy story.
However, the truth is that I cannot agree that this ship was ended because of a natural result in the development of the story of these two characters. I would be OK if it was, yet I still think it was more of a writting error than an intended flaw from the relationship itself.
To answer the question, "what makes this a solid relationship?" we'll have to look a the two of them separately when they first were introduced.
Callum had to learn how to make hard choices in order to protect Ezran. Those choices often came with self doubt about knowing what was really the right thing to do, since there were a lot of instances when making a choice meant that they would have to come with a cost. Rayla inspired him when he was looking his courage. She would take action and not hesitate to do what was right even when she was afraid. Her strenght was not only physical, since she would take all prejudice and judgement from her clan aside for the sake of the greater good. This in return gave him the courage to try to better himself as a mage and become a stronger person like the warrior he admired.
Rayla's first introduction was her fisrt attempt at killing an innocent guard. He would alert the kingdom of the coming of the shadow elves that were seeking revenge on Katolis, but Rayla couldn't fadom killing a person with fear in their eyes. THAT'S supposed to be her "flaw" as she saw it at the time. Later on she would again fail at killing Callum, but that decision this time allowed her to discover the egg of the dragon prince that was supposed to be dead. In their journey together she doubted her own feelings and flat out rejected the idea of her own empathy towards the "enemy". It was Callum who showed her a different option; a more optimistic view on life that didn't consider becoming an assasing, but a guardian like the parents she thought she hated.
Callum understood the part of her that she didn't want to see at first: She was brave but also kind: she was a hero that would not hesitate to do what was right. Rayla saw his wisdom and his determination. She saw him as the hope of their future.
Together they were the future of Xadia and the human kingdoms. Now they... Well. They are a frozen ship.
My efforts in writting this have been a rare thing, but I wanted to put my grain of salt into the wound that this show has made in us. I like stories that make sense. Rayllum was thematically relevant to the progression of the plot and it would have been interesting to see what kind of challenges the couple could've faced when they were confronted for being together by the elves and the rest of the kingdoms. What kind of struggles would they have had that would not involve them breaking up after a week in a spin off comic book? We most likely will never know, but the question has been at least answered. This ship was relevant and had more going on than just it's cute factor... When it was smart and well written. But hey, I hope season 6 resolves some of the remaining issues of the series...

I loved reading your take on this conversation!
I totally see what brought them together and how they were sources of inspiration for each other. Although I would argue that the one who actually validates her in taking a different path to begin with is actually Ezran.
He is the first to tell her that it was her strong sense of empathy that keeps her from being an assassin and he, for one, was grateful for it. She then receives extra confirmation from none other than Captain Villads who encourages her to look within if she doesn’t know what she wants to be. Callum naturally also comforts her after she has been ghosted from the Silvergrove and lists out all the reasons why she’s great but my point is to say that she actually comes to the conclusion that she doesn’t want to be an assasin after her conversations with Ezran and Villads which is BEFORE Callum’s encouragement in season 3.
THAT ASIDE! Absolutely! Seasons 1-3 Rayllum are great and have outstanding potential and chemistry BUT Through the Moon and Seasons 4 and 5 ARE cannon and I feel like this is where the relationship starts to falter and to me it feels like Rayla wants what she left behind 2 years ago without putting in any real effort. She hasn’t owned up to how she left him behind (at least while he’s awake and listening) and I don’t think it’s fair to overlook her dubious behavior where Callum kind of has to overcompensate for her actions.
So when I look at all of these things TOGETHER that’s when I start to feel like it makes sense that this ship doesn’t end up working out, at least in the long term. Because, again, they are actually sweeping a lot of things under the rug.
The argument that they had in Through the Moon is actually incredibly valid. I think that is a real argument that they would have as a couple. A real hurdle that they need to get over. They met because Rayla was on an assassin’s mission. Yes, she wasn’t wasn’t about that life BUT she didn’t come alone. Runnan, who is her surrogate father, killed Harrow who is in all but name Callum’s dad.
So I think the argument is real and that conversation needed to happen but when it came up, Rayla simply walks away and never apologizes for irrationally lashing out at him. On the other hand, Callum goes above and beyond to ensure the moon nexus is repaired so that she can have closure. And after he does all that, she deceives him by reassuring him that they can look for Viren together, she leaves in the middle of the night and doesn’t contact him for two years. Then she comes back and wants everything to be normal.
I don’t think that’s the foundation for a strong relationship. All in all, I do think Rayllum is salvageable but some difficult conversations actually need to be had.
LOL! I know that was a whole lot of thoughts. Shipping is also not my priority when watching shows. I’m here for the magic system above all. But… a little shipping is not beneath me. I’m 100% invested in where this is going lol. Anyway! I’m also looking forward to seeing what Season 6 will do. Sink or swim, I can’t wait!

@@AngelesLunamoth Your first response is correct. I blame my memory for not recalling some of the details about the show since I haven't watched it in a while.
I too believe that the argument behind the saparation is valid, and pretty much a solid fundation for the drama that started during season 4. That the whole conflict was sold outside of the main show as a spin off comic book that wasn't even fully explained during the following continuation of the show was shameless, but I do consider it "good" as a conecting episode of the series.
The main problem with the show right now is that the writers have mismanaged the conflict of these characters and stretched the story for far too long without adding enough events of significance for it to justify adding more substance to other things, like the romance and the mistery that is trying to push at the same time.
If you really think about it from the perspective of the editing, there have been many times that the show makes abrupt cuts between scenes. The story doesn't have much time to breath and in the end the characters that we care about don't have enough room for the conversations that matter to their story. It's a shame since the first three seasons had short scenes, but they had far less going on at the same time. That was good.
Well, my hopes for the next season is that they slow the f**k down in the pacing even if they have to delay whatever they have planned as their payoff of the season. Also yeah they need to start writting the difficult conversations that are needed for the ship to start working again, but honestly I think that also can apply for most of the writting department right now LOL

I just saw them! LOL! So much for distributing their weight on the lake yet walking consecutively in a straight line.
But on a more serious note, I really hope Netflix gets on the same wavelength with the crew working on the show. From what I understand they were withholding a release date from them and now the crew is putting out these teaser clips to hype up the season but Netflix is also doing it’s own thing… I don’t know how I feel about it. I feel like there should be some cooperation there for the sake of the show. My point is… I’m wary of the corporate overlords’ intentions.

@@AngelesLunamoth When you go on Netflix mobile, it looks like they removed the clips within a matter of hours after releasing them. I’m guessing that the crew might’ve reached out to them and told them to remove them. And at least they didn’t show any major spoilers, such as anything from the final three episodes.
Or worse. Imagine if they accidentally revealed whether Viren is alive or not, since the writers clearly want to keep that a secret until the release date, since we haven’t seen him in any of the marketing apart from that brief moment in the teaser that is obviously a flashback. And also anytime someone asks the creators if he’s alive, they don’t give a solid yes or no. So they clearly want to keep us guessing. And it would stink for Netflix to spoil that because there wasn’t clear communication.

Personally, I know people love shipping. But I would like to see more progress and focus on Ezran. I feel like there could be a lot more for him to do and be impactful to the story. Also I do feel like no one else realizes how crazy it is that he can talk to animals and seems to have a connection to nature despite being fully human(as far as we know). It will probably be something that Aaravos reveals. I would also be cool seeing him train or learn magic as well. His approach would be different from Callum, but it could lead to some cool reveals lore wise.

    • @AngelesLunamoth
      @AngelesLunamoth  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Absolutely! Ezran needs more screen time! I would also like an official reveal that he has been connecting to the Earth Primal all along. I believe it would fall under the category of druidic magic ‘relating to trees, plants, nature, animals and the like’ as is described in Callum’s Spellbook.
At the same time, I want to see more of him actually being king. From the trailers, we know that Anya will make an appearance so I’m hoping that it will be Ezran who rallies her to fight in Xadia. In season 3, we saw Opeli, Corvus and Barius meet with her in the credit sketches but she refused to go to war before, so what did they say that made her change her mind? (I mean, going against Viren is probably enough of a reason but I mean that they must’ve made a compelling argument to her and I wish we could’ve seen that)
All that is to say, Xadia will need fighting forces again this season and I want to see how Ezran manages to rally the other kingdoms (Or maybe just Duren) to his side.

I think beside the joke, the dialogue could referr to Callum's feelings about his biological father as he could have died on that ship, being a sailer...it even makes sense if you look at Callum's deep connection to the sky and ocean arcanum and so many instanves of his story being connected to ships, be it the time they escaped from the winter shelter on one, read the letter of Harrow, learnt from the captain about some of the sky arcanum's basis AND he learnt the one of the ocean on the ship of Finnegrin. For the frozen ship to be the place his father died in honestly would bring everything full circle. If not the Raylum ship could be an analogy for their downfall in the sense of how tehy will be setting Aaravos free tho unintentionally and how their love will mean the downfall of the world as tehy can't bring themselves to make this sacrigice, to choose the world over each other even if that will make them drown and sink deeper but by the circumnstances and the horrible consequences...unlike Claudia and Terry whose downfqll comes down to Claudia's perseverence to doing the worst things because of her blind trust and care for her father that became selfdestructive

    • @Tuvella1
      @Tuvella1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

considering the bigger picture: Claudia acted out of love just like Rayllum would in this scenario. her relationship to her father is clearly darker than Rayllum and she IS spiralling out of control, but the motivations are the same. one of the big themes of TDP is how love is beautiful and deeply human but it can also be destructive to the self and to others. it's the same thing w/ dif flavour

It's not just the fact that they're not a couple anymore. Callum and Rayla's dynamic isn't as interesting as it used to be; it's just awkward. The "ship" is too broken for me to care about at this point, I just want the story to be good.

I mean really how much do they have in common? All of Callum's parents are dead. Rayla's are still alive, mostly. Callum is good at magic. Rayla despite having a natrual Arcanum has done one spell. Rayla is good at swordplay. Callum is bad. Rayla is good at impressions. Callum's is stupid. Other than "doing good" they have nothing in common. They should just be friends.

I think it’s okay that they don’t have a lot in common. The fact that their personalities were so different is what allowed them to bring out the best in each other.
But after the events of through the moon, I don’t feel like things are the same between them. It isn’t the best that it didn’t happen on screen but it IS cannon so I want the conflict raised in that graphic novel to actually be addressed. And if not, the BARE MINIMUM is Rayla actually being held accountable for her actions. (And it is a list of things!)
I understand she struggles with communication and that is fair but… that’s where she needs to grow.
If she doesn’t actually apologize and change her behavior, then I feel like their relationship is mostly just Callum doing a lot of emotional labor to keep the peace in their dynamic and that doesn’t sit right with me.

@@stitchfire15 Hmmm…. I think forgive is a strong word lol. BUT I do think he will give him a second chance of sorts. Viren seems like he wants to be better and I do think Ezran would encourage that.
I don’t think that’s exactly the same as forgiveness since Viren has a history of usurpation (immediately after Harrow died and then once Ezran was on the throne) and then he attempted conquering Xadia. So I don’t think he could ever really be friendly with Viren. In that sense I don’t think he would forgive him. But I do think he could give him a chance to prove his improved character somehow? But I don’t know what that would look like to be honest.
So I think my answer is, ”It’s complicated” lol. I know that’s not super straight forward but that’s my take at the moment
