  • Are successful entrepreneurs just lucky or was it because of hard work? In this video I explore this question about what successful entrepreneurs attribute their success to, luck or hard work. Did they become successful because of luck or did they really work hard to become the successful entrepreneurs they are today? Which is it? Is the answer somewhere in between?
Well what better way to find out than by hearing directly from some of the worlds most successful entrepreneurs and getting their take on what they attribute their success to.
You'll hear a compilation of podcast interviews from founders of the following 8 companies:
    -Dell Computers
    -Stitch Fix
    -Shopify
    -FUBU
    -LARABAR
    -Lululemon Athletica
    -Khan Academy
    -Ring
These recordings come from the How I Built This podcast by Guy Raz at NPR.

It's better to have luck than skill. But, in almost all cases luck can't do all lifting. Skill is a fulcrum on which we leverage luck. If you don't have the skills, luck can't move much.
BTW, great thought provoking topic. Keep up the great videos.

Someone told me along time ago, "We create our own luck".

It’s luck but people forget that you can increase your chances of being lucky through sheer volume of output. Marketing, sales, content etc… luck is not as rare is we perceive it to be.

Attributing the building of a successful company to "mostly luck", which was unanimous, including the host....is ludicrous.
It means that those eight talented people don't understand a dynamic that they are employing, yet if we dig in, we would likely find it.
Luck is like the full moon. Even though the moon may appear quarter, half, waxing, waning, etc., THERE IS STILL A FULL MOON THERE.
It is just partially or mostly not illuminated at that moment. Yikes! Calling something we don't understand and which is outside of ourselves
'luck' is an ingredient of failure when it comes to business building. There is one word which summarizes a true actuator (not the only actuator)
for entrepreneurial creation. It is VISION.

You can visit the podcast yourself and listen to dozens of other founders saying the same thing. The consensus is what it is so why do so many of these successful founders saying the same thing? They all don’t understand the dynamic or maybe it’s not so “ludicrous” after all. Or, you view and understand luck differently.
