Great collection of early phonographs. Now I know the true meaning of “put a sock in it”. 😂

You can buy one from Brian at the Athens Schoolhouse Antiques Show, usually the second weekend per month.

Very very good collection of the vintage phonographs a good experience of watching that as I am also an admirers of the vintage machines but I have only an HMV Monarch and model 163 which have a great value to me.
Thanking you for uploading the rare collection.

I once read in a HiFi magazine that the less there is between the source (vinyl) and the speaker, the better. In this case, the needle scratches through the grooves and is immediately converted into sound. The ideal way. You wonder why this way has been deviated from?

Is there anyway to get one of these that could play modern record

    • @MarkMphonoman

You could play a modern record, but you would ruin it after a few plays. The needles on the Disc phonographs used a very heavy, thick needle compared to the modern record player with very thin refined needles. Hope this answered your question. Mark

If you want them ruined…even 78s made past the year 1935 are a big no no. You could record modem music on a cylinder. Maybe you can get away with it with an acetate recorded 78. If you’re crazy enough like me to pay the price for a restoration of a disc recorder lol.

@@oldradiosnphonographs Not even those shellac records made after 1935? I’m sure a lot people were still using acoustic gramophones in the 30s and 40s.

You can play them, just use toothpicks so they don't ruin your records.

Can pot-metal parts be re-cast from new materials?
