Miyake - Crespi Taiko 2021

On Miyake Island, off the southern coast of Tokyo, a festival is held once a year. A single drum is carried around the active volcanic island, stopping to play for each village. The drum is set on the floor and played in a very low horizontal style. Today, the Tsumura family on Miyake island still teaches this style of drumming. It has since been made very popular by the Japanese taiko group KODO, and is arguably the most recognizable taiko piece across the world.
