It's called Kutch work.
I have a lot of childhood memories about my mom working on several designs of Kutch work....sometimes big mango designs with this filling, sometimes circles, diamonds, etc. with this stiching.
My mom did this work on her sarees and my frocks when I was a baby ( some even before I was born because she wanted a baby girl). My mom did a lot of Kutch work, stiching roses and smocking on my frocks.....very uncommon and rare skills in those days.
