Galatians 5:4, 2:21 both say that if righteousness can be obtained by performance of the law then Christ came in vain. The question is, Does it mean Christ's work on the cross was half done we have to help in paying financial dues in the form of tithes and offerings to be justified by God?
We should still pay tithe but it should go to the widows, orphans and strangers I.e. Vulnerable people. It's God's welfare system to protect the poor who "will always be with you ". One-tenth of the tithe should be given to the church to cover expenses and pay pastors. That's how I understand it.
If we agree ( which i don't) that tithe is fundamental. The historic method of tithing has always been in Kind, until the introduction of tithe commutation act of 1836 in the UK, which converted it to monetary form. So, even if Tithing is biblical, monetary form of Tithing is human and this has led to its corruption. and to those who will say we don't trade by barter hence we tithe with money, people did not trade by barter in Jesus time either or prior to 1836. Melckizidek did not demand any tithe from Abraham. It was given out of honour not an obligation. Also the tithe paid was not from Abraham's personal wealth. That is why he kept money out of the business of his sanctified LEVITES who were the only ones given the holy commission to receive tithes. Will all the LEVITES of Aaron's line collecting tithes now, please stand up and identify yourselves and trace your lineage back to LEVI and LEAH. By the way, whose tithing ORDER are you pastors following? It is neither that of Abraham nor the Levites. Forget about Jacob--- his tithes was a conditional offer he made to God. In Matthew 23:23, Jesus was teaching the Pharisees and the Scribes according to their own religious laws, which Jesus was very conversant with. Jesus in his time was not talking to Christians. Christianity had not started yet. Jesus was talking to those practicing Judaism who were still paying tithe to the levites. You are not saying the truth, in Mathew 23: 23 jesus was talking to Pharisees and not Christian , infact christianity didn’t start until the night before the death of Christ when he said this is the new convenant in my blood, Luke 22:20,Jesus didn’t come to cancel the law but to fulfill it, that why he said Pharisee should pay tithe, but after he fulfilled all the requirements of the law, the veil that separated God and man in the temple was torn, and we all have access to God and the New Testament was instituted, after that, no pastor on earth can show just one place in the bible where the disciples of Jesus collected tithe or command people to tithe.
