I think this game will be the big test to see how for real this team is. Can our offense continue to improve and can our defense still be as dominant with a higher quality opponent?
Not that I think the chargers are a terrible team but what’s makes them a “higher quality opponent” ? On paper, they have beat two similar teams as we have. Raiders and Panthers are the same as the Falcons and the Broncos (I’d argue that beating the Panthers is significantly easier than beating the Broncos). I think both teams have a test. Both will be graded on whether they can score on a good defense. Both will be scored on their QB play; can JF2 take the next step in his game? Can Herbert QB w/o playing Superman? The only thing I think we need to stop is thinking the chargers are the Chiefs or the Bills or the Niners. They’re not a bad team but they also aren’t world beaters. At least not in week 3.

They have a pretty solid running game and they presently have allowed the second fewest yards per game. I understand this includes a terrible opponent in Carolina but that doesn’t mean they’re not the toughest challenge the Steelers will face of their first 3 opponents.

In regards to the J1Q, did anyone else hear the interview with Gene Steratore where he dropped something I did not know? If the edge rusher uses a rip move (the one Harrison used to use almost exclusively and Watts favorite move) it isn't a hold by the rulebook? The rulebook states "a holding call won't be issued after a rip move unless the pass rusher gets past the offensive lineman or is impeded by the blocker while changing direction"

As I look at someone like TJ who is just an incredible athlete, does someone like him spotlight the fact that O lineman just don’t have the skills to handle these edge rushers? Is it their fault they are who they are? Maybe O lineman need to evolve to block these guys rather than eliminating the edge rushers. I just don’t think a player who has dedicated himself to being a dominate player should be penalized for it.
DK don’t take any offense to this, I personally love the show. But I have a 17 month old baby girl (Rylee) and the smooth radio voice you have puts her to sleep EVERYTIME. So much so that I decided to wait until nap time to tune in lol. Maybe consider children’s audio books as well. Keep up the EXCELLENT work I love the shows.

It’s got to be a good thing when the d line are stopping the run and sharing tackles. Frees up ur middle line backers to help with coverage. Teams with line backers absolutely high tackle numbers are teams struggling against the run. PQ ER and Wilson will make more splash as gel together.
I saw a film breakdown on Elliot and Jackson on what they add to the secondary but what struck out to me was Queen’s fluidity to carry and drop guys in coverage to force really tight windows. Him and Wilson’s asset over the middle can be Ham/Lambert like in the sense they can just take away the middle and raise hell cause everything is taken care of in front of them.
Yeah I just think it’s early and he’s gotta get used to this team and all that but I’m just happy we got two fast linebackers and the bruiser in Roberts. I like this linebacker group overall tho

I've been saying for a long time now, the Steelers consistently don't invest enough into DB's. They always just try to get by with mid round picks, and mid tier FA's. They hope their guys can do just enough till the pass rush gets there. Ask Brady if he liked that approach. I'm sure he did.
This is only a talking point because guys like Edmunds, Artie Burns, Sean Davis, Golson, didn't pan out to expectation. They've drafted them. You just can't do it every single year. It's been a while since we had a first round interior dlineman. Until Kahn it has been over a decade since we got a tackle. Needs and expectations for guys on the roster change every year. We traded Claypool to draft JPJ, we traded DJ to get... DJ. Lol. There is specific writing pertaining to the rip move that TJ uses most, that states that offensive lineman can in fact use that hook “hold” when the defender initiates a rip move. It looks really bad on TV and first glance but that’s how the rule is written.
I like Queen but..... All those missed tackles might be ok in Baltimore but not here. Otherwise he's pretty awesome. Gotta get that Buzzards smell off him though I think Wilson is playing just as well. Go Steelers!
I think hes doing an amazing job. I don't think its all about the numbers. He is leading the defense he makes the on the field adjustments and helps get guys in place. If the defense keeps doing what its doing he deserves plenty of praise.
