I've never heard Khmer people around me casually use the word "Si" when talking about a person eating. It's not only considered terribly impolite, but stereotypically associated with savages or lower caste people such as enslaved people. My parents were strict Buddhists who went to the temple every week so almost all Khmer people we knew also went to the temple and are very reserved. Another thing is we never say "Yok" when we order or ask for something, we always say "Som". When we talk to someone older than us, we were taught to always respond with bhat/ja before or after: For example, "bhat, yok" or "Yok, bhat" And never have I heard them use the word "Oun" other than to their wives. To call someone younger than them "oun" is too casual and generally not considered proper. Another thing I find alarming is a lot of male TH-camrs in Cambodia will casually call a strange female "Srey Sat". Also considered improper behavior.
Your acts of random kindness is really awe inspiring…we all should follow your examples.
