      Do you usually stick to small items? I was thinking about possibly making a messenger bag for my husband. I've made a few bags and have incorporated art work but this will be my biggest project to date I'm pretty pumped!

      @@aleciabarrera9051 Quite honestly that might be the video next Tuesday. Not sure what size it will be, it may be just an ipad style smaller bag. But anything can be scaled up fairly well.

    Back packs, mini bag. Multi use bag shopping bag that expands on each end with lace n then fabric flap snaps inside bag....those are ideas. :0) grey and black bag with a dragon on the front flap.

    Getting back into leather crafting after learning about it in junior high school many moons ago. I love your no nonsense tutorials, designs and color variations. You remove the apprehension by making things happen with whatever tool you have. I am subscribing and looking to use some of your sketches. Now!     When you were drilling the antler for the toggle all I could think was "damn I hate drilling antler it STINKS!" Then you said it's easy and smelly and I almost cried laughing! 🤣 I was like oh good so it's not just me that finds the smell revolting, glad I'm not alone!

    Here's a challenge - a belt pouch to fit a digital camera into. A Canon PowerShot, to be exact. I'm making a set of dragon-scale armor (from craft foam) and need a pouch that wouldn't be out of keeping for my character to carry my camera, spare batteries & memory card in.

      For the left over leather from punching holes? Not sure.. I do make leather washers occasionally from larger ones if I need them.

    You solved the problem that has confounded me all this time in regards to bag pattern making. Make the gusset too long, that way the number of holes isn't relevant!

    Rivets do pop through the leather eventually due to wear and tear. I strongly suggest hand stitching for longer life.

      Feibings also makes a product called "Pro Resist" chemically it's very similar to resolene. But it's formulated to be a better resist.

    Thanks for the instruction. My first attempt at a gusseted pouch. I’m finding by the first curve my holes so are off by one. So I have to angle the needle to 45 degrees to reach the next one. Thinking of using 3.85 mm irons for the inside of curve and 4 mm on the outside? Maybe the difference in radius from outside compared to inside?

    So I actually bought your pattern and the tutorial was really helpful. Probably the best leatherwork I have pulled off so far. One thing I have noticed is that since I'm using hand shears to cut my leather due to a lack of a proper workshop and tool set, my items tend to end up slightly lopsided. The above pouch had to be trimmed slightly to close properly, and its still just a hair off. Tips for avoiding this?

      I just pour it right in, stay on top of cleaning it, I've left it a couple of times and it's a pain.

      Burnishing is smoothing the edges through friction and some kind of wax water or burnishing agent

    Can I ask why you use hole punches rather than chisels for your stiching holes?

      If I was making something with flat lace I'd use a chisel, any western type work etc. Nothing wrong with a chisel if you like how your stitches look through it.

    I just purchased the pattern. What are the recommended weights for the leather? No pattern ever seems to mention it.

      Should be on there. But if not probably 6 to 8 for the main body, 3ish soft for the gusset. Loops probably 6oz

      It really depends on the project. You need different lengths to go through different leather thicknesses. I'd just get a little assortment.

    What thicknesses did you use or am I just blind?

      6-8 for the body, 3 but soft for the gusset.
