I stayed in Long Hostel, just off the main stretch of Bùi Viên, for 2 weeks. Clean as hell, packed with travelers every night, 12, 000 dong beers, dorm rooms for 4 dollars a night. Not a hotel, but it was an amazing place
Viola Hotel in front of Street Food Market, right in Centre of District 1 (29 Thu Khoa Huan, Ben Thanh Ward) is really good too.

If you want to go in the good hotel in HCMC, you should go to District 1, the center of HCMC!
There are alot of great hotel options in District 1

The 2 star hotel in Vietnam is way superior, cleaner, bigger, better furnished than $65 dollars/night Holiday Inn here in Canada.

Unfortnately, we haven't stayed there but it does seem like a nice place.
