I barely began kendo practice 2 days ago my footowork was so slow and my technique was horrible compared to the other students. This is a great video to help me practice thank you!
Great! And welcome to the kendo world! There are Playlists of the basics, for example, footwork videos in Kendo Basics II (th-cam.com/play/PLmdvM8fwuCxg165MaeTChmrWHJj4O77y_.html). Hope they are helpful for you to learn kendo!
Thanks for your comment and you're welcome, Ben Verringer! It's my pleasure!😄 I envy you! We cannot train yet here! PS...Please subscribe to my channel if you haven't! Thanks for your support! 🙏
Sensei Imafuji my name Anthony Cini. I have developed a love for kendo and have a had long love of samurai but i am currently unable to join a dojo. I have started training at home and i have taken your instruction to begin with ashi sabaki. i have wooden floors at home but i am still finding it difficult to get right. I was just wondering is there a certain type of floor used in a dojo? eg some sort of polish or wax or is it just i am not doing it right? I have followed your instructions to the letter and still having difficulties. My toes seem to grab the floor and prevent me from performing ashi sabaki properly. Your instruction/ Advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks for your comment and question! Once you get the hang of it, the floor types should not be an issue. Of course, you don't want to do kendo on concrete but as long as you are on wooden floor, varnished or not, you should be able to do ashi-sabaki on the floor. The key is that your toes should be touching but lifted only a little bit so you can feel the dust rolling between your toes and the floor. Hiro Imafuji Sensei thank you very much I will keep continuing training under your instruction. I plan on joining a solo next year as I would like to have trained prior to joining. Arigatōgozaimashita imafuji Sensei
Hiro Imafuji sensei. I hope that one day my kendo will take me to the U.S and I will meet you in person and sit in one of your classes. Thanks again sensei from Australia
Thank you for sharing your concern! It's great that you're aware of your body and its limitations. Talk to your teacher and what you can do if your toes don't bend much. But remember, it's always best to consult with a professional for any medical advice!
