She's matching the timbre of herself from ten years ago, and perfectly syncs with the lipped sections. That's very impressive. Still not up to her old standard, but DAMN what an improvement in a year. Who knows - maybe her high belts will come back. I doubt it, but if they do, I will shout praise from the rooftops.
She belted an F5 in this concert series so she's definitely gaining more fluidity in her upper register. And her voice was probably equally good last year for the Beacon.

im all for mariah, but the "powerful parts" sound lip synced. When the note goes up and down and what not, mariah's mouth stays in the same position and doesn't match what is playing. Also, the parts where she IS live, it sounds very low and the tone is a little wobbly.
I love Mariah. For me she is the best singer of all time. But we cannot deny that her voice changed and that's natural. We have to accept the truth and in this video is clear that the high parts are lipped. She has mastered her lipping and blends perfectly her singing with the pre recorded vocals, but if you listen closely you can hear the lipped parts. Mariah doesn't have to do this. There really is no win for Mariah. Even still being a better vocalist than a lot of the current artists out now, being a major influence in the music industry, and having outstanding success after 25 years of relevancy, people love to rip her to shreds for anything they can. If she sings 100% live, there's going to be a noticeable difference, as logically, voice changes with age. People will rip Mariah to shreds, and talk about how her voice isn't the same, and she "can't sing" anymore. Meanwhile, Aretha, Patti, Barbra, and Celine seem to still be respected, and billed as top notch singers, even though their voices have all noticeably deteriorated as well. Lord forbid Mariah has an off day...then her vocals get isolated, she's deemed as a poor singer, yadda yadda...yet Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Madonna, Lorde, etc., all have mediocre live vocals AT BEST, and somehow are generally praised for them.
