  • A full day in #willemstad #curaçao allowed @onacruise to check out this beautiful #!port!
After grabbing breakfast onboard #odysseyoftheseas we headed out to an excursion at #hatocaves. When we returned, we took a walking tour around the port area of Willemstad.
Willemstad, Curaçao, offers a vibrant mix of historical sites, colorful architecture, and natural beauty, making it an exciting cruise port destination. Here's a summary of the top things to see and do:
Willemstad Waterfront: Explore the iconic waterfront area of Willemstad, featuring the UNESCO-listed historic district of Punda and Otrobanda. Admire the pastel-colored Dutch colonial buildings lining the harbour, known as the "Handelskade," and cross the iconic Queen Emma Bridge, also called the "Swinging Old Lady."
Historic Sites: Visit Fort Amsterdam, built in the 17th century by the Dutch West India Company, which now houses government offices. Also, explore Fort Rif, a historical fortification with cannons and stunning views over the harbour.
Museum Kura Hulanda: Dive into the island's history and culture at the Museum Kura Hulanda, featuring exhibits on the transatlantic slave trade, African artifacts, and local history.
Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge: Walk across the floating Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge, a pedestrian bridge connecting Punda and Otrobanda, offering panoramic views of the city. We checked this out and it was very interesting and a convenient way to check out the additional areas.
Curacao Sea Aquarium: Discover the vibrant marine life of the Caribbean at the Curacao Sea Aquarium, home to a variety of sea creatures, including sharks, dolphins, and sea lions. Visitors can even participate in feeding sessions and swim with dolphins.
Beach Excursions: Enjoy the island's pristine beaches, such as Mambo Beach that we visited or Cas Abao Beach, offering opportunities for swimming, snorkeling, or simply relaxing on the sandy shores.
Willemstad Shopping: Indulge in shopping along the streets of Willemstad, where you can find local crafts, souvenirs, and duty-free goods, including the famous blue liqueur, Curacao.
Explore Christoffel National Park: For nature enthusiasts, embark on an excursion to Christoffel National Park, located on the western end of the island, offering hiking trails, stunning landscapes, and the chance to spot local wildlife, including the rare white-tailed deer.
Scuba Diving and Snorkeling: Dive into the crystal-clear waters surrounding Curaçao to discover vibrant coral reefs, underwater caves, and diverse marine life, making it a paradise for scuba diving and snorkeling enthusiasts.
