ENGLISH PHRASES FROM THIS LESSON:
- Every four years is when we have an election
- Senators are up for election
- There are two main parties (Democratic and Republican)
- It's the biggest election of our lifetime
- There is always a lot of hype
- There's more at stake
- They gave you the questions ahead of time
- Vote down the party line
- Left-wing vs right-wing
- Both parties want to put their side forward
- People who are more right-wing are conservative
- They want to tax the risk to fund public programs
- They talk about fewer taxes and more of a free market
- There's a push to repeal Obamacare
- In the U.S., you get insurance through your employer
- No one thought Trump had a chance of winning
- There was a debate two nights ago
- They were talking over each other
- It was hard to understand for native English speakers
- They ask people who they're going to vote for (polls)
- Biden has a lead over Trump
- She had won the popular vote
- Battleground states are important
- The news cycle is dominated by the election
- They bring on talking heads to analyze it
- Most of the ads are attack ads
- They have rallies and town hall meetings
- They put out their platform - what they're promising to do
- Early voting starts in a couple of weeks
- On election day, you go into a polling station and vote
- We call the election in favor of
- People have watch parties to watch the results coming in
- Swing states decide the election
- This election is very divisive
- The President is inaugurated in January
