Quite a few more than 200 and stoner is only half a genre anyway. Between all the sludge, heavy psych, doom, etc... influences everyone has their own definition anyway. Relax indeed.

Greece has a great stoner rock scene, there are severeal band like 1000 mods that easily can come to this list like planet of zeus, nightstalker to name just a few, great list by the way!

I think Fu Manchu is the most boring stoner band ever together with Red Fang. Never understood them. Aaaah, another Acrimony fan, nice, Tumuli Shroomaroom was amazing.

All the guys in Kyuss were talented you can't have that much talent in one band at a time and stay together Homme , Bjorn, Garcia all Had different ideas look at the body of work all three have done all of it bad ass.......
I could be wrong,, but Personally I'd have kept Corosion of Conformity off because I feel like they're more sludgey than the other bands on this list. Also id have swaped out Kyuss for Sleep since I feel Kyuss best exemplifies that Palm Dezert scene where as Sleep are just like definitive stoner metal imo.
This was a damn fine list, no doubt ! I would maybe add Freedom Hawk - Thunderfoot. Honestly that whole (Holding on) album is a must listen kinda thing.

Agree whole-heartedly! Fu Manchu’s album “The Action is Go” is one of my absolute favorite “stoner rock” albums. Years ago, when I first saw that infamous pic on the cover of Tony Alva skating that backyard pool, I instantly thought “oh this should be great!”, and I was NOT disappointed. Been listening to it pretty regularly ever since!
Ozma/GPT was so far ahead of its time. I remember cranking that late80s/early90s. Just got the rerelease they did if it on vinyl. There are a few bands on here I don't consider "stoner", uncle acid definitely isn't (not that I don't like and listen to them) and neither is QotSA.
I hate the term "stoner rock". I have no interest in drugs but this stuff is both awesome to listen to and play on guitar. Implying you need drugs as well to like it just cheapens it. It's like saying you have a girlfriend who's prettiest when you're drunk. It's heavy riff rock, drugs have nothing to do with the actual music.
Gibson as a brand is "well suited" for this type of music? Even with the shorter scale lengths, tuning problems and fragile headstocks? Les Pauls, SG's, V's and Explorers are super popular with rock and metal but it would be laughable to call them "well-suited".
@@tomlang1005 after 30 years of collecting/ playing Gibson, along with many professional players, haven't had issues that exceed other brands. I've never dropped one and broke a headstock so that's a nonissue. Don't have tuning issues because I do a proper set up... Of my 58 guitars, my collection of Gibsons don't stand out with issues. I currently have American made BC Rich, Jackson guitars with 3 on a side tuners with the same tuning stability and the same pros and cons.

I am not a Gibson hater but a realist, every issue I listed is not an opinion but well known and proven. -Shorter scale lengths make it more difficult for down-tuning such as C-standard and B-standard used a lot in Doom and Stoner,,,, FACT. I have a LP in C-standard so I'm not saying it isn't possible, but it is not "well-suited". -Gibsons have fragile headstocks and are more common to break,,, FACT. It's happened to me and thousands of other people. I'm happy you have never had a break and that's awesome, but that does not make it a non-issue to everybody else. -The strings angle off of the nut effects the tuning stability and a proper set up helps to mitigate but not eliminate the Issue,,, FACT. You have two other guitars with the same problem? Yep, thanks for backing up my claim? Gibson is one of the most legendary and historic guitar brands in rock and roll, but that does not negate the fact they they are not necessarily well-suited to this style in many ways.
