How to Make Ceramic Candles from Start to Finish

  • Here I will show you my whole process of making ceramic candles. I've never made handmade candles before, but making candles at home was surprisingly easy! I first threw clay cups on the potter's wheel, fired & glazed them, and then took them home to make my own DIY candles. Candle making is such a therapeutic hobby, and I think these ceramic candle vessels turned out so nice. I hope you enjoy!

    I would suggest wick stickers or hot glue to keep wick in proper location for a proper burn.

    Hi Mia, could you make these curvy candle holders with hand building as well? I do make my own candles, so this would be a great addition to the creative process. Thx

    For what it's with. Maybe you could make a liquid funnel when you're pouring in the wax. It will better protect you and the bench. :)

    Thank you so much for the video. Is this also possible by hand and without a kiln (but an oven, bbq or an garden fireplace? Im just starting with ceramics and don't have the sources to go all the way yet! Thank you 😊

    love it !! i want to do this when i become more advanced and established.
    i have a couple questions.. is that a home made white speckled glaze ? and what is your opinion on wiping the bottom as you do vs. waxing the bottom ?

    • @PotterytothePeople
      @PotterytothePeople  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Emily, I didn't make the glaze, but I purchased it from my local ceramic supplier (Carl Jäger). I always wipe the bottom. I find it easier, cheaper, and I don't like to work with wax. But either way works :)

    • @PotterytothePeople
      @PotterytothePeople  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't let it dry at all. It can go straight in :) I figure the heat from the kiln will dry it out.

    Flabbergasted is my only word🔥👏🏽I’m going to learn this for my business. Is it beneficial financially in terms of price for materials to make finished product vs just buying a ceramic vessel already made?

    Thank you so much for posting this video. Great Idea and really nice. I live in Canada and can't seem to get anyone to quote me on buying the clay, I think years ago it was $20. But firing and glaze no luck. I know you said we have to purchase the clay from the studio and for good reason. Could you just tell me your firing and glazing costs for one cup? Many Thanks again.

    • @PotterytothePeople
      @PotterytothePeople  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We charge 5€ per piece for both firings & glazing service. Our clay is 6€ for 2kg. Hope that helps!

  • @sarahmaschek9696
    @sarahmaschek9696 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Did you pre-heat the vessels before pouring the wax? Did it detach from the vessels when it cooled down? I tried pouring plant wax into ceramic vessels several times, but it always detaches itself from the vessels (no matter how warm the vessels).

    • @mariferreira5765
      @mariferreira5765 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sarah, did you solve this question? Because I have the same problem. All the candles I've been making are ruined. The wax just doesn't stick to the ceramic vessels.
      Do you already know how to fix it?

  • @BenG123
