Watson is portrayed rather nicely. H Marion Crawford looks the part too - handsome, thickset, lovely moustache, lion-hearted and absolutely loyal to Holmes! The stories themselves are very simple, not a patch on Sir Arthur's stories - but then NO Sherlock Holmes adaptations match the Master Storyteller's skills! Sadly, not much of a role for Mrs. Hudson in this series... I love Granada TV's remakes - the episodes are almost word-for-word reproduction of the short and long stories. Jeremy Brett as Holmes and both David Burke as well as Edward Hardwicke - as Dr. Watson - and Rosalie Williams as Mrs. Hudson - are all outstanding!
I thoroughly enjoyed this. I’ve never seen these two as SH and JW before. Only downside of the film was seeing how animals were cruelly used and exploited in circuses at that time. Thank you for sharing this little gem.
Borley Nun. Well to be fair this show is or rather was of the era of the 50s. Fresh out of world war 2, There was little to no source of entertainment other than stage plays and goofing out in the wild. There wasn't any Discovery channel to show us about Animal welfare and also knowledge about different species.Whem Circus came to existence including various wild and domestic animals, people found it amazing and curious to know more about them. And it wasn't an easy job to tame wild animals or an Elephant to showcase them to the public in proper way. So they had to be cruel to them as they were considered as less superior species than us. Again I'd say the year was 1955. Today at 2019 you can easily say that it is cruelty, cuz times and technology have changed and now we are all about protecting them as we should. We evolve our minds each and every day you must realize that. What's alright for today might be cruelty 50 years later.
Watson sure gets to do a lot of sleuthing and catching the crooks in this rendition. i love all the different interpretations of the Holmes stories. . . (Jeremy Brett was the best real Holmes ever though.)
Am I the only one who thinks the Clown looks like Sherlock Holmes? I tried to find out who that actor was, but no dice. Does anyone know? He did a great job!
I don't know if you will see this message, but incase you do... Thank you for sharing all these movies and older shows. I am sorry for what TH-cam has done recently to so many amazing channels. @@peterbaxter2913 Well, I don't know how it can be American voices when Ronald Howard [Holmes] and H. Marion Crawford [Watson] were both British - both were born, grew up in, and died in England. It's true the producer was American and many of the episodes weren't based on Doyle's stories [and were filmed in France rather than England], but there are English series which aren't either. -- But, I can understand, from a purist's viewpoint, that it wouldn't be your cup of tea.

So they'd searched that stretch of track thoroughly 3 times without luck and yet they'd missed finding the boy's hat in full view . And anyone who can find footprints in track ballast is more than a master detective. Still... a lot of fun
yeah - i went like "What?" i mean it wouldn't have taken much to hide it in some weeds or bushes, now would it :} and footprints on rocks LOL but you don't really care that much about that stuff - the show is so much fun. . .
I'm not yet sure how I feel about this particular Holmes portrayal, but nevertheless thank you for posting this! It'll be fun to watch yet another Sherlock series!
I've never seen Watson as a Buffoon. I've listened to the stories and there doesn't seem to be any place to suggest he would be anything less than a professional. Holmes had a unique intellect but that hardly made Watson an idiot. Holmes would hardly have associated with someone he couldn't have a decent conversation with. I'm not crazy about the casting of Watson but he could hold his own.
Good shit Sherlock - consistently good shit - especially the train travelling at the astonishing speed of 30 miles per hour.except when it was travelling at the breakneck speed of 5 miles per hour round up hill.
I have always loved the Sherlock Holmes movies, but I am very happy that they potray Watson, as a very intelligent friend and not as a fool.
I agree totally!
Yes yes yes! One can't imagine Sherlock forging a years-long friendship with Watson as the series with Nigel Bruce portrays him
H. Marion Crawford's Watson is both bumbling and irritating. Before Bruce, Watson was a bit player, Bruce made him central.

@@HJKelley47 Thank you! Thank you!! 😁
Totally agree I like the idea that this Watson was more than an assistant
Love the wallpaper on the train carriage - those were the days x
23:53 "Oh, confound it Holmes, why dwell on that?" Crawford was a great Dr. Watson.
Love this Sherlock Holmes🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
lol.... Love what Dr W did at the end to secure their holiday lololol
Super! The best Sherlock ever!
A great series.
thanks for uploading! great stuff.
Good episode. The Laughing Mummy is still the best.
Thank you 🤩🤩💖
Quel plaisir de retrouver de tels films un immense merci
Et porquoi? Le Francés est plus “wunderbar “ pour tout le monde
This and one step beyond,,plus lost in space,,keeps me young,,daily
Well done Watson! Superb timing.
So glad to have found this old series. A tad before my time dont you know. ;-)
Haha, yes, a tad, wink wink. Like me, a geezer from Illinois.
I liked Watson as more equal to Holmes - and somewhat buff! This series is great!!
Thank You these are always fun to watch😀
Watson is doing most of d work in this episode
Muito Bom! 💖👏👏👏Obrigada!🙏🇵🇹🙋♀️💚🍀
it's a great way to encourage love of clowns
I love the fact that Dr. Watson is not an idiot like with Basil Rathburn
" Come, Watson! The game's afoot!"
Watson sure gets to do a lot of sleuthing and catching the crooks in this rendition.
i love all the different interpretations of the Holmes stories. . . (Jeremy Brett was the
best real Holmes ever though.)
Rathbone rules !!!
Agree about Brett. These Howard ones were the best adaptation of these characters at the time, though. :)
If you see these guys anywhere run. Even going on holiday they run into some murder mystery
SPOILER: The station master at Manborough and Coco the Clown are played by the same actor (Billy Beck).
EXCELLENT🌟 FABOULOUS 🌟AWESOME 🌟
Am I the only one who thinks the Clown looks like Sherlock Holmes? I tried to find out who that actor was, but no dice. Does anyone know? He did a great job!
IMDB says it was Billy Beck, who also played the rather unimaginative station master
@@matthewsarno5601 thanks, you found out! Good info., and he had two roles.
Just an interesting fact, the H in H Marion Crawford stands for Howard. They altered his name because it was felt there were too many Howards!
Notice how Holmes let's Watson do all the dirty work! Watson is ...indispensable.
Lovely Roberta Haynes as Lydia Kendall , great English accent for a Texas gal ,
I don't know if you will see this message, but incase you do...
Thank you for sharing all these movies and older shows. I am sorry for what TH-cam has done recently to so many amazing channels. Have you all considered patreon? Maybe do a preview of each film on this channel and then upload the entire film on patreon. Maybe charge a few dollars a month. It would be well worth it in my opinion. I am sure many others feel the same and would support you all in your endeavors. Just a suggestion. Anyway, thanks again and take care. Good luck to you!
Más que fenomenal
“Watson, you’re a fool to take such a risk!”
-the man who was about to do the exact same thing
I LOVE British mysteries, and horror movies
British - BRITISH??? Everything about this rubbish has USA written all over it! Listen to the VOICES.
This was made in France in 1954, Mr. Baxter.
The principle character were both British, and so were their voices.@@peterbaxter2913
@@margaretd3710, Could you have a tea with me, with a scone or biscuit ! Your comment tells me, "purists" are nothing but snot -nosed bee bees that need a a good "spanking" now and then! 10-Q"
So they'd searched that stretch of track thoroughly 3 times without luck and yet they'd missed finding the boy's hat in full view . And anyone who can find footprints in track ballast is more than a master detective. Still... a lot of fun
Yes, I caught that too. I figured the nanny was in on it. One of those red herrings i suppose, eh wot?
yeah - i went like "What?" i mean it wouldn't have taken much to hide it in some weeds or bushes, now would it :} and footprints on rocks LOL but you don't really care that much about that stuff - the show is so much fun. . .
@Gregory Jones Oh!!! thanks :}
May be there was not enough light the first 3 times
@@pacchutubu I was thinking that too.
I'm not yet sure how I feel about this particular Holmes portrayal, but nevertheless thank you for posting this! It'll be fun to watch yet another Sherlock series!
Wonderful!
enjoyed. Thank you.
I felt so sad to see the lioness in the cage. 😢
Remind each other of youth...
Hhhhaaa wonderful ,, splendid and funny 🥰
The importance of going to school and why we should all be afraid of clowns.
How can you have footprints on rocks and stones on railway beds that sleepers sit in.
Musuc is so nice !
It never sounded like a great idea introducing the kid to Coco the Clown.
Superb production
I hate clowns. Always have. They hide evil behind their masks.
Have you seen "IT"? 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
👍👍👍💕 thank you‼️
Shurt and sweet!
"The problem of the boy who didn't want to go to school"
Isn't that like 70-80% of them?
True. Don't forget girls too! 😊😊😊
Poor animals 😪
Another great film thanks so much they can’t take your channel away what can we do to help?
Samuel Higgins 😄
Footprints on rocks............that Sherlock is amazing.
Nice
Very upset that the white mice were left to starve to death in that little box.
I’ll bet the father was more tender-hearted than he let on and had them taken care of - or let go, mice can take care of themselves.
I had such a crush on Watson🧐😍...
17:30 i thought, “wow how did SH get there so fast?? get in this disguise AND catch the culprit red handed !”
Not. 😂
21:10 Instant magic... XD
Back to the inkwell, Coco!
Love Dr Watson in this episode...
thanks again...pizza flix
Very nice
Tu canal tiene películas espectaculares, pero no tiene Sub titulos en español😭😭😭
Reminds me of paul bunon
Is that the young boy Eddie from the TV show The Munsters? 🤔
Its like watching a future kinda thing....weird.. he says things was much different when he was younger, i wonder how diff?? .. wht yr was this??
1897, per newspaper in another episode
Best "watshon"ever!!!!!!!!
Watching tigers and lions in cages and elephants being tortured makes one really angry. But I guess the sensibilities were different then.
Excellent
17:12 When obesity was considered a freak show in a circus...
Well, I guess back then, Amberlynn Reid would have been the greatest show on earth!
"Your job is to just stand there and be fat, for the entertainment of the audience."
And it still is
It still is who would not laugh at somebody being moved from a house with a forklift
Freeze Clowney!
I really like this Watson rather than the bumbling Indian other series. And Holmes is brilliant as usual.🙂
Ronald Howard was the son of the late, great Leslie Howard.
...and still is.
I love intelligence before i read😁
Jeremy Brett is still THE Sherlock Holmes.
