I completely agree. It is a breath of fresh air. I am glad we agree. This is the furthest thing from filler. It is a breather. The calm before the storm.
It's a setup episode. It NEEDS to exist. The Katzo one I don't remember in the manga(maybe in wn) but it's a setup to ease in to the GGC arc, and Pencil's is tied to what might be the final boss of the game. I just hope people won't call the entire GGC arc filler, it's basically the Marvel Rivals arc
I love the fact that the episode was mainly focused on Kei Uomi (Katzo) and Towa Amane (Arthur Pencilgon). It fleshes them out more as characters and highlights their personal goals. And it preaches something I have always said. SLF is not just about Rakuro Hizutome (Sunraku). The only part of the episode is the anime exclusive scene with the devs. Everything else is in the manga and is not filler. First off, Kei having a personal ambition to use Shangri-La Frontier as basically a prototype to Galaxia Heroes because he is a professional gamer is a genius move. Having him have self-doubts about defeating Wethermon, which I am sure she also shares, gives him a lot of individuality. And props to him for recovering 30 levels in just 3 days. The penalty for consuming Evil Force was nasty. Secondly, Arthur being so connected to Setsuna is really touching and it shows she has done some personal growth while retaining much of her original personality, though in a more benevolent and trolling capacity. It also displays how even though she is a model in real life, even those who are rich can have debt issues in-game. She spent so much in the Season 1 main fight, at least 100 million, when you consider the Reward Scales and the amount to buy the revival items, be it the Rebirth Tearjewels and/or the Lifestyde Salves, and having a 500 million mahni debt hurts. The Wethermon cameo was amazing. I love the Seven Colossi and Unique Monsters. And, speaking of Wethermon, seeing Utopia Software and the devs Ritsu Amachi (Executive Producer and Game Balancer), Sakai Tsukuyogi (Personal Relations and Spokesperson) and Tsukuyo Tsukuri (Utopia Founder and World Creative Administrator) was refreshing. I like the idea that the defeat of Lycagon's shade does not mean much in the grand scheme of things because Rounds 1 and 2 were just warmups, after all. Her calling it a prologue or a tutorial was fair. That said, the comedy of Round 2 having been rougher than it should have been was hilarious.
Certainly not in the manga but that sht is in the original Web Novel which the manga is directly adapting, literally every big scenario that Sanraku finish they show the devs side because Sanraku is breaking the game
"She lied as naturally as she breathed"... I am pretty sure this phrase was spoken first for Pencilgon. 😆 Also these game devs have a weird sense of beatable (prologue) boss.
@zam023 One option is that they have pretty stressfull carreers and need to vent a LOT. Other option is that one might heavily inspired by other (which is fine with me.
It's always fun to see when the trio IS a trio, not one main carrying the rest. They each have their uniqueness and their own hilarity. Also, seeing the devs raging at each other, it shows us the behind the scenes that keeps us coming back for more to see them get even mor eunhinged.
I really like how this episode show what Oikatzo and Arthur Pencilgon are doing when our MC is not around 😌 That poor weapons shop guy got scammed 😂 The game devs part was my favourite! That poor glasses man' stomach suffer so much with those two childish ladies 🤣
the devs did our gang dirty, giving the shadows buffs. this episode was fun. they wouldn't have showed us this epilogue to the weathermon fight if there wasn't something to glean from it. checkovs gun and such. good to see the devs again.
Bringing back Katzo and Pencilgon was nice, they have been out of the picture for a while. Also seeing the devs react to Lycagon's shadow getting beat was one I was looking forward too.
It’s only filler if the animation staff makes up their own story while the source material gets further ahead. This is in the source material and much like anything else people could try to call filler… it serves a purpose that comes up soon.
The main thing for the Weathermon fight was Sunraku's ability to counter. If he hadn't been there I don't think anyone else would have been able to beat him. Pencilgon would have been integral just for the simple fact that she was the only one who knew how to start it.
I've watched all of One Piece I KNOW what filler is.. this wasn't filler, more like catching up with the rest of the gang. probably before they link back up

Why arent we calling it by its real name and thats flashback/setup episode and I mean it in best way posibble since I enjoy it almost as much as sunraku stuff.
not filler but a necessary detour. i think i do recall most these scenes in the manga, just not back to back, they may have compiled these side story chapters into a single episode when it previously was more scattered, so pacing changes.
Not filler at all. This was a portal into the next arcs and it was a perfect pivot and setup. The developers part is spot on fishing out the overall story of discovering SLF while maintaining lots of mystery and intrigue on what to come next. A very fulfilling episode! Can’t get enough of this show!! 😃
Aren't fillers usually stuff nothing related to or advancing to story? This was both. Learning how pig tails lost 20 levels explains why they're not running around with sunraku.
anime community has used the term filler for literally everything it has lost all meaning imo i often see anything with downtime labelled filler and it drives me up the walls
@AHBrandonReviews well, I'm not in bed with the community, I've always seen fillers as things that can be removed and nothing of value is lost from the story. Theres good info in this episode and could be more relevant in future. I still think the show as a whole is just above average, still don't want to say itsna filler episode.
Srsly I hate people complains that a filler episode is up, bruh we haven't gotten a break almost 4 weeks of Lycaon fights every Sunday, let us take a breather before the hype and storm, let us digest and process, not being all black and blue balls, saying it should be Goku levels of nonstop, that's dumb. Also there are a lot of fillers in the manga, those anime watcher are fking closed minded
As much as I really did enjoy this episode, the fact of the matter is Sunraku got a headstart on the big bad wolf without them little do they know and from what I can tell may not be involved in the next big boss of the season. I feel like Sunraku as a character can just make anyone he hangs out with shine and not just Kazu and Pencilton and thats why we like him.
Many would call this episode filler, but I don't because we got to learn a little more about the supporting characters and why they started playing SLF. And that's what separates good filler from bad filler.
The upcoming arcs are going to pretty action packed so its nice to have an episode where everyone can take a breather Also it will get mentioned in soon but katzo is actually the best at pvp amongst the three of them
Pencilgon at one point contemplated that she hadn't planned on there being a player in the guild store. Was she expecting to pull off that deception on an NPC, or was plan A to just go in and straight-up steal everything she could carry?
i liked this weeks episode, lots of theory fodder and helps flush out the world. this tills me 2 things. first: we're about to see a everyone take a break to play this new game (a mini arche). second: theory: what ever monster Sunroku is chasing, someone will get trapped by it, Majora's Mask style (on a ghost ship or teleported to atlantis), but they have enough "in game time" to not worry so the main story can take a break
Some might complain that this as a filler(technically is) but it helps us understand how during the Lycagon Shadow fight sunraku is unable to recognize a pattern for each attack as new one is adding like more than one shadow, lycagon changing targets. So basically the admin girl is messing with it again. While also getting to know other characters more

I agree with you, but the ending of last weeks episode did suggest we were likely gonna get the start to the Ctarnidd story. Instead we just got updates on some of the main story characters. If they had made that ending for THIS episode it would have been way better. It just feels like why put that ending last week instead of this week if you aren't progressing the main story.
The attack holder and 2 marked players, the attack holder will be more recognized since Attack Holder is a title that can only be acquired by one player on the whole game(it can be taken by other players by surpassing said title holders record) other similar title holder are Defense Holder, Speed Holder and magic Holder
If the guy does have ulcer Chinese medicine won't work. It fact it can make it worse. The cause of ulcers is either infection or drugs that damage the stomach lining. He should really see a doctor. Maybe a therapist too.
Just like how they broke away and not shown the fight against the Usurper Dragin, you need episodes like this. A filler episode just fills in and has no impact of the ongoing story. This basically gives more information about the other two of the trio and it will be setting up a side arc that we will be seeing (not a spoiler if you pay attention to the opening and ending sequences).
The only thing I didn't like was the noticeable fall off in art quality and character design. They probably contracted with an outside studio for the episode. But the characters weren't ugly as in an American cartoon but they weren't pretty either and Pencilgon is supposed to be a model irl whose avatar looks like her real self.
It was ok. I was wondering what they were up to. There was a lot of lore background there. I was bummed when I realized we weren't getting Emul much. We got her karate chopping with her ears though so enough for me. I wouldn't call it filler. it was taking a breath and remind it of some lore. What is the truth of this world? then they end it with two programmers fighting.
I was let down the first watch with how much I was expecting to continue the story. I feel like the placing of this episode should of been after the next but I haven't read ahead. The thing that bother me most about this video was that they didn't recognize our main boy. He was apart of the party that defeated Wethermon and the first to get the mark. They even change a NPC reaction because of him. Not only that there was two Rare NPCs there with them so to just call him a marked one didn't sit right with me. So I liked the behind the scene stuff but I do believe they would react differently. Seeing the other gang was nice since we are so use to characters being treated as if they were in Dragonball Universe. I hope there is more development of the two side characters as they will need to catch up to help with future fights.
This is just a good transition episode. It is moving the story along, but the main character is just indisposed. It reminds me of the chapters of the lotr with the hunters going to Rohan while sam and frodo is going to the mountain.
i didnt like it... but i recognize its importance from a narrative point of view... the only characters whose drive's we have seen clearly before this episode were sunraku and psyger-00 that being challenging himself with something outside his comfort zone and trying to know sunraku better respectively, so its pretty nice to see the other's drives as well
On an unrelated topic, any interest on "welcome to japan elf-san". Nothing action packed, it leans more into slice of life/romance. The reason im suggesting this is because the world building is pretty good, nothing crazy or genius but it's pretty cozy.

It was funny to see Pencilgon ripping people off as well as her own motivations for playing the game and the character she attached to.

It's not a filler Episode...THAT episode and the NEXT episode are somehow connected to GGC & Ctarnid Arc. ( Manga and WN Readers know this ).

The essence of the show is the characters in the story's answer to the question why do you play games? Its in the manga chapter names even.

It's funny how she said that Lycagon's shadow is beatable, but I'm sure the list of people who actually beat it is super small.

Then be disappointed because we most likely only gett Ctarnid intro since, there's an arc in the middle of Ctarnid quest which Sanraku will be dragged

It can't be Filler if the episode was majority animated. Not that much of the run time was recycled scenes for me to view it as Filler.
